I think you'll get more satisfaction by allocating each fund as it's completed. The reason is that you can then start new savings challenges. Keep in mind you can always combine funds later.

Yes! Sorry to confuse you, but I explained in previous videos and didn’t want to bore people by being repetitive😀: As soon as ANY of my envelopes reach $500, I put a “placeholder” in the envelope and deposit the $500 into a savings account at my bank that is named the exact same name on the envelope. Yes, I have lots of savings accounts! If/when any of these same envelopes reach $1,000, I will switch out the $500 placeholder for a $1,000 placeholder and deposit that next $500 in the bank. Does that make sense? Great question, and thanks for asking it and for watching 💗

I am new to this as well and I am torn on the same thing with my savings challenges. My OCD wants me to finish them all and then allocate, but then part of me says to allocate them as I finish them… Also, some that I’m saving for need to be spent before I finish the challenge which kinda kills me but that’s what I saved them for in the first place. Like I have a back to school savings challenge for my kids that I’ll likely need to use before the challenge is complete or my family fun challenge since it’s summer we are trying to go have fun with that money already 😅 I’m pushing myself to be flexible and learned from another budgeter that it’s ok to reallocate what we saved. It keeps us motivated to save and sometimes priorities change.

Thank you so much for this lengthy reply, Danielle! I totally feel you on this one. I’m OCD too, but working on being a bit flexible. I have an idea that you might like or hate, lol. Why don’t you have 2 savings challenge binders or at least separate the ones you have set aside for specific/time sensitive things that you’ll need to use FROM the ones that aren’t ear marked for anything specific. Then you won’t feel bad taking out the ones you need as you finish them-it won’t feel like you are having a setback from that binder or make the binder feel incomplete thus you lose motivation. Instead, in the binder with ones you need to use, you will feel more successful the thinner the binder is…because when the binder is empty, you have finished your goal to fill all those! Hope this makes sense. You’re doing great! 🦋🦋💕🦋🦋
