If I went to a German speaking program I think the same thing would happen to me. I was in an English speaking program so I only learned German for a few hours every week sadly for my first year :/ speaking is the way to fluency for sure ^^

The Russian grammar might've helped her to understand the german grammar, because I know that in Russian there are 6 cases, while in german 4. So she was probably used to that kind of "system" when it comes to inflection.

@@baldacini yes, we have 6 of them, but they work differently. Russian doesn't have articles at all and it's a pain to understand the way germans or britons use them (i still put them randomly). So: German cases change through articles. Russian cases change through the ending of a word.

Ich glaube, ich habe genau das Problem mit Englisch xD Ich verstehe es beim Lesen und Hören, aber beim Sprechen tu ich mir schwer. Aber mein größtes Problem ist, dass ich gerne hypothetische Sätze bilde (also zB. wäre das passiert hätte, sollte, müsste as gemacht worden sein). Also abgeschlossene Vergangenheit (?) Und das kann ich nicht mal auf Deutsch richtig.... Also mache ich es mir selbst vermutlich auch nicht gerade leicht :D

Its been 11 months sonce i rechead B1 in german. And last month i did C1 exam. I am planning to do my masters in Norway not in germany. So i can learn norwegian as well😊😊😊 i like languages andas i said its all about translation for me and imagining dialogs with myself

Here's an explanation to translating "in case I missed something" (just because I myself find explanations really helpful): If you look up "to miss", it's usually translated as "vermissen". Maybe even "verfehlen/verpassen". But mostly "vermissen". But in German there are many different meanings for the one word that's available in English: to miss. It depends on the context. So in your context, "I'm sorry if I missed something"- you said "Entschuldigung falls ich etwas vermisst habe" or something like that. More correct would've been: "Entschuldigung, falls ich etwas vergessen/ausgelassen habe." (vergessen as in forgot, ausgelassen as in left out) Because "vermissen" means that something/somebody is missing from you. You long for a person or thing. You can also miss a feeling. It's an emotional statement that is always related to the feelings of the person who "misses". Ich vermisse den Sommer - I miss summer, I feel like I want summer back. Just to make my list complete: to miss as in "verfehlen/verpassen": that's when you miss a chance, a train, or a shot. I think verpassen is more connected to time, to just not make it (and it kind of suggest that it was not clear in the beginning that you wouldn't make it). While "verfehlen" is when you don't hit a physical thing mostly. "Das Ziel verfehlen" - to miss the target. I hope this helps some of those who read this comment 💕

'To miss' is not 'vermissen' at each time. 'If you miss something' is translated as 'wenn noch etwas fehlt', so 'if something is missing'. The verb 'vermissen' is mostly used like 'to miss somebody'. XOXO 😉

I started learning German on 2016, quitted after 2 years of learning. Forgetting every thing I’ve learned (except nummer, monat, uhr, personalpronomen, ein paar verben, etc) I started again on January 2021, It is June 2021 now, and I’m almost on the B1 level. I know for sure, if i didn’t quit, i’d be able to speak German fluently by now. Quitting on 2018 was my biggest regret. Guys, don’t ever take your time for granted.

Tolle Entwicklung! Das muss man schon sagen, wenn Du nicht kontinuierlich im Alltag von Deutsch umgeben bist. Noch scheinst Du in englische Gedankenart zu formulieren, aber das wird sich ändern, sobald Du mit deutschen Ausdrücken und Vokabular besser gewappnet bist. Als ich Deutsch lernte brauchte ich ähnlich viel Zeit, so an die 2 Jahre, bis ich einigermaßen das was ich hörte eine Zuordnung geben und darauf eingehen konnte. Jetzt lebe ich in UK und spreche oft mit Freunden (in HH übrigens) da mir die deutsche Sprache fehlt. Ich verlerne die deutsche Denkweise leicht; komme aber idR da wieder rein. Ich lebte 21 Jahr in Deutschland und Hamburg wurde mein Zuhause. Definitiv die schönste Stadt der Welt. ;) Trotzdem ist die Zeit die ich nun in UK verbringe eine Erfahrung, da ich ursprünglich hierher stamme, jedoch nur im Kindesalter hier gelebt habe. Was mir beim Deutschlernen viel geholfen hat war Zeitung lesen und Nachrichten hören. Auch sind Hörbücher gut, zB TKKG, da unkompliziert und sauber ausgedrückt. Drücke Dir die Daumen das Du noch weiter so Fortschritt machst. 👍

Amazing. Well, I study for myself, no teachers. So speaking practice is lacking. But my comment about vocabulary learning. IMHO it is easier, faster and better to begin to read some simple books in desired language, and not use flashcards. That way you remember the word as it supposed to be in sentence, with all its grammatical forms. I read and listen to German for 2 months already, but no speaking. And just yesterday I encountered an old lady on a bus stop, who happened to be German. So I talked to her. I understand everything she told, but my speech obviously wasn't fluent, but decent enough.

Dein Deutsch ist echt viel besser, und zwar in den letzten Monaten hast du es schon sehr gut gelungen. Ich habe in 1990 erst mit Deutsch angefangen, und kann fuer mich selbst sagen, dass ich die grammatische Grundlage in A und B Stunden viel gebraucht habe. Nach vielen Jahren wenn ich seit lange kein Deutsch gesprochen habe kann ich die Sprache wieder beherrschen weil ich diese Grundlage immer noch habe. Ja, eigene Woerter fehlen mir am Anfang wenn ich Deutsch taeglich benutzen muss, aber das kommt schell wieder wegen meiner Arbeit in den ersten Jahren als ich Austauschstudent gewesen war.

Echt sportlich in zwei Jahren, da die deutsche Sprache doch wesentlich komplexer ist als Englisch. Lustiger Weise war ich in der Schule immer besser in Englisch als in Deutsch, aber ich glaube das ist auch Lehrer bezogen. Ich bin im englischen irgendwo zwischen C1 und C2, aber die niederländische Sprache reizt mich momentan mehr. Die Niederlande sind nunmal meine direkten Nachbarn. Die Sprachentwicklung vom Deutschen zum Englischen lässt sich hier im Umkreis gut beobachten, es gibt hier ca. sechs verschiedene Dialekte im Umkreis von 50 km und mehrere Lautverschiebungen 'das/dat' 'ich/ik' und das niederländische g. Innerhalb eines Wortes wie z.B. in 'Gogh' (gesprochen wie der Ort Goch). Bei Endung mit g wie in 'Jong' ist es wie im deutschen 'Jung' oder im englischen 'young'.

Meine Muttersprache ist indonesisch und eins meiner größen Probleme beim Deutschsprechen ist, dass ich immer noch mit indonesischer Betonung spreche, da ich in Indonesien wohne und die deutsche Sprache nicht regelmäßig höre. It also depends on your native tongue. As a Dutch (Flemish) speaker, I went from A1 to c1 in 2 years because of the similarities between Dutch and German. English is also still pretty close to German (English - anglo-Saxon - saxony, Saxony is still a province/land in Germany) But if you start from a non-germanic language, it's a lot harder.

Me too, but for even longer. It's definitely because I kept stopping and starting so many times over the years. I kept repeating beginner material until I started taking classes. Consistency and finding a tutor would have helped so much.

2:11 Der Text ist falsch, man benutzt bei "seit" im Deutschen den Präsens, "seit du in Deutschland lebst". The English construction ("present perfect") is one of the hardest things to learn for a German native speaker.

You made a big progress in 2 years! Congrats. Yes, it’s damn hard to learn German. There are so many rules and especially the grammar! But keeping talking. 🙂 One point I want to tell: the under title in the clip (purple color) and the translation (white color) were in the same line. I guess you noticed it too. It wasn’t that easy / good to read both. 🙃

Sometimes it helps if you try to think in German for 1 to 2 hours a day. This saves you the hassle of translating in your head.

That was a great video. I’m really struggling to learn how to speak German. I have tried for nearly 5 years. I am 57. I’m told it’s because I’m so old, that I won’t be able to understand a new language? I will persevere though 😀

There is no age limit to learn a new language. If you are already able to speak more than one language, it’ll be a bit easier though. If German is your first foreign language it can be challenging, but with effort and work you can always make it
