Great job young lady. Reminded me of my first pelagic. You are a natural with the camera. One thing: watch having the music volume so much louder then your voice. I had to keep turning it up and down. Keep it up.

Thanks so much!! Yeah, I'm very aware of the issues with the volume... this was before I learned how to adjust the volume when editing, but thanks for the tip.

Not had the opportunity yet to take a pelagic trip, though it’s definitely on my bucket list. In the meantime, I absolutely love, love, LOVE your videos. The birds, of course; the exotic destinations; and your alluring personality. Thanks SO much! And please keep them (all of the above) coming, Emma! :)

@@emmakoutdoors Absolutely. Perhaps our paths will be fortunate enough to cross somewhere here in NJ one day. I’m heading down to a favorite birding locale later this month, Edwin B. Forsythe NWR. No doubt you’re already familiar with that one.

Really enjoyed your video Emma, it felt as if I was there with you. You've inspired me to go on a pelagic, I'm hopefully moving to the Yorkshire coast soon (England) where they run trips so fingers crossed.

Incredible video! I'm still currently on the look out for Black legged kittiwake, northern fulmar, and Audubon shearwater myself. As a fellow NJ resident, I highly recommend looking into the Cape May Whale Watch's pelagic tours. You can see so many scoters and eiders with them this time of year as well as phalaropes and jaegers if you're lucky too! If you don't mind me asking, what pelagic tour company was this one in the video? I had no idea that there were pelagic tours out of Point Pleasant. I live much closer to Point than I do Cape May so it would be much easier for me instead of the 80 mile drive south lol

Thanks so much! I've heard of those trips! Definitely planning on going on one of those at some point in the future - pelagic birding is so fun! I went out with Paulagics, here's their website: paulagics.com I highly recommend going out with them - they do some really awesome trips! I have friends who've gone on 18 and 32 hour trip summer trips with them and said they were awesome too. Good birding!!

Cool video, I love pelagic birding too :-) I’ve just had a quick look at a screenshot of the Iceland Gull. The darkish tips to some of the primaries made me wonder if it might the Kumlien’s Gull race / sub-species...(?) Do you know if that is the usual sub-species off NJ? M
@emmakoutdoors
@emmakoutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks - pelagic birding is so fun! Kumlien's is the more common sub-species of Iceland Gull in NJ, as opposed to Thayer's. There was some debate as to which this was. The consensus seemed to be a some-what dark Kumlien's.

Thanks Emma, that’s interesting:-) In Britain at least 95% of the Iceland Gulls we get are of the white wing tipped nominate form. I’ve seen a couple of Kumlien’s Gulls in Britain. There have been about 6 Thayer’s Gulls in Britain, though I didn’t see any of them. The taxonomy is rather complicated and messy isn’t it when it comes to Kumlien’s and Thayer’s... M
