Good for roll on for 6th gear pull, but the down side of that is 6th gear is shorter (lower geared) than last years 6th gear; 2024 500 6th is 7.20 to 1 vs 2020-2023 500 6th is 6.78 to 1 to the rear wheel. But the 1st gear ratio is the same, so what KTM did was use the 250-350 gearbox and use it for the 500 EXC-F. A good save for bean counting and save on tooling for KTM but it did make it a little bit lighter. Great review!

The new KTM 2-strokes no longer have the powerband hit you refer to. The new TBI is linear like the 4-strokes, which is why I now race a 2023 KTM 300 XC. Feels so much lighter on the trail despite the weight being the same.

My 2017 300 xc-w KTM (2 stroke) is very linear in the powerband. It came with 3 springs to control the powerband hit. I've never used anything other than the mild spring. Not sure how the newer tpi/tbi bikes are. Yes, the seat is like a brick, it forces you to stand.

I have the same bike. I noticed on the ride home the map switch did nothing and everything was just lit up. I called my dealer and had been trying to find some time to get it back there so they could look at it because they weren't sure what was going on. Then I saw tacomotos video and he said it does nothing on NA region bikes so I called KTM. KTM confirmed it does nothing because of DOT stuff with this being a 50 state bike they can't have something that changes the running condition of the bike. Idk why TC and QS can't be enabled, but they didn't really have an answer for that. It seems like things are very much in limbo right now and everyone is just kind of passing on what the guy above them said. BETA can get away with it as far as I know because they are a significantly smaller company with significantly lower unit volume so they don't have to hit the same standards as KTM. Then I saw a comment on that same tacomoto video of someone else with a '24 six days that had their dealer install an FMF pipe prior to taking delivery and they're claiming their map switch and TC/QS are working. Idk, it's annoying that it was something advertised, and is a major part of the six days upsell imo, and then after dropping 17 G's (with a bunch of extra parts) I find out on my ride home it does nothing. I'm not holding my breath for KTM to do anything about it. I've kind of just accepted it's a lost cause. The bike is so corked up anyway that I'm just waiting for tacomoto to release their GET SX1 ECU and grab a graves slip on to go with it and that will give me maps, TC and QS anyway. It'll be way better than the stock option anyway, you get granular control for TC levels, you can pick your maps etc and I'm pretty excited to see how the GET QS ends up working but I'm sure it'll be great. Btw check out reflex racing handguards. I know you got your KTM cycras but the reflex ones are so awesome. Soo good looking and it has the best hand gaurd design I've ever seen and it's all ran by a regular guy out of his garage. Google tacomotoco, nobody knows KTMs like them and they have all the best parts and brands. They are going to be releasing a bunch of stuff for the new '24 bikes soon.

Also pick up some doubletake mirrors! Get them big ugly squares off the bars haha. They use ram ball mounts, makes it super easy to just loosen them up and fold them down when you get to the trails to keep them safe and out of the way.
@LayerZeroDesign Жыл бұрын
Also, 64HP is for the other region bikes that aren't as corked up as the NA bikes. Idk what the number is, but I can tell you the NA bikes are going to be quite a bit down from 64. With an ECU and a good slip on and the airbox mod you can probably exceed that number. With an endcap and a piggyback EJK or power commander you would probably be pretty similar to the other region non-corked bikes.

The map switch is not going to do anything. KTM put those on the American bikes by accident. You should read your manual, because the dealer has misinformed you. The break-in is two hours, and not based on mileage. Manuel also states that you should change your oil every five hours, but for normal dual sport riding 15 to 25 hours is pretty common. Ignore the mileage.
@XtremeDogsTexas Жыл бұрын
Negative, Mr @motojon3681, at least in the manual for the 500 EXC-F six days is clear first service after 70 km (43.4 mi) I know everyone including in the dealership told me 1 hour some said 2 hours but the manual is clear in distance no time

@@XtremeDogsTexas That’s super interesting. I wonder why the engineers changed the manual after more than a decade. At the end of the day, it’s still a race bike. You’re going to be better off changing the oil by the hour rather than the miles. Keep in mind that car manufacturers have increased their oil change intervals by ridiculous amounts. It’s definitely for the purposes of Selling more cars, and not making them last longer. But it’s your bike. 👍🏽

@@maraudermitchelli thanks, just ordered the aluminum version, i tend to drop the bike on difficult terrain, so I paid a little more for the aluminum one. Thanks for the information. BTW, the map switch will not allow you to tone the throttle down - only up, the way you have it now is the toned down mapping. I ordered mine with the map switch as well, but my dealer sent it back when they found out that the US does not allow it on street legal bikes. There are after market map switches that will be available soon, but I am pretty sure that none of them will tone the throttle down. You will get used to the throttle as it is. I found with my size 13 foot, that I had to get a longer shifter and brake pedal because when I stood and rode on the balls of my feet, my foot kept hitting both the shifter and brake pedals not much, but enough. You don't need TC on these bikes and I don't think you'll ever get that. It defies the purpose of the bike. Moreover, I assume that this is a California bike (you mentioned something?) with all the emissions crap on board. That means you are at about 36-40 RWH atm which is nothing for that engine's potential which could get you to around 60 (just from de-smoging it - which you SHOULD do - the bike operates much better on every of its aspects). Your traction control is your right wrist and riding skills. Since you are so committed as to lose 40lbs just to be able to ride this thing, go the extra step and learn how to ride it properly. You seem to be in a decent enough shape. The enjoyment factor will increase exponentially. P.S. My 2012 500EXC (European model) without any smog crap, does have the 2 maps switch which I believe it's an aftermarket part in KTM's line of Power Parts. The previous owner paid for it. It's a great bike but quite excessive with the kind of riding you are claiming to want it for. Why not buying a 300 CRF Rally and call it the day? A 500EXC goes to waste in California.
@maraudermitchelli Жыл бұрын
Huge thank you for helping with a detailed comment. This is not a California bike I'm in New York State. KTM has stated they pulled the dual mapping from the US bikes due to emissions standards. I believe the stated HP is 46hp and I also think that your are right with a tuner and pipe it could get to 60hp. I agree with all your comments regarding adding a tuner. Honestly I agree with all your comments regarding my skill level and weight. I have to practice with this bike and I'm preparing for that the last two months. I workout at home and vowed never to join a gym...ugh I joined a gym to increase my strength to ride this bike. I'm working out 3 mornings at 5am at the gym which are 2 hour workouts with 30 minutes on a rowing machine. I also workout 4 mornings at home half of which I'm on my elliptical machine. I have 25lbs to meet my goal which is by April. BTW Beta Dual sport has a dual mapping switch and traction control they sneak by with the emissions for some reason. I will eventual tuner and map this bike but right now it is not a priority. I also have to place a call to Taco Moto they seems to be experts at this. I'll post my second ride on this bike within the next week...I was physically exhausted partly due to over gripping. Awesome comment thank you and be safe

@@maraudermitchelli I like a guy that can accept (what I consider) a healthy amount of criticism. Good for you. FYI I'm at 265lbs myself but at 6'9" (lean) and the bike desperately needed a stiffer rear spring. I think you'll eventually go that way too. Now, power-wise, European bikes stand at around 62hp (crankshaft) out of the box at least for my model year. Since then, maybe they dropped a few ponies here and there for the Euro 6 crap (I'm very conscious when I call it "crap" - it's actually environmentally MORE harmful to manufacture all this extra hardware which, in most cases, it'll get stripped out of the bike right after purchase by the owners, mine was striped off of it when I got her at 190 hours but still runs great at 350+ hours - 13500 kms on the odo). So you'll need to desmog it to get a real feel of what that bike is about. Hopefully all goes well for you.
