I noticed somebody mentioned using a pressure washer, not a good idea as it's easy to knock out wheel bearings by washing the grease out of them ! Also you don't want one anywhere near your air filter intake or electrical connectors !

Hello Charlie, (as all are spelling it) hope it's right. The picture is my husband who is a master technician, we have Himalayans along with other road bikes so understand the differences .. along with the biggest for shorter legs not being able to put your feet down, that was me UNTIL... he lowered it for me using a 20 mm kit from Hitchcocks which gave me more confidence in using the bike for its intended purpose which was to handle the back roads exploring. I find that most people trying to show you how to ride are usually ones that can put their feet down so dont understand what its like when you cant! The hwy speed was sorted with a one tooth larger front sprocket and bingo 110km plus, really sweet. We love what these bikes allow us to do so simply without fuss, once you get it right you will enjoy yourself Charlie, another tip is soft panniers make a lot of difference too, personal choice there. My other bike weighs 300kg I have flat feet down with that and have always handled it so it makes a big difference. All the best Charlie we admire you🤩
@restdayrider2 жыл бұрын
Maybe I'll have a look at that, I definitely think that would help confidence. 😊
@3ducatis2 жыл бұрын
The other thing that helped before it was lowered and still adds to the solution was a pair of Daytona gtx lady star boots, they have a platform inner sole that gives you more height without showing it on the outside of the boot, for both men and women. A bit pricey but worth the investment especially when you check out the video at Daytona on how they are made, they are true to euro size and have a nice wide toe box for good comfort. Anyway just thought I would mention it as our bike issues seem to be similar 😉 cheers Mikka
@ukbiker16312 жыл бұрын
The downside to lowering the bike is that it reduces ground clearance - which is already the himalayans weak spot compared to other small adventure bikes. Great if you only use it on back roads/gravel track but not so great on the deeply rutted rough tracks that we find here.
@kenbrooks77942 жыл бұрын
Looked like a cracking day out on the plain, a bit of a baptism of fire, this time of year if the lanes aren't slippery with mud, they're slippery with ice! The crashes will get less and less frequent as you develop a 'feel' for what your bike's doing underneath you. Don't grip the bars too tightly (imagine you've got a handful of butterflies) and look well ahead and not immediately in front of you. We'll done, you did really well! 👏 🙂

The great thing about these drops is that is is really only the pride that gets hurt or bent. The biggest tip I can give you for offroad riding is in the trickier stuff you need to go as fast as possible to go as slow as possible if that makes sense to you. Second tip is ruts can be your friend, it is very easy to slide into them and not so easy to slide out of them this makes paddling a great way to stay upright. Good on Geoff for his coaching of a newbie. Listen to you breathing in this then compare it to your breathing when you are in the sluipery stuff going to your very secret camping spot. You REALLY have improved yor riding

17:36 What a treat to wake up to on Saturday morning. I ve been out on my mountain bike twice this week in the hoar frost on frozen ground. Done 30 miles each day and had several “offs” icy ruts being the main reason. Sunny and pretty as hell. Looks a great place to ride on mcycle. Thanks for taking us along with you. Your shrieks of laughter reveal your pleasure. You can buy specific mountain bike pressure washers that won’t ruin your mcycle as they are much lower pressure and work fantastic with muc off and snow foams that cling to the crud and dissolve it running off the bike. I use mine on my pushbikes and motorcycle. I clean the chain with paraffin and paint brush. Done in minutes compared to other expensive stuff. Also kind to o rings in chain. Also treating bike in acf 50 or more frequently gt 85 will stop stuff sticking to the bike. If you do use pressure washer just don’t direct it at bearings /electrics/ brakes and always at an angle so the force is not too much and more of a soaking effort. Let it soak in muc off or snow foam before you rinse. I have also bought a bike drier which I think is a great tool in this country. Really love your channel very diverse content. Congratulations really taking off

You'll be surprised what a huge difference a more appropriate set of tyres will make, they'll make it much, much, easier and give you bags more confidence. I'd also advise getting a decent set of handguards (Acerbics or Barkbusters) to protect your levers and hands. Keep on mudplugging!👍

That looked like whole lot of fun. And hey falling down is part of it. If you don’t get muddy and parts on your bike get broke or bent, then you didn’t have fun. I don’t know if they got do it yourself car washes over there in England, but that’s where you need to clean Roger up. With a power washer. Putting him in the house brought back memories for me. I used to put my Harley Panhead in the kitchen of a rental house we had. My wife had to help pull it in thru the kitchen door every time I rode it. And especially when the landlady came for the rent she had to push it out Quick. 😜

Hi Charlie, thank you for sharing your tour with us. unfortunately we don't have such wonderful opportunities for motorcyclists here in germany, everything is regulated and forbidden. I love your English homeland, just a few months ago we were back on the south coast (albeit in a motorhome). We also drove through the Salisbury plains. Would you please tell me where are those wonderful and allowed trails that you both rode on motorbikes? Many thanks and a wonderful Christmas season to you from Erich and Beate (she works in the emergency room of a hospital)

Most of Salisbury plain is accessible, you just have to keep an eye on the signs that tell you if there is no public access, and look out for RED flags, they indicate there is active training going on and a no-go area. 😊

Well done to getting thro' that intro Charlie but if I were you I would look for ADV Training ground where you can learn what to do in certain circumstances before you go out on the trails. What I mean by that is; your balance, position (forward or back), when to stand or sit, grip on the bars, feet position. Then there's practising control at slow speeds,clutch control, tight turns, up/down gradients, not to mention riding on diferent surfaces; gravel, stoney, sandy and muddy. This is though all done best on your own bike so look for a 'school' that does Adventure Training courses, and not what you just did, which I would call "follow my leader". Oh and as others have said, better tyres eg, Mitas EO7+ (also gives decent mileage). Good luck, looking forward to your next vid.

Hi, that was unfortunate. I’ve done the same on my Himalayan on a mountain in Wales. Rocky road, about 1 in 5. The thing that saved damage to my bike and me was having engine bars fitted. Mine were RE original. I did bend them because they are only two point fitting. I would recommend fitting the Givi three point fitting, which I am now doing. I would fit them to your Himalayan.
