We had the '59 Catalina Safari Wagon in aquamarine purchased new from Jernigan Pontiac on Boston Post Road. What a nostalgia trip for me. Thanks for sharing.

Really nice car. We have an original unrestored Canadian Pontiac Fleetleader Deluxe and love it. You truly travel back in time with an original unmodified car that has been maintained. Those late 50s cars are going to be the gems in the future. Cheers 🇨🇦

GSXHAD 33 I had a neighbor years ago who was a young guy. He had one of these. It was green. I LOVED THAT CAR! Ole Daryl was hard on it, but it held up and ran like a raped ape. I'll never forget how cool the dash lit up at night. I was a kid, never knew what motor he had in it, but it would really haul ass. This one your showing is awesome!

The Chrysler Torque Flite is the only automatic that can equal or better the acceleration of ANY manual transmission. And I am a grandpa, and proud of it.

The carpet seamed to glisten because of starlight motif. They were very futuristic cars for their time. All full size GM cars had the same basic design. The roof lines and windshields were the same. The trim, grill, and rear ends were different.

What a beautiful piece of rolling sculpture! One of my favorite cars. I just love the late 50's and early 60's cars. Thanks for wanting to preserve it, not "rod" it!

My grandfather bought a 1959 Starchief in the bronze exterior with that same color interior. He bought it in Denver and drove it to Kansas City Mo on old 36 highway and was running 120 when the highway patrol in Kansas Stopped him. 389-4brl carb. I rode in it once with grandad at the wheel and I saw the speedo pegged. Never will forget that car.

My grandmother had one left to her when grandpa died in 77. 11000 miles, it was red with a 389 2 bll carb. His pride and joy.

I just picked up a 59 389 420A motor. That was the top dog in 59. Tri power, cast iron headers the whole sha bang. Rated at 345 horse. All I need now is a 59 Cat or Bonny to put it in. Oh, and it's got a 3 speed manual behind it. That will most likely go.
@michaelbenardo56953 жыл бұрын
The 3 speed manual will give faster acceleration than the HydraMatic, providing you know how to shift your gears properly.
@wildbill56703 жыл бұрын
@@michaelbenardo5695 Kind of odd someone ordering that 345 horse motor with a 3 on the tree.
@michaelbenardo56953 жыл бұрын
@@wildbill5670 The original buyer was probably after maximum performance. The HydraMatic was good, one of the best, but still could not match the acceleration of a manual transmission.

@@michaelbenardo5695 I have to imagine speed shifts with 3 on the column were probably something that just didn't happen. I still thinks its a little odd that someone would order the top horse motor with that column manual operated transmisson.

I love those little stars on the side, so cool! It looks like they were done making it and when OOPS we forgot the most important part, where are the tail fins, go get some and stick them on. I bet it just glides so smoothly.

Great old Pontiac! Love these late 50's body styles, very space age. I have a "59" Ford Tudor Sedan that is a time capsule of this same Calibur. These great examples of American styling will always be timeless. Glad there are other folks out there like you that strive to retain these cars as they were with there full glory and integrity intact! Hat's off to you my friend!! 👍😁

Those aren’t “factory” seat covers. They were either installed by the dealer who sold the car new or more likely by a car upholstery shop as was common in those days.

I don't think you can get today's Chargers with a 4 speed, unfortunately. Only a 6 speed that locks out 2nd and 3rd gears unless you floor it.
