The problem your having with your solar charger attached to your phone is simple, never attach a solar charger directly to your phone. Attach you solar charger to a battery bank, then use the battery bank to charge your phone. The reason for this is, your solar charger does not provide constant energy, which causes your phone to turn on and off. A battery bank does not have that problem, it will suck up whatever energy is given to it, without turning on or off. I hope this helps.

Paul, you beat me to it. I was going to add the exact same comment. If you happen to upgrade your battery pack, grab a solar one. They can be had in as small as 10k and are a little longer then the one you have. Admittedly the built in may not keep up with your needs but they do work. Most run about 300mah in capacity per panel. With judicious use you can certainly extend the use before it runs out. Also, as said, use the portable solar panel to charge the battery not the individual devices. Let's you make better use of the pair, especially if your battery pack supports simultaneous charging input and out.

Man, I love commentary to start off. I have always said that same thing, there really is only .0000001% that can go out with a bottle and butter knife. I look to how much time is spent going and gathering sticks and rocks, then creating lashings from the stick and potentially needing to do some quick work to make an edge on the rock, so on and so forth. Push comes to shove, I'll take gear that is smartly packed for weight distribution.

That Sweedish camo , is actually quite effective . One thing I would reccomend to anybody for a food item , is 3-4 packets of Emergen C . Its not for colds , its a powderd multi supplement . That does two things for you . Its a powder , so it helps keep you stay hydrated when you mix it up . The other thing is that because its a powder , its already broken down , so it gets into your system quickly , without elements getting wasted in digestion . Plus it makes water more interesting . Herbal teas are good for that also . real teas will dry you out . Makes you drink more readily , when your trapped in , by cold rain .

Outstanding video. Outstanding kit. 👍🏼👍🏼 I have been making long term “survival” bags as a hobby since 1983. Back then we just called it camping 😉 The choices of gear has exploded in the last ten years or so. I like all your gear choices. Compartmentalizing the five C’s is the way to go. I also follow the P.A.C.E. philosophy. Primary Alternate Contingency Extra I may pack a bit heavier than some others would, but I’m used to it.

I agree. Any real bugout scenario would need a pack mule sort of strategy, unless of course the person involved has a super reliable destination for resupply/refuge. So yes, a very heavy pack is the only realistic way to maximize our chance of long term viability. Do you opt for a stash of sealed garden seed? Some come in cans with enough to start an actual vegetable garden? Another strategy is to carry bags of wheat/oat/rye seeds, Assorted beans, etc, that can double as starters for actual agriculture. Eat some, plant some.

Totally agree, I try to learn as much as I can, knowledge is key, but why not have the damn gear just to make it that much easier. Especially for hunting and food gathering. Shelter and carrying water. Screw going bare bones. This aint a pissing match its survival.

For long duration low weight shelf stable food: 1 pound Pecans (or Walnuts) will give you 3000 calories, mostly protein & fat, shelf stable, no cook food. 1 pound long grain rice + 1 pound Lentils + salt will give you 1 meal a day for 8 days. Single meal Lentils & Rice = Pre-soak 1/4 cup lentils for 2 hours then combine drained lentils + 1/4 cup rice + 1 cup water + 1/2 tsp salt, boil 5 minutes, lower heat and simmer 20 minutes. Pre-soaking Lentils allows Lentils & Rice to cook in same pot at the same time.

wife and i have 20+ years back packing . our packs have same items as a BOB . dont carry a hatchet , pliers grappling hook . have packets of peanut butter . pack 2-3 meals dont need to be cooked . dont like propane stove can leak dont know how full they are . we use fuel tabs or sticks of wood . ultimate bag close

Curious: being out in the woods [building fires, chopping wood, rustling through leaves and brush, etc] leaves you wide open for attack/theft. Anyone can drone search acres and acres in minutes looking for 'opportunities'. Wouldn't a hand saw be stealthier than an axe? Wouldn't a small crow bar and some lock picking tools provide more defendable locations options and more potential supplies? Power banks and small solar rechargers take forever to recharge ... is it better to invest in a more powerful solar system? Is there not value to have a small radio for news/weather/morale/etc? Caffeine/sugar for energy? I know its just individual preference ...

Asking lots of good questions. Some of which are answered by the mission scope. If you are on the run, then different factors such as stealth and related tools must be determined. Maybe you don't start any fires, don't cut any wood and leave no trace. The Baofeng has full FM/AM capability + Weather channels and so forth. In my med kit I have caff pills and related stims.

I grew up with a Dad who lived part time at home but mostly in the Penitentiary (he was thief, embezzler, and he murdered more than a few people in his days). The rare times he was home he loved to take us camping and fishing, so he had a solid background there too. What I want to mention specifically in his, what we would call EDC kit today, kit he carried a couple of plain old hacksaw blades instead of bolt cutters--he would wrap duct tape around one end to form a handle and use the blade to cut through fence, locks, rebar--anything metal in his way. Light weight, easy to use, and worked fine every time.

My sleep system and cooking method is just slightly different but almost everything else is damn near the same. So my ego says tell you "good job"! About the only thing I would add if you were me would be a gill net. They weigh almost nothing but sometimes the fish just don't bite . . but they all swim. Wake Forest NC.

you either have to cache most of this stuff at your BOL (or en-route there) or you have to lash it to a bicycle and walk beside the bike. Youlll need at least 1 lb per day of the most calorically dense food and you'll still lose .5-1.0 lb of bodyweight per day if you're walking all day, depending upon the difficulty of terrain, whether or not it's cold, wet, windy, how you're dressed, how warm your sleeping set-up is. If you dont want to lose any weight at all, youll need 2 lbs of such food. Such food is so high fat that you wont feel like eating even one lb of it per day, much less 2 lbs. So you have to eat stuff that's not as calorically dense, which means that you need to eat 3 lbs of it per day. REAL fast, you wont be able to carry enough food, eh? So you ARE going to lose bodyweight, probably a lb or more of it per day. How long can you keep that up eh? if you say more than a month, its cause you're a lardass and that aint healthy or advisable, either.

One of the very FEW advantages I have in being so small: my "maintain calories" are 1000c less than yours, even on a work day; when you said you had to get 24-2500c a day just to maintain, my eyebrows shot up! I don't often eat more than 2000c on a long day, 14-1500c to maintain my 100-110lb, active frame. My main focus right now, outside of gear, is packing on a little extra body weight and muscle (and getting out in my gear / rig more often). Love the video, love the channel. You're one of the real ones.

the roads will be full of ambushes and there's nothing you can do to effectively counter them, either. All it takes to stop your vehicle is some 1" thick sticks or boards, with 3" long nails driven into the wood. You wont be going far with 4 flat tires! The men can be in spiderholes 100m on either side of the tire-caltrops, That gives them several seconds in which to empty their magazines into your car.. Yes, you COULD put 1/2" thick metal plates or sandbags around the inside of your car, but you wont, because you dont have such things laying around and probably wont have the time to utilize them even if you did. They'll hide the caltrops under debris or brush, or drop a log across the road, or put a car there, on the other side of a hill, in a dip, around a heavily-wooded corner. Yes, you COULD have "run-flat' tires on your vehicle, but they dont really work all that well and pursuers with GOOD tires can easily catch up to you. It just doesnt make any sense to have your BOL be further away than the woods around your local water source. so you can walk there in a night or two. Yes, lots of people will go there, but if your food is scatter-buried there and you dig a tunnel (at night ) AFTER shtf, the chances of anyone noticing you are a LOT less than the risks of trying anything else.

I added 3 cans of 12hr camping fuel for cooking along with my folding stove. Doesnt take up alot of weight and is far less inconspicuous than a fire and also can double as a discreet heat source when under a bivy or poncho liner/tarp. Also a small can of shoe goo for repairing pinholes in my water bladder. My tinder is a actually a trick i learned from my special forces buddy which is cotton balls and vaseline. I have them packed up in qty of 4 in little vacuum compressed bags that are about 1.5 inches square and completely flat

I do agree on your opinion of gear. The number of people that have the 'primitive' skills to use only natural resources to survive is very small. That is a 'life style, skillset'. I believe you will have to be constantly use those skills, nearly every day, to keep them like muscle memory. Just watching a couple videos on flint knapping on a weekend does not 'teach' you how to do it.

Id be throwing some pantyhose into this kit light weight and multiple uses, id also throw in a crank radio combo (radio, lamp, sos, charge by solar, hamd crank or pre charge) being in the uk id probably leave the map out we have tons of landmarks and you can walk from coast to coast in 4 days (excluding sleep time) one more thing id add is fixits

Fix zippers, scissors, wires etc plus make small plastic items too like eyelets for makeshift fishing rods, hooks to hang stuff on maybe an additional ring on a tarp just generally a useful item even for the home

i dont see NEARLY enough food there for more than a 1-2 day bugout. You can't have a fire during a bugout, so pick no-cook food. I use jerky, flour tortillas, jelly, nut butters, salad dressing, granola, Koolaid and powdered milk

Polar Pure water purification bottles are better than tabs. 1 bottle of tabs is good for 20 quarts where Polar Pure is good for 2000 quarts..i use a german sleeping pad that is much more compact and lightweight. But good kit. Gotta love Baofengs.

And what about me, I can't go out of my home at day, because military with police catching people, packing into the vehicles and send to the war and they don't care on your health, can you do this or not. They just simply write "healthy", if you show the documehts, they are tearing and throw in the trash. some Ukrainian commanders, in collusion with the enemy, send thousands of soldiers to their death under artillery fire with a shovel and a machine gun without food and take their payments for 3 months (about $8,000 for one) and things. And mothers wait for their sons at home and hope. I'm not talking about beatings and moral abuse of soldiers.

When his girlfriend is raped by 15 soldiers every day in front of the guy's eyes and he can't do anything, and then she has a broken psyche and can't have children because everything inside is torn. when 12-14-year-old girls are raped. When Ukrainians in the occupied territories are dressed in the uniform of the Russian army and used as cannon fodder against their own people. When dogs' paws are chopped off alive and nailed to a ladder. When children bury their parents with a shovel in their yard. When Kadyrov's soldiers chop off fingers and gouge out eyes to take away a car dealership. when people get used to corpses and pieces of bodies on the streets, because they have to go and look for food. When they find a pit in the forest with fifty corpses of women with their stomachs open. that's sad, that's why I say that I'm fine

Awesome kit! Have you found a way to compartmentalize your gear without adding extra weight from the organizational bags? I have been using a smock which has around 12 pockets to carry all the first line gear and main tools that I'd like to keep on me if I have to ditch my main pack. Since I live in a cold weather environment and I'm going to have to need a jacket I decided to ditch the bags for a multi-pocketed smock.

Ok, where do I find the written packing list of survival gear because this video flew by too quick. Especially the food supply. Dentist told me after pulling a cracked tooth, instant breakfast, bla bla. Don't even know what that is so I grabbed Ensure and keto meal replacement. But I want quick meal & energy when out gold prospecting and hiking. Energy & hydration drinks don't cut it when it comes to staving off the inevitable muscle cramps on the inside of my thighs. They are worse than the swimming cramps on the back of my legs.

Don't you think the community gets over excited with bug out bags? All the cool gear and extreme scenarios? Your 1st bug out bag if you want to call it that is simply a bag with spare clothes, hygiene items - basically whatever you would take to a hotel for a couple of nights. In many situations there is plenty of warning and you can get to a hotel, family, friends in another town/city - you don't need cutting tools, tents, water purification. Anyway moving on great vid. Do you have children as it would be good to see bug out bags for the family - redundancy is mentioned a lot therefore would a partner have the exact same bag or extra supplies of the essentials instead, maybe more focussed on extra clothing for kids etc..... Depending on the age of the children how would they get out, a trolley perhaps as during a bug out you will only ever be as fast as the slowest member so the guy being able to tab all the miles with weight in reality isn't going to.

yeah bug out bags are great and important but people put too much $$$ and time into them which could better used training or caching. I do have kids and a wife, each one has their own bag. My wife carries basically the same as I do, we are both food and medical heavy...the kids only are concerned about carrying basic stuff including an extra change of clothing, one day of food, snacks etc.

From one Gear Hoarder to another, you can replace most 550 cord with braided 100lb fishing string. Apolstory Needle. Curved sewing needles. Flex tape Trex Tape write on oiley and wet markers from Sharpie. Ghille suit for self, weapons and bag. Bug headnet. Zippo hand warmers. Nitrile gloves for extreme cold, wet heat and chilly wind also maintains grip in slippery conditions, I think best survival plan is hide in tree line and urban housing. Back and forth to reset gear and food. Also, missing oragel, anti diarrhea medicine, a can of Powdered Goats Milk is worth its weight in Gold. Also dried powdered honey is a good treat. A single medium to large stainless steel bowl can be used on a hot fire and or Dakota fire pit. It replaces water carrier, soup cooker, water boiler, snow melter, weighs less and you can place in bag to take up 0.1% of space. You also need winter survival handbook. Gloves. Machete. Quiet weapons for security even a Cold steel Brooklyn smasher will do. A Spear will put food on the table. Traps make path and people can teack you. A funny or great book. I carry 20,000 leagues under the Sea and the Art of War. You're amateur Gear Hoarder to me however you're a Survivalist and you know best gear is Knowledge and a good attitude. 😅 Great Skills in the known. Nobody has skills fo the unknown. String makes great trip trap and just truckers knot and tighten till almost breaks. Its enough tension to bring down any chasers and you get 600meters of String not 100feet. Also good to take ready Sweet Potato on trips and grow them. Best survival advice is to have a huge secret garden. Your bugout location should be these hills and youre set. Last thing a full size shovel is more weight but three times less calories with two times digging potential. Real SHTF people like you and i would have many Donkeys and Camels carrying all the junk. A Sultan many hundreds of years ago in Egypt was famous for having eighty Camels just to carry all his Books. 😂

There is no situation where you would need to bug out. Nuclear attack = walking into radiation radiation dissipates after 48 hours water/food can’t be contaminated by gamma radiation stay home. Gas attack = walking into gas better hope you stay down wing. Stay home duct tape doors and windows. Hurricane maybe leave maybe not. Mother Nature has no super market if people don’t have hunting trapping or gathering skills they’re good as dead. You can have all the fancy gear you want but if you don’t know where the food is or how to get it. You’ll be better off staying home.

After actively prepping for 30 years, and testing my preps, I've come to the conclusion that unless you're using your bug out bag to get you to a predetermined safe house, it's a fool's endeavor. Watch the reality series "alone". Then add 10,000 other people going after the same resources. I live alone, off-grid, in the Alaskan bush full time. I'm prepped for two years+. If I had to live in the city, I'd have a very basic day pack that's no more than 20 lbs. I'd have food caches hidden on the route to my cabin, so I can move quickly. If I'm mugged along the way, I just need to make it to my next cache. A 22 is my weapon of choice. It's lightweight, quiet if you're using subsonic rounds, and you can carry 500 rounds very easily. I'd be the gray man, with a trench coat with fresh dog crap smeared on it. If I'm confronted, I'd beg for food. People don't realize that once ROL is lost, everyone becomes a predator, and you are the prey. Carrying a big pack makes you a target. Carrying a badass assault rifle won't scare anyone. You won't even hear the shot that takes you out because someone wants that rifle. Don't plan to hunt for your meals. That gun shot will be like ringing the dinner bell to 10,000 starving people. That's if you can even find anything to shoot at. It's time people look at prepping within reality. You're not alone and as badass as you think you are, out there you're nothing but a mouse. So be fast, quiet, and stealthy as a mouse. Have a hidden place that is difficult to get to that holds your food, clothes, wall tent, and any other supplies you need to survive a year. After a year, most people will be dead, and you can slowly go back into society to look for resources. NOTE: your most valuable prepping tool is "GOD".

I like your basic idea, but your kit is too short term, and would only work if you have a very reliable resupply point or refuge. One way around this is to carry lots of whole grains/legumes/seeds, including garden seed, many of which are sold in sealed cans from various suppliers. I would go lighter on the clothing, with one good over all set of all weather wear because for a year at least, clothing and blankets would not be hard to find, but rather go heavy on the food, which if chosen properly would also be able to start a mini survival garden somewhere out in a place that could be a secret garden. Foraging wild edibles is cool, but it takes a fairly large area, and is mostly not going to produce calorie 'density', except maybe acorns if it's the late fall time, and you still have the weight-bulk carrying issue. Overall, my guestimate of the ideal bugout bag/kit would probably always be about 100 pounds for a healthy average adult man, with about 70 pounds for an average woman. Even a five year old child can carry 10 pounds of at least a blanket, extra coat, hat, mittens, a few energy bars, etc, to take some of the load off the adults. Children are amazing. They WANT to help and be part of the effort. They instinctively know these things, and If all this seems harsh, just remember that a family group is NOT going to be out there logging in twenty mile days! Too many bugout types are acting like it's all about a lone wolf in prime shape heading into rugged adventure, when most bugout scenarios are necessarily going to be small groups of ALL ages desperately seeking a viable refuge, and that means women, children, and even babies. Personally, I'd be ready to carry about 120 pounds, based on the loadout weight expected of a US paratrooper. So remember. A heavy heavy load at first is going to steadily lose weight as you go, and all too soon you'll be wishing your pack weighed more! Good luck, and hope you never actually need to 'bugout'!

@@TheSurvivalOutpost OK, I see your strategy better now. Caching is definitely a critical aspect, but for most people, it's a pretty hard thing to do. It takes a lot of know how and a level of security beyond the average. I've been amazed at what others found of mine, even though I left it in very (I thought!) hard-to-find places. Oh well. One more point, is the concept of densely urbanized areas that would be literally impossible to do much with. As a California small town guy, I once road a bus out of New York City, and simply could not believe how LONG it took just to get OUT of that place, and that was in a bus with no traffic problems and going normal speed limits. Now that sort of logistical problem is exactly the type of thing that would be the ultimate bug out challenge. Anyways, I like your video, and certainly will help others start to get a better idea of what to start working on for any future needs.

Being on a Bug-out-trip, I can only imagine living in Bakhmout or Kyiv (the Ukrain war-zone) and having to get to safety with my self, my beloved and my behated. In no way can I identify the images of these flying Ukraïn families to Poland (remember the trafic jams to their borders and the stuffed trains) with you items in your BOB. Yes: a road map, a sufficient amount of drinkable water, enough cloths to be warm in a foren country at the mercy of......... (I dont know who!!) Enough entertainment for the childern (a football?!) and hoping for a road to reach a safe country..... not knowing where to sleep..... In no way will a tarp keep me warm or dry in such a humanitary crisis; We will not be allowed to camp in that occasion. A little box with band-aid, a box with paracetamol (painkiller for my wife having her period or migrane?) but no WW3 first aid kit. A big bottle of booz or a beer when I arrive at my hostile, at the people who took me in their home...... to cry about I had to leave; to conquer the battle of tomorrow I cant imagine a "2023 Ultimate BObag".
