I like how you inform people about the situation and what you would have done instead of, like so many people on the internet would do, "bash" on the seller and complain. It actually help people see what they need to look for if they want to buy "used" fish.

Kinda late viewing this, but couldn't believe how many viewers gave it a thumbs down. The Tropheus I have seen are, like a lot of fish, nicer looking though not always as colorful when young. Fighting takes a toll on them. Maybe they were overpriced. Our local store sells 1/2 inch fish for $30 dollars. So maybe they weren't. Also, when large only the dominant male is going to really color nicely. I agree with those that said this lady was very generous in making it up to you. She is to be applauded for her understanding of possibly your very high expectations.

unless you are specifically trying to breed these fish and sell them to people who are going to judge them for their appearance and make a purchase accordingly, why not keep the fish and just nurse them back to health? even the healthy fish of this species aren't really all that pretty. but what does it matter? I have six little corydoras and they are not the prettiest fish but they have lovely personalities and I enjoy watching them socialize with each other

Hey I have a question tell me if this is to many fish for a 20 gallon 5 guppies,2 bristle nose plecos, 7 neon tetras and 2 dwarf gouramis? Also my filter gets 130 gallons of water through it every hour.
@AquaticLogic8 жыл бұрын
What type of filter is it? How often do you water changes? What does your NH3, NO2-, NO3-, look like just before a water change?
@felixthepoopcat82198 жыл бұрын
Ants America Is it a 20 long or high? If it's a high I would get rid of both of the plecos. If it's a long I would still find another home for one of the bristle noses. They have pretty large bio loads, even one in a 20 gal is pushing it a bit to some people, much less two. Also what gender are the gouramis? Not two males, right? If you have a male still be careful as guppies can be fin nippers and there are lots of stories of gouramis killing fancy guppies.
@zookeeper35028 жыл бұрын
I changed my mind so I just got 2 black fin tetras to start with also it is 20 long. So I am going to have in total 5 black skirt tetras,4 guppies, and 2 cory cats Also I like the look of zebra danios so I would get 3 of those that is all also I will do a 25% water change every 1 week or every other week .

@AquaticLogic8 жыл бұрын
I suspected that these fish had poor genetics, and the phenotype with the orange band was not going to manifest even if the fish were healthy. As for the rocks, I do double styrofoam. I support the bottom of the tank with it, and I also add some inside the tank on the bottom. It spreads out the load on the glass, and prevents any form of deflective load, which makes it safe. The sand also buffers out the dynamic load if I accidentally drop one.

I think beta fish are very beautiful and would like to get one, but not sure if that's the best way to go straight away.
@AquaticLogic7 жыл бұрын
My first fish was a Betta, I got to take it home after we did (ethical) experiments on them in my into bio class at university. I think it’s a great place to start, and as far as laying out a road map it would require me to type out A LOT of info for you. My best advice is to check out a local mom and pop fish store with intelligent and caring people working there. The big box fish stores suffer from turnaround and hiring… Uh… People with low IQ’s? There are some awesome KZbin videos that go through “how to setup your first tank”, and I suggest starting there. Just get the Betta an actual aquarium, with an actual filter so it does not suffer a long time and die. It like any aquatic organism needs no Ammonia or Nitrites in the water. Also, get a filter WITHOUT disposable cartriges! Aquaclear, Fluval C-series, Seachem Tidal, sponge filter, something like that. HTH
@tkstv97107 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the reply and advice, i will be sure to look into it and make sure I know what I'm doing before getting a Betta fish, but one more thing, is it true they're very aggressive because I have heard they are from some people and aren't from others?
@AquaticLogic7 жыл бұрын
They show really strong aggression male-male (conspecific). If a female Betta, or any other fish from a different species is in there they wont care. If you add a male and female its pretty neat because of their unique breeding behavior.

I don't think you should have returned the fish to her. She obviously didn't know how to care for them. What you should have done was had her return your money, given her back $20-$30 and kept the fish. Then tell her that returning the fish to her was most likely a death sentence for them and you would rehabilitate them, get them healthy again and give them a good home. If none of them died, you could return another small sum of money back to her but your time was worth money too and caring for sick fish takes money too. I know it's too late now. I hope those fish found a new home and weren't just flushed or worse......released into a local lake or pond.

no he doesn't has love for them. all he want is to get his money returned and buy another new batch of beautiful fish. probably for display tank, for other people to come and praise his beautiful fish. some people they keep animals because they want to watch it and let other to praise about it. some people keep animals because they love that animal. these people they care more on the love parts of the animals, and not for display. so you will see some people they love to keep so many juvenile fishes and cull the ugly one when they realize it, so that he can have beautiful fishes which make him proud. then you will see some people they keep some ugly fishes and some beautiful fishes and when you ask them, "why you keep those ugly fishes?" you will most probably start to hear them talking about the story of these fish, how he rescue them, how he felt pity for them when they are abused by the previous owners and so on. so there are always these 2 type of fish keepers. one for the display and proud. one for the love of that fish (like dogs and cats).

who in this world wants to keep ugly fish?

They're millions of fish, why keep ugly ones? There are 3-4 million dogs euthanized each year so should you give the sick ones a home or the healthy ones a home? Obviously the healthy ones should live and, unfortunately, the sick ones will be euthanized.

all that space and all you have is a couple rocks and a bunch of cichlids? that's criminal. If i had that much space, I'd create such an awesome aquascape, utilizing all the space
