A few days of preparation. Studying and drilling some Meyer's longsword. Let's go!
I got 2nd.
As far as I can tell I was able to act on the first intent decently, my spacing was not great in the first match but improved as time went on and I fought the urge to just rush in, my angling of the blade itself improved as I flicked it out more and made better use of the cross guard (something I'm not used to having, coming from Chinese, Taiwanese, and Filipino weapons).
What I thought I needed to work on most and what I was struggling to do mid competition was to properly get behind cover of my blade and angle to therefore make it more difficult for the opponent to maneuver and attack again and so on... I was not sensitive to the right elbow and it got tagged there quite a bit thinking that I was at a safe distance or safe angle but in fact I was exposed just enough...
I think if I had just charged beat down on head, pushed off angled and continued... I could have won all the doubles and ended up winning but I wouldn't have learned anything about fencing and where my skills need to be improved.
