Outstanding and informative !! I thoroughly enjoyed this video and Tonya is a wonderful teacher. She explains it to where you can understand and as a student, I don’t need to ask more questions to understand the reasons they do this or that. I think Tonya needs a channel of her own so that more people could learn and possibly respect the magnificent 🐝 bees and how much this world needs them, and how much they need protection to flourish. So awesome 👏👏👏 Well done ‼️‼️🥰😄😄❤️💕❤️💕💚💚💚

Bees are such an interesting creature. My late father in law had bees for 2 or 3 years for his huge garden near Kansas City Ks. When it was hot, they would search for water & fan the hive to keep it cool. I had a couple of drops of water on my leg one afternoon when we were sitting outside & the kids were playing in the water in his yard & a bee landed on my leg & sucked the water up! It was so facinating! We all learned not to swat at the bees & usually they stayed away from us but it was hot & we had a lot of water & they came to get the water. He always kept a lot containers of water in the yard in the summer. He had a huge backyard.

Try your local library for whatever books they have on beekeeping. My late Dad was introduced to beekeeping & never looked back. My Mom got him any & all sorts of books on the subject (any excuse to keep him home as his first passion was deepsea fishing & he did not swim. She was petrified he'd drown out at sea.) Besides our backyard he had hives all over including on a mountaintop farm (wildflower honey, bluegum/eucalyptus also from pine trees).

Eventually we found a local chap who supplied schools with loads of beehives and he agreed to put a hive in our back garden.It’s just wonderful watching them being so busy.The great thing is that he comes and looks after everything about them and kindly gives us a few jars when he harvests the honey.!! My father was a beekeeper, so this brought back many memories for me. He taught us to stay still and remain calm when a bee was buzzing us. If you start swatting and get excited, they will sting. I never swat any stinging insects. Just close your eyes and relax until they fly away. Of course, if your being attacked by a colony, run! Lol!
@lorenrobertson8039 Жыл бұрын
Good memories and good advice Kim! I remember having so many bees around the wild honeysuckle that us kids would also be sipping from. I was fascinated by the bees and wanted to befriend them...I was always into bugs! I didn't get stung often by bees, but those mean bees that were different in the persimmon tree when us kids would climb and eat persimmons would sting us. They were like large sweat bees. Probably a wasp of some kind. didn't keep us away! Oh what a wonderful time I had growing up back before all the world seems to have changed for the worse. I'm a 60's child.
@kimsellers1470 Жыл бұрын
@@lorenrobertson8039 I'm a 60's child as well. We loved climbing the apple trees, but always got in trouble for doing it. Lol!
@socalbeeremovalandrelocation Жыл бұрын
That is a very true statement. That's exactly what I tell people. You might not get stung if you remain calm. But you forsure absolutely will get stung if you start swatting. You have to overcome the natural instinct to swat and panic.
@ms7953 Жыл бұрын
50's and 60's kid here, too🙂! I lose patience VERY quickly with adults that unhinge when any just flying/buzzing/humming insect comes near them, and MORE so when adults don't help their children to do exactly what you said-to stay still and remain calm and wait 'til it leaves. I understand this is a behavior learned likely from family, and maybe because my parents were the WWII generation, and not much alarmed them, the first time a bee landed on me (and maybe it was fear that froze me), but it was a revelation to just share a few moments in time with this little creature. There was, of course, times I understood avoidance was a good strategy also. The Queen Anne's Lace vine my mother adored was always given w-i-d-e berth from me when riding my trike. Thank you Brooke for this video!

Isnt it amazing when you watch something like just a little bee, and realize what an awesome thing that God has created. How special and intricate even the smallest of his creations are. Look at how perfect the hives they make are and how hard and harmoniously they work together. God has created ALL things in the world to work together in harmony…we all depend on each other. God wants us all to work together (and root for each other) just like nature itself does. Thanks so much to Tonya for doing this video with you…what a great teacher she is. Very knowledgable.
