I recently re-purchased my very first DSLR as well. The original Canon Digital Rebel (300D). The second I put it in my hands, oh boy did it take me back. Side note, picked it up from KEH as well!

Really enjoyed this video. I used my Nikon D90 from 2008 until sometime last year when I gifted it to my sister. When the Z7 came out, I decided it was time for an upgrade but ended up returning it because without pixel peeping, I couldn't tell which file came from which camera when editing in Lightroom. Being a hobbyist and for what I used the camera for (mostly portrait work) I decided to spend my money on glass instead.

Not a slight at all to this video or the Nikon N60, but I've been so surprised by the resurgence of early DLSRs, especially the very low megapixel digicams. It just goes to show that there's room for everyone---and for every camera---in photography!

I'm not. Just got my first DSLR, a Canon 5D Mark I for $250. Shot film the past 5 years, and with everything going up, it will be cheaper to buy older DSLRs instead o film/development. Older DSLRs are the closet "Film" look you can get without shooting film. That plus Lightroom, no can really tell the difference when looking at your pics on IG.

The D60 was also my first dslr... Bought it for myself after my family gave me some money for my... 13 birthday. Was really excited. Made the mistake of going for the Tamron 18-200 because more zoomy zoomy. Later used the 18-55 from Nikon on the D90 to scan film - it can be really sharp, especially on the longer end. THe d60 is really good on colours.

After being away from photography for many years I got back in acquiring some old but classic cameras. My main DSLR is the Nikon D700 (2008) and mirrorrless is the Fujifilm X100T (2014). I have no desire to upgrade since I have yet to leverage fully what these cameras have to offer. Great video!

For starters it was film and a Asahi Pentax K1000 with a 50mm for a class in black and white photograpy and development. Then a NIkon F100 with a 28-200mm D. For Digital it was a Nikon D70 and then a D90 and now D750 and for some reason a Leica D-Lux (Type 109) that was intened to be used for pics from work travels. Loved them all expect for the D-Lux.

love it, I started on a similar path with skateboarding and old film cameras handed down to me, my dad saw my interest and helped me get my first DSLR - a Nikon D70. I was so so grateful for that camera and everything it taught me, and sometimes I look and chuckle at how cheap they are now. like you said though - it's all a matter of perspective. if that D70 was the only camera i had right now, i'd still be grateful to have that camera versus none at all.

Ten megapixels? Why, I remember when that was unheard of. This was the domain of $40k medium format! A bit later, my camera of choice was a Canon 1D2 with a whopping 8 mpx. This was a APS-H sensor crop so mated w a 28mm f/1.8 I was shooting w an effective FL of 35-ish. With that lens, I took that camera EVERYWHERE for years. I’ve had photos taken on that camera printed to 16x24 and displayed at an artist gallery to some acclaim. Even to this day, my camera of choice is the Leica M9M Monochrom, with a whopping 18 mpx. Would I like more, maybe, but can’t justify the expense, esp as I no longer shoot professionally. For me, the moral of the story is that a good photographer can use any camera to their advantage, esp if you can shoot in manual mode and save in raw.

I still have my first DSLR, the Sony A100. It has a very nice CCD sensor (the same as the Nikon D200) and it's still a fun camera to shoot with and low ISO CCD colors are pretty sweet. You can couple that with DxO DeepPrime noise reduction and SuperResolution and it's still VERY capable.

We had the same first DSLR! Got my D60 for my 21st birthday in 2008 (showing my age) after I'd gotten into shooting film with my Dad's old Olympus OM2n. I remember the excitement and freedom this camera gave me just to shoot anything and everything and seeing the results right away, like you said, it was a game changer. 10 megapixels may sound like a joke today but it really was impressive back in 2008. I remember being stunned by the image quality compared to what I'd been used to seeing from my little Nikon point and shoot. Loved my D60. Still got it tucked away in my camera dry box but I haven't shot it in years. Maybe it's time. Thanks for sharing and hope to hear more about your freshly picked up Nikon D60.

So last year I got myself a Lumix LX1, a 'premium' compact camera from 2005. Paid something like $25. The intention was to get a 28mm equiv focal length without spending much. It's slow, AF is barely accurate enough, screen is terrible, only supports SD cards up to 2 GB (which are a pain to find), RAW format is weird .raw, and it's basically unusable at anything other than base ISO of 80. But. It's fun to shoot with and it can produce nice pictures. That old CCD sensor certainly helps with color and I guess Leica lens helps with sharpness. Most of the time I just set it at 5.6 and well... point and shoot. Would be even better if it had a 4x3 sensor instead of 16x9.

I got myself a Nikon d80 a year ago, and I love the file size, with a 32gb card I get 2.7K shots, which is insane. I really like the dslr form factor and I'm currently using it with older primes AFD lenses. Very nice camera, and super affordable.

My first camera was a Canon A1 now I have two and shoot them both. Usually I carry one with b&w and the other with color film. I also have 2 F1n bodies and carry as a pair. I have 2 F5 bodies and carry as a pair. I only have 1 D810 and I use all my Nikon lenses on my film and digital Nikon bodies. I share all my Canon lenses between my Canon bodies. I've had the Canon bodies for about 40 years and it always feel like I'm having breakfast with an old friend when I shoot with them.

Bought a Nikon d200 a while back with a tokina 12-24/4 for about 50 dollars. Steal of the century and the images an old ccd sensor produces is just different than current sensors. I’m not buying the film aesthetic some people say it looks like but the pictures that come out look good still.

The D70 was my introduction to digital and autofocus. I'd had a string of Minoltas, starting with Dad's SRT-102 (which my daughter still has and uses), my grandfather's Hi-Matic E (which I still have), XG-1, XG-M, XD-5, and finally X-700. Eventually, I moved to digital/autofocus in one jump, which is when I got the D-70. Then D-200 and D-750 before jumping ship to Fujifilm with the X100V (my Hi-Matic made modern) X-T3, and now X-T5. The X-T3 was wonderful, but I needed the image stabilization of the X-T5 for my old man shakiness... Thanks for doing what you're doing. I really enjoy it!

So nice. I have found a lot of pleasure from old DLSR and digicams. I regularly use a Nikon D70 and a Minolta Dynax 5D, and I have a lot of other vintage digital cameras, that I find pleasure in using - not instead of film, but rather as a supplement to shooting film. This week I carry an Olympus Mju 400 Digital and a Canon G2 in my bag, when I go to work - not that I get to use them every day, but they are there, and I do keep my eye out for subjects. The best thing about old Nikon DSLRs is, they might be made mostly from plastic, but they are sturdy (not to say "built like a tank"), making it a good first camera for kids to try out photography. And, if it does break at some point, it's cheap to replace.

Strongly recommend older Nikons! The 6/10mp nikon sensors were something special. I’d skip the 12: it has a digital “crunch” that’s neither nostalgic or pleasant!

A great photographer will take great photo's with a beer can with a sheet of film inside and a pin hole in the front. Would they do well shooting race cars at a circuit? Sure, they just wouldn't shoot moving cars, they would adapt to the strengths of the equipment they have. Same goes for any camera; understand the limitations of the equipment and then go take great photo's. If you can't, then the limitations are yours.

I still have this camera with paired with sometimes the 24, the 50 or 85 mm... It is small obviously but really fun to use and for family moment it gives some beautiful photo... As I live in New Caledonia, sunny Island, I stay at 100 ISO and ND filter and colors are marvelous. I never sold it. And I always have the Nikon d700 (really heavy compared to the d60), and the Nikon D750. And a find myself reaching for the d60 to keep the things simple, liberating and less heavy.
