When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade, or in this case liquid KZbin videos. Hopefully you can learn from my mistakes, and vet your potential purchases better. I did get a full refund, and she re-sold the fish at a much more appropriate price.
I bought the new and improved fish from here! www.cichlaholic.com/

Kinda late viewing this, but couldn't believe how many viewers gave it a thumbs down. The Tropheus I have seen are, like a lot of fish, nicer looking though not always as colorful when young. Fighting takes a toll on them. Maybe they were overpriced. Our local store sells 1/2 inch fish for $30 dollars. So maybe they weren't. Also, when large only the dominant male is going to really color nicely. I agree with those that said this lady was very generous in making it up to you. She is to be applauded for her understanding of possibly your very high expectations.

I like how you inform people about the situation and what you would have done instead of, like so many people on the internet would do, "bash" on the seller and complain. It actually help people see what they need to look for if they want to buy "used" fish.

Man I hear your pain. But.... If I buy a fish (with or without proper images or knowledge about their health) I will keep em. I will treat em soo good that they will in return loook sexy as fuck! It works no matter how bad the fish are. If I bring em home. They are here to stay. Kinda sad you are giving up on them cuz they are not up to your quality standards.

I would just make her return a bit of the money because the fish werent' up to quality. The fish would heal as much as they can and color up, and fatten up over time and with good care. I would just see it as good I could save those fishes atleast. But yeah we all want different things, I think you were to hard on the fish though.

unless you are specifically trying to breed these fish and sell them to people who are going to judge them for their appearance and make a purchase accordingly, why not keep the fish and just nurse them back to health? even the healthy fish of this species aren't really all that pretty. but what does it matter? I have six little corydoras and they are not the prettiest fish but they have lovely personalities and I enjoy watching them socialize with each other

I really enjoyed the video. You seem like a smart guy and i can tell you care about fish too. It's understandable in the end why you returned the fish. It really doesn't relate the same to adopting a dog or something. A fish tank is a piece of living art. If you pay for quality fish that's what you should get. You have a great tank and the new fish are looking great too. Thanks for the video.

Hey I have a question tell me if this is to many fish for a 20 gallon 5 guppies,2 bristle nose plecos, 7 neon tetras and 2 dwarf gouramis? Also my filter gets 130 gallons of water through it every hour.
@AquaticLogic
@AquaticLogic 7 жыл бұрын
What type of filter is it? How often do you water changes? What does your NH3, NO2-, NO3-, look like just before a water change?
@felixthepoopcat8219
@felixthepoopcat8219 7 жыл бұрын
Ants America Is it a 20 long or high? If it's a high I would get rid of both of the plecos. If it's a long I would still find another home for one of the bristle noses. They have pretty large bio loads, even one in a 20 gal is pushing it a bit to some people, much less two. Also what gender are the gouramis? Not two males, right? If you have a male still be careful as guppies can be fin nippers and there are lots of stories of gouramis killing fancy guppies.
@zookeeper3502
@zookeeper3502 7 жыл бұрын
I changed my mind so I just got 2 black fin tetras to start with also it is 20 long. So I am going to have in total 5 black skirt tetras,4 guppies, and 2 cory cats Also I like the look of zebra danios so I would get 3 of those that is all also I will do a 25% water change every 1 week or every other week .

@AquaticLogic
@AquaticLogic 7 жыл бұрын
I suspected that these fish had poor genetics, and the phenotype with the orange band was not going to manifest even if the fish were healthy. As for the rocks, I do double styrofoam. I support the bottom of the tank with it, and I also add some inside the tank on the bottom. It spreads out the load on the glass, and prevents any form of deflective load, which makes it safe. The sand also buffers out the dynamic load if I accidentally drop one.

From your video they don't look any different. I checked twice but I can't see any difference. If a fish has an eye problem maybe that's not so good but it seems to be swimming well. If your water quality is so good and you are feeding them good then a visually impaired fish shouldn't be such a big deal.

I have a landscaping company near me that sells this "Rundle Rock" in huge 300lb-10,000lb boulders. I took home a 300lb rock and smashed it up with my sledgehammer and threw the chunks in my tank. Its actually a limestone, so it will keep the pH, GH, KH up to Rift Lake specs (but my water is pretty much saturated liquid rock off of the mountains in which this rock comes from).

You should dedicate your tank to either Tanganyika or Malawi lake species. I kept Malawi cichlids for over 25 years because I found the species from Lake Malawi much more colorful, easy to keep (they are very hardy), they are generally less expensive than Tanganyikans and they come in all different shapes.Malawi cichlids also have great personalities.

My first fish was a Betta, I got to take it home after we did (ethical) experiments on them in my into bio class at university. I think it’s a great place to start, and as far as laying out a road map it would require me to type out A LOT of info for you. My best advice is to check out a local mom and pop fish store with intelligent and caring people working there. The big box fish stores suffer from turnaround and hiring… Uh… People with low IQ’s? There are some awesome KZbin videos that go through “how to setup your first tank”, and I suggest starting there. Just get the Betta an actual aquarium, with an actual filter so it does not suffer a long time and die. It like any aquatic organism needs no Ammonia or Nitrites in the water. Also, get a filter WITHOUT disposable cartriges! Aquaclear, Fluval C-series, Seachem Tidal, sponge filter, something like that. HTH

Thank you for the reply and advice, i will be sure to look into it and make sure I know what I'm doing before getting a Betta fish, but one more thing, is it true they're very aggressive because I have heard they are from some people and aren't from others?

They show really strong aggression male-male (conspecific). If a female Betta, or any other fish from a different species is in there they wont care. If you add a male and female its pretty neat because of their unique breeding behavior.

And I was annoyed when the 175 dollar canister filter I bought for 60 dollars wasn't up to par... I kept it though and am just replacing the tubing and all the intake/output pieces on a "3 month old pump"

Sorry to hear that man, but at least you know now how long its gonna go before another preventative maintenance interval.

But how long did you quarantine them? Why expose your existing fish to these ones?

That whole tank was a new setup, so I was going to treat all fish in the tank at the same time, because they were added days apart.

I was wondering given they are from two different populations and the second batch are so raggedy. Good luck with your tank, love the aquaspace!

I was took on fish that looked the same , I'm not an aquarium guy but I had did a small remodel job for a guy that was a breeder and he gives me a 55 gal set up with about 15 of those , I went to local fish shop and asked them if they would be interested ? They new the breeder , and I only wanted credit to put more colorful cichlids in my tank , they looked fish up told me they could only sell for $7-$10 ea so they offered me $5 ea , I not knowing , sold them the fish , all about the size of yours , out of curiosity checked back 3 days later and they had sold half , had large sign up " special ,very rare , cherry spot trophious Mori $39.99" I had an argument that did no good , and never set foot in that business again , (fish man pet center )Springfield Illinois

Wow.. The seller is a much better person then me. After she drained her tank you expected her to hold them in what a bucket? So you pretty much killed the whole batch.

Hey man those are cichlids... Give it two years and all of yours will start to look banged up as this is survival of the fittest. Go to and aquarium or zoo and check out the hippos/African penguins/fish from Africa and their cichlids have a more massive tank and much more room per capita. They are not a schooling fish at all and do not need to be with that many at close quarters. The only way to avoid your next problem as they are still small fish is create as many hiding places as possible and increase that live plant growth by fertilizing them with the fish waste/detritus material. It will just be war all the time. Changing rock placement frequently will make them change territories as well and can be beneficial. Get ready for natural selection in this fish tank, but get more rock/driftwood! I have made every mistake having tanks over the last 10 years and can give honest advice if you need. You’re doing great with the diet of them and I can tell that you honestly care about the fish with the passion I did when I first started out! Good luck & Hope this helps!
