My 3.13 Ritual League Starter Build! Bringing back Inspired Learnings from the DEAD?!

******* THE POB HAS BEEN UPDATED SLIGHTLY TO MAKE LVLING AND TRANSITION BETTER/CHEAPER ******** HUGE thanks to my boy Nicolas277 (and other discord members, actually) for introducing me to this build and helping me out with the Path of Building and giving me suggestions... There were so many options to consider, so many ways to build this character and every single one of them seemed good, it was quite frankly annoying. But all in all, I'm happy with what I ended up with as it feels it progresses well and adds things when it needs it the most. For example, jewel sockets aren't exactly useful during leveling but are MASSIVE in the endgame! Also... Inspired Learnings are INSANE for this build AND they happen to go in the exact spot where you can spend very minimal points on "useless" stuff, can't wait to snag up a few of them early before the price goes haywire! Goodluck, this is what I'm going with, there's plenty of options out there but BF/BB is hard to look past with the ability to transition into Self-Poison at any moment AND the incredible clear which goes in tandem incredibly well with the Ritual league mechanic... I'm hyped.

it's still 50% phys, since divine wrath and divine fury converts LIGHTNING spells and FIRE spells respectively.. bladefall and bladeblast are both physical skills without the lightning or fire tag so they don't get the conversion.. not that it matters that much for leveling of course..

just fyi, divine wrath and divine fury convert the phys portion of lightning and fire spells respectively, they won't convert a physical spell like blade blast. not sure if that changes the way you want to build your tree, just thought I'd give you the heads up

I love it when people put the extra time in the pob builds. Us newer players that still need our hand held for builds much appreciates it. Or else it always gets so overwhelming so fast. And or never knowing which way your supposed to go on the tree first and knowing when you should be linking x and x skills/support gems. I also had a question about the build, you say its not a bossing build. But for people that just plan to actually finish the altas for the first time this league. Then do some bossing like metamorph/maven stuff would you think this build could still be perfectly fine? Or recommend going something else more focused on bossing?

As I understood it, there are basically two versions of this build. The one in the end with the inspired learnings is squishy af without rare mobs to steal mods from, so it's made for delirium farming with poison sextant abuse. If you want to be good at bossing and still have a good clear, you should take crit multi/life jewels instead and use that version of the build to be more tanky and stand on your own much better without the inspired learning buffs. That should work for the boss heavy maven stuff. The 2.5m DPS shown are definitely enough to do all bosses in the game right now like Shaper, Elder, Awakener, Uber Elder, Uber Atziri. Also (have not looked at the pob), you can fiddle with the build a bit when you accumulate more currency to specc into some cluster jewels to further enhance survivability and damage. Inspired learning is just for "too early to be true" 100% delirium (or juiced maps in general) farm. The regular build is cool for all content.

Made the levelling smoother by utilising spellslinger for the two active skills. Dropping herald of ash and skitters. Damage maintained by utilising frenzy +hextouch +conductivity which obviously gives frenzy charge generation. This over came the mana issues in the later acts. Thanks for a great build.

Ye Spellslinger is fine here but it suffers from the same issue as all the other spellslinger builds early, lack of damage, especially here due to timing being so important, but for lvling its great, probably good in early maps even!

@@NederBProductions You can try thus build with a chieftain convert fire, personnaly i just use like 50 chaos for my build to work perfectly on the first map rotation ( im only at t7/8 maps and i think i can climb up to t14 without any more investement) The tree on chieftain give it a bit more tankyness cause you take hp + armor with a shield but in the pob you have (only) 2.3 million dps. I think this version can suit you way more better than the assasin one. If you need the pob i give it to you with pleasure^^ (sorry if my english is bad i try my best to be readable)

@@lamosos Generally I use CWDT Frost Wall specifically to manage projectile hits, so it's kept relatively low (20-30% HP), where it puts wall up at a bit of distance. I don't use it to deal with direct melee hits because it just puts a wall up in my face.

Decided to test it out. Leveling is smooth af, just zoom-zoom/boom-boom, even considering how bad I am at this game it took me only 7.5h to A10 Kitava. Survivability is lacking, so just kill stuff before it looks at you too precisely and manually dodge. Perhaps if you really want to you can grab A/PA earlier for survivability but it will make leveling twice as slow. For those who are cringing about picking Divine Wrath/Fury - there's plenty of damage on the right side of the tree that we will use later anyways, so you may prefer that instead. Overall I really liked the build, smooth leveling, great damage, early maps ez, red maps with a few c of investment. Thanks Matt, great build!

Ye I swapped over to the right side of the tree when I was told that Divine Wrath/Fury weren't conversion nodes, I hadn't read it properly... Woops. The Updated POB stays on the right side and grabs accro and phase accro much earlier, around act 6 or 7, and that will make the lvling muuuuch safer

Great video and build! I played a fire version of this last league at it was really good but that means i don't want to do it again this league. I'm likely going to start your Cold Dot spell slinger as a i had a blast when I tested it. I know the Single target isn't the best but honestly im pretty sure harvest can get me to the point where it wont feel that bad even for bossing. Im more hyped for this league than the past few!

not really, the wands are actually crafted at level 20 by buying it from the vendor. And The only pricey thing is a cinderswallow and the Carcass Jack. But he even mentioned that you can get the carcass jack for cheap and not a 6 link.

2 x Cold Iron Points (in the 3 link demo) does add 6 physical skill gem levels though - so that is a decent boost. i.e. it's not a true "3 link" example. That said ... this is a T16 map so yeah, decent. And a Cold Iron point was only 10c last league, so definitely achievable :)

We don't use CIP actually, the PoB shows that a rare wand with just +1 phys and crafted spell damage is 5% more damage per wand and endgame void battery is TWICE the damage CIP does

Hi Matth, hope you get the time to read this and help me with this question. :) I've started as Cyclone Max Block Gladiator and while I've enjoyed it, I'm starting to get tired of this build and I want to try something else, this time a build focused on making money for other stuff. After watch some of your videos and stream (and Grimro and talk to some dudes in his dicord) I'm thinking to try a BF/BB or BV. Now I'm not sure which 'variant' of those builds would be the best on a ~10ex budget (yes, I'm not very good at making money haha). On poe.ninja Blade Blast seems to be a better choice with 45% of Assassins playing it. And those 60% are playing a Physical version (I've excluded the ones using Spellslinger since I don't like the playstyle). But the thing is... I can't decide between: - Poison BV - Poison BF/BB - Physical BF/BB to start a new character tonight focused on making money. I know this videos is about a Physical version but not sure if things changed after a week into the league. I know Grim is playing now a Fire BV but this one needs more currency so, on a ~10ex budget. Which one would you suggest? Thanks alot (you and Grimro) for this content and how you two shares your knowledge on how to play the game on such a high level. Thanks!

Poison BV is a one button build, very cheap and you can get somewhat tanky, same goes for poison BF/BB but its 2 button build which is an absolute nuker, it does insane damage compared to even BV. The phys version is a squishier version than the poison version of BF/BB or BV, but it does WAAAAAAAAAY more damage than those two builds. It's a slower mapper since it doesn't really have explodes or plague bearer, but the damage tht build does is stupid if you can time them right

I just got my guy to mapping and did the switch to phys version. Once you get to mapping and still running elemental damage, dont panic. once you switch to phys and 2 cold iron points, everything is deleted Edit: Just tried a tier 11 map and deleted it with a 5 link 2 cold iron points.

EDIT: Actually, it only works for vendor recipies, not for actual items that they sell. My bad! Just to let you know, in 3.13 the items magic or rare that the vendors sell to you will be unidentified, so you won't be able to type "nn" on the vendor in act 1 to buy 10% ms boots. I say this because you included this method in the notes section of the pob :D

I assumed that this also applied for purchasing items on the vendor, but reading it again maybe i was mistaken. Idk

the build has no survivability issues until you get to high tier reds, its a playstyle type of build though, a friend of mine pushed up to delirious orb mapping on day 1 and had headhunter by saturday with this build, it's deff pretty good

@@Sinistrality17 At this point, I'd recommend you hit up poe.ninja, search for Assassin bladeblast characters, grab one with decent life, and just use them as a template instead. That's usually a good way to go from a build guide to actually handling end-game content.

Is there any item guide for this build? the POB just links a bunch of random items that are quite basic stuff with Res/life. The damage is insane but as some others said, I'm really squishy. Lvl 70 atm with only 3k life. Damagewise I'm still oneshotting most things, but every mob hits me for 30% or more of my hp per hit. 1) Is Carcass Jack really the best body armour? 2) Is there no other wands or weapons that are better? for example cold iron point? 3) Why Herald of ash? Thanks for the help :) it's a fun build so far. EDIT: Cold Iron Point is in the video, I had forgotten that since I watched this video last week. It would still be good to know hat our endgame build looks like so we have something to work towards. Same for ideal Gem Setup. Perhaps an updated video?

I'm lvl87 atm and have to say that as a starter this is great - acts, labs - easy. I entered red maps t12 90%-100% and I don't know how you can survive it as there is zero life recovery and even with some leech it's not enough. Not sure how this can be fixed, except really pumping HP. Dmg is fine - something around 5M and should be no issue to do t16, but damm it's a 100% glass cannon.

Yup, it's a glass cannon, but it's hell of a cannon, my favorite league starter ever, you just need to have something in mind in terms of respec'ing to a more typical assassin build, something I mentioned in the video

@@pathofmatth I understand that you play the game from a little bit different perspective so being able to finish the story in 3-4h is a huge thing and from this point of view the build is great. For casual players it's a struggle. As a dirty casual (I just get my Sirus A9 finished) I have to say that warchief would have been much better choice. I rerolled into it and it just demolish stuff on a budget (10ex) + can actually survive.

I have seen some CoC variations of this build so my question is if integrating CoC is possible for your version? I tried BB/BF build for a little in Heist, and my biggest problem were bosses. Like Conquerors/Sirus... etc... those fast and frequently moving and dodging bosses. The problem was not the lack of damage (got tons of it) but with the bosses moving/jumping away from the BF cast location and partially or completely evading the BB explosions... I think CoC solve this problem and is also a lot easier and fun playstile too as you only need to think about hitting the targets with BF and focus on dodge/kiting dangerous things mobs throw at you.

You can easily get over 5-6k life with jewels on the non-inspired learning tree and since you have massive strength requirement for things like pride, you actually get a very high level steelskin on your cast when dmg taken, pair that up with nearly dodge and spell dodge cap... you really aren't that squishy, even for an assassin!

I don't think you watched the whole video homie, I mentioned that ofc you drop brutality once you get to inspired learnings :) can be replaced with anything you want really, conc effect or even back to conversion if you want, it's up to you how you go from there

Totally doable, go for a full conversion fire build with herald of ash and the clear will be quite good, damage and survivability should not be an issue on this assassin, especially for softcore but for pesky 10 bosses at a time might be better on chieftain for sure!

Any tips or advice....Im not using inspired learning, but your POB does not show the build with them active around lvl 80 so not sure where all the damage and crit chance and crit multi are coming from. Only 2 pieces of your gear have crit, not sure how you have so much.

OOF.. Spell cascade over faster casting for bladefall? huge inc dps. No mention about crafting gear for late game? Helm without Inc AoE or Conc Effect? (I could go on) Literally 10x better league starting this build as chief.. Damage is far easier to scale. Points make more sense. Can get to 8k+ HP VERY easy. (i've played this build twice now Chief 100 Assassin 98) literally just playing chief, Getting ele overload stacking fire dmg on 5c jewels will out perform this both DPS wise and sustain wise. OR play poison variant... Poison build is faster clear speed than chief and arguably slightly tankier (chief relies on regen and untill lategame can still get one hit where as pois build with wind dancer + Kintsugi barely gets touched)... Love the effort you put in dude. Feel like this is a very rushed guide though. I would highly recommend ONLY people with very good build knowledge to try this as a league starter.

Not to mention crafting the late game gear for the chieftain variant is EXTREMELY easy/cheap if you know what you're doing.....

I have some currencies like 200c and i wanna upgrade some of my gear. now im playing with two Cold Iron Point and Carcass Jack 5l, should I change weapons for wands with spell damage and +to all spell gems? Either you go with Opportunistic for an extra defensive layer (esp when mapping) or you go ambush and assassinate for some THICC single target OR you go noxious strike if you're doing the whole poison sextant abuse :)

Do you think jugg would still be viable for this? I know it seems odd but was gonna be a boss killer anyways and with harvest coming back, getting high crit multi is gonna be easier now. And was going to switch to howa jugg like a week in once most of the gear is available/crafted, but chieftain would still be ok, but the respec would be a little annoying. Regarding the choices it would be the endu charge dmg/aoe node and then the 2 defensive ones (cannot be slowed and 5% reduced dmg taken)

Thank you so much for this build. I was aiming to play the poison BB version but after the Ascendancy changes this version looks to be far superior. Btw any chance for an updated PoB with more expensive items like Cold Iron Point x2, maybe explody chest, curse on hit ring and stuff?

That's already in the PoB, theres 2 sets of items, we go double void battery actually, MUCH better than cold iron point here. The rest of the items are pretty endgame so things to aim for, especially with Harvest coming back

Well i'm going to use that build to fund my early aurastacker(it's still possible to get like 300+ aura effect which is enough to get 90 90 90 res and like 15 mil dps on scion ofc)

I tried blade fall + blade blast during the mayhem event and I didn't like the playstyle to the point where I ended up respeccing to blade vortex. Is there an alternative to this league starter that still uses the inspired learning jewels?

If you have the currency, yes, CoC is not super beginner friendly if you want the dmg to be decent!
