Hi ,I've played shadows music for 40 years now and I use tge strymon volante into a dc30 amp sim pedal or the joyo ac tone, then going into albeton live daw. Also use plugins sound toys superplate for Abbey road reverb get you very close to the early sound of the shadows. Looking forward to seeing more. Cheers Darrell

Good sounds , if you want a good delay pedal for Shadows music, try Stanley Effects Blue Baby or Blue Nebula , which were developed to mimic the Meazzi echos and more that Hank used. Not too expensive for boutique pedals. I use these and you can find demos on my page.
@TheMusicHallsTV4 ай бұрын
Hey Roger, thanks for your comment. That Stanley pedal is a great recommendation and is another on my list to try. I checked out some of your videos and you have some great tones going on. A man after my own heart. There's something very special but nobody knows what Paramore/Addy did with those Abbey rd recordings. I suspect it's partly to do with those vintage AC15s and AC30/4s with original Mullard valves. I'm a lot older than you but my first LP was--The Shadows Greatest Hits! That was in 1963 when it cost 30 shillings. Your Kon Tiki tone is really good and I see you are playing on the bridge over the neck p/u which I have never done but am now going to try. From someone who agonises over which pickup and where on the fretboard and where the picking is done when Hank played these tunes, I think that the Kon Tiki chorus is switched to the middle p/u, but what do you think? I have had years of discussions with a sadly now deceased friend about this sort of thing and so your channel and knowledge is a bit of a godsend.
@TheMusicHallsTVАй бұрын
Hey! Thanks for the comment. Let me know how you get on with the bridge pickup. If I'm honest I'm always experimenting and from reading through Charlie Halls notes to listening to the old records and watching old live footage it can be tricky to find the closest to that tone. For me though I just always trust my own ears best and work with what seems to sound closer to that tone on my own recordings. I know thought each time there will always be improvements to make so that's part of the fun. I'm sorry to hear of the passing of your friend but I'm actually wanting to start a little shadows community and a place to come where I can make in depth videos on experimenting with sound so we go through this journey together. It will be a pleasure to have you on board my friend and look forward to talking more shadows content with you in the future. I thought you might like to check out my Christmas cover which I've done in the style of Hank which can be found here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJuraWtvg92DhdUsi=zN6lZPsEcmdISQ-E A lot of my shadows covers are a little older so I will be redoing them in the New Year with a fresh approach and I would love to document the process of trying to get closer to those original tones. I thought you may like to hear another of my Hank Marvin style covers as well: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHzTZ4GiZrCUe5Y Thanks again for the support buddy KH 🤟🏻

Have you considered trying the Strymon Volante for hanks sound. I recommend it.
@TheMusicHallsTV4 ай бұрын
Hey Peter. You know what I haven’t ever tried the Strymon Volante in person but I would absolutely love to try one. From what I’ve heard they sound amazing so I would love to get one on my channel one day. As I mention in the video I love my Strymon Flint especially and use it all the time. I do have the timeline delay but I find it pretty complex. I feel like I may get on with the Volante a bit better. I’m especially interested in those old plexi and Binson echoret type tones. Thanks for the support Peter, hope you enjoyed the covers. Have a great day KH 🤟

Have you ever tried to contact him and ask him about his tone?
@TheMusicHallsTV4 ай бұрын
Hey Simon. You know what I’ve actually had the pleasure of meeting him twice. Once in a sound check for his show in Grimsby when I was 10 and then later in Camden. His son Ben was on the same guitar course I attended in London and he happened to be watching the same show and he was the loveliest person! I had so many questions but of course it’s tricky to in the moment to ask them all haha. I would love to be able to reach out to him one day and maybe get a bunch of questions from my YT subscribers too that would be incredible. Thanks for your support Simon, it’s greatly appreciated. Do you have 57/62 pickups ? There one of the best Your sound can be better
@TheMusicHallsTV2 ай бұрын
Hey are they Ron Ellis pick ups you’re talking about? Pickups are incredibly subjective and everyone has a different opinion. I’ve been interested in trying some Ron Ellis pick ups but they’re £750 which is a lot of money and something I couldn’t justify. I would like to try them in a different one of my strata however as I’m pleased with the Lindy Fralins in mine.
