Hey Mark, this stuff happens in the UK too. I had a BMW Z4. J4 UKP. Private plate. In 2010, I let a "mate" look after it while I went on holiday. I came back to find the car gone. He said he left it with a mate in Hull with a garage. This proved to be a lie. Unfortunately, I left the V5 in the glove box. I reported the car stolen, but the police and DVLA said the car had a new owner and it was all legal. Nothing I could do. I went to 3 different police stations and to BMW who sold it, they all said nothing they can do. Tried to trace the cars whereabouts, but failed. They obviously forged my signature on the V5 and sold it. I'm out of pocket 10,000. It put me in serious financial trouble and caused stress for both my wife and myself and my parents (who have since died). To this day I think of this. How could it happen in the UK? It was my pride and joy. As luck would have it, I now live in Thailand and have seen examples of much of what you report.

13:25 What's the point in insurance if you can't can't make a claim, without losing cover of the rest of your fleet? UK car insurance constantly surprises me with it's incompetence.
@lemster1012 ай бұрын
It's the same in the US. SuperspeedersRob that has a rental company in NY or NJ I believe and talks about it in some of his videos. I don't remember the exact details, but I believe it's that you need insurance as a company, but because of the risk for an exotic car rental company is so high, premiums are really high. To keep those costs somewhat manageable the owners of the rental companies choose to take on a level of risk themselves as a claim would mean the premiums would go up to where it no longer makes sense to run the company. So you can make a claim, but it effectively kills the business so business owners take "smaller" claims on the chin. Basically the same thing people do when they don't go through insurance for small fender benders.

Mark, you and your team post such a variety and very informative videos on the automotive world. Whether it’s about theft, insurance, racing each other in 💩 boxes or Supercars, scammers, gumball, supercar buying trials and tribulations, even trying to hit every Maccas in the UK in a time frame. The editing is top notch, how is everyone not subscribe how are you not the biggest automotive channel in the UK 🤯

Some people buy a boat worth 1 to 2 million pounds, rent it out, and after 1 to 2 years, they essentially have a free boat. I think there was a case where a yacht was stolen, but it was found, and the criminals were in prison within 2 months. Justice was swift and decisive in that case. I wonder why cars don't receive the same swift justice?

Why did the tracker say it was in Heathrow until you contacted the tracking company? Then they tell you it's in Thailand. Are they in on it? There's more to investigate here for sure.
@arniearnie39632 ай бұрын
Exactly what I was thinking. The tracker company has a lot questions to answer.
@Y_Pree2 ай бұрын
Don't quote me on this, but quite possibly especially back in them days, trackers would use a sim to update its location, once it was out of range aka up in the sky it didn't register its movement since there was no signal, and the company more than likely didn't pay for roaming charges up until they were notified to do a check because something was off and they had no luck finding thr vehicle at Heathrow, one would presume
@ratgreen2 ай бұрын
@@Y_Pree That makes sense. I was thinking they might have just had 2 trackers hidden in the car.
@greggodfrey65162 ай бұрын
you missed some key info bud.. they waited a week later to contact the company.. also the company who tracks things for a living is gonna have an easier time to find things, than an app would especially back in 2016.. heathrow & the coresponding shipping companies better have changed the requirements to ship vehicles after 35 were shipped illegally
@caledoniantours2202 ай бұрын
Should have been geofencing on the tracker. It seems they did not do due diligence on the hirer. What is the point of insurance if you can't claim?

tbh with the amount of thivery going on in the UK I begin to understand why the UAE have such harsh punishments for it and why they have such little of it as a result, it is absolutely infuriating there should be beyond harsh consequences they would learn not to do it then.

Absolutely spot on the wisdom and purpose behind punishment in Sharia law is to make people afraid of carrying out the crime because there is nothing worth stealing to lose your own hand over

I’m just confused if the car tracker was showing it was at Heathrow airport and it wasn’t there. How did it end up in Thailand and somehow the tracker suddenly manages to track the car to Thailand?
@greg33662 ай бұрын
Multiple trackers it seems as they called a different company- bit weird though
@R1249018 күн бұрын
The way a lot of these tracker work is they use SIM card and “ping” its location every now and then and also when you check it will update so it pinged at Heathrow and then went on to the plane where there wouldn’t be any SIM reception so it would show the last place it pinged. Then when they called up the tracker company, they will have paid worldwide roaming charges and the tracker would regain connection to ping its location

@@MarkMcCann64 its so people click the profile and then click the links on said profile. Most are just there to catch people out most likely running phishing viruses to get personal information. Also it will effect your channel in the long run but you cant really do much about it. The way it affects you is it creates a false sense of engagement and it plays havoc with the algorithm so your videos may get pushed to people that wont watch them or are just spam bot accounts so views can drop off happens a lot on Instagram as well
