Hey, just wanna add my personal experience on one of the predictions you've made in the video. I bought an A1 last year in a sale, hoping to print some cool minis and models for fun, but nowadays my parents are requesting more and more utility prints for the house than projects I was planning on working on instead. So far I've printed a custom kitchen organizer, a box for mahjong tiles, a few magnet encasement keychains to test if pots are compatible with induction cooktops, all sorts of niche items. I think we will see some interesting new feature introduced to the FDM market, I just hope that they continue to listen to the customer and take some extra time on QC and practical feature sets. I would also love to see more customization options for the top few models each company is making, make them so they can be upgraded easily and keep all spare parts readily available for the long term. I prefer to pay a few dollars extra for premium components especially any drive train components. I do believe the model that Prussa has maintained is a great one, make these machines upgradeable and always keep the parts available for easy resplacement and upgradeability.

OnShape is still predominantly running on your local hardware; it's only really cloud computing in the file sharing sense. It *is* possible that it offloads some expensive algorithmic stuff to the cloud, I don't know, but the UI and 3D graphics will all be done locally.

@@MakersMuse I mean I haven't looked that closely, I wouldn't necessarily rule anything out, but it's pretty unlikely. Cloud rendering can be achieved by delivering it to the client via video stream, but you would likely notice encoding artefacts and interaction latency in this case. It's much more likely it's rendered locally; even low end GPU chipsets are surprisingly capable these days, and from a graphics hardware point of view, CAD isn't really that demanding. (For what it's worth I'm a professional software engineer, and I have deployed 3D graphics web apps. I tried linking but KZbin is extra fastidious about filtering links.)

I stopped uploading models because of model theft for points and even commercial sales... :( But Bambu has created something unique om MakerWorld. Exclusive models that gives you some sort of "Copyright" in which they help you copyright claim your model should it be uploaded or sold somewhere else. Quite an interesting option for both MakerWorld and the creator/uploader of the exclusive model.

The 3d printers working well enough to focus on what is printed is a game changer. I got an A1 mini for miniature wargame prints but also did some functional prints. Learn some CAD and designed a few custom parts as well. I didn't bother with printers before because it seemed like calibrating them was a hobby by itself. I can see why tinkering with them is interesting but it wasn't something I wanted to add to my pile of hobbies. These newer printers are good tools and I generally don't have to tinker.

Get director's commentary, extra scenes, AND Easter egg menus on top of it. You can also rip with Handbrake and drop the mp4 into a Jellyfin server if you really need to stream it. I see a major change on the horizon will be to see HUGE drops in prices for premium brand/printers but they will ONLY work with an always on internet connection and a monthly subscription fee. Manufacturers will try to convince people this is a good thing by providing a vast selection of models to choose from. But the end user will only own the printer in name alone and unless they are willing to make a significant investment in time and aftermarket parts they will be stuck with this subscription model. The manufacturers will also take over all slicing options to make it a simple "press a button and print" function which will appeal to the new user (or the simply lazy) but no actual understanding of 3D printing will be involved. They'll turn them into the 3D printing equivalent of a microwave oven. I can absolutely see them marketing it with images of a grandmother somewhere pressing a "start" button and then pulling a perfect toy out to give her grandchild as a gift. I see paid reviews INCREASING in number, which is really sad TBH. Unless the reviewer spends their own hard earned money on the printer I don't give reviews any credence. The reviewer simply CANNOT give an unbiased review if there is no risk to them. I also see an increase in the number of filament types and blends made available with each manufacturer coming out with their own names and acronyms to try and distinguish their filament from other brands. This will intentionally serve to confuse many people so they will then just stick to the one brand they know and likely it'll be the printer manufacturer's own brand. Basically there will be a lot of sneaky tricks played on the consumer to make them THINK they are getting more for their money when in reality they will be getting less. If the manufacturers can't increase the prices of the printers they will invent new revenue streams. I wouldn't be shocked to see them come out with a cheap line of printers they consider to be disposable. You NEVER even think of fixing it. It just goes back into the box, you send it back and they ship you the latest model. Of course this will be bundled with a MANDATORY subscription fee, plus extra hidden fees if you don't save the original box and packaging, pack it THEIR way or have in ANY way "tampered" with the machine. But they'll get a LOT of takers if a new user can get an X1C for $150 shipped to their door and a $15 a month subscription. Many people will simply use it for a year and send it back thinking they are beating the system.

Plus Polymaker's Fiberon line, which includes pps-cf just came out. This big filament company will be pressuring 3D printing companies to make their printers work for this material. I see an arms race on the horizon... by the end of the year we might have a QIDI 5 printing PEKK.

I think people overthink the "cloud vs. local" debate. Worrying about internet outages is like buying a generator for your home-some do, but for most, it’s unnecessary. If the internet goes down, it affects much more than just printers. A bigger issue is if the company goes bankrupt and our expensive devices stop working due to their proprietary cloud service.

I spent several years on my sidewinder x1, so now that I finally started looking for a more capable machine (preferably a dual extruder that uses widely available hotends / nozzles and is capable of printing engineering filaments), I tend to get disappointed after finding out that this "large print area"advertising claim refers to something like a 200x150x150mm bed. The most promising candidate at the moment seems to be the Prusa XL, but from what I have read it simply has way to many issues for a printer at that price point. ~~otherwise I just have to bite the sour Apple and build something myself, though my sanity won't probably appreciate if I skipped that part~~ Anyway, I really appreciate your videos and wish you and everyone here a great 2025^^

I foresee people just generating models and uploading them without printing them to see how they do. People who don't test their models will be called out for it. Apart from one thing, and that is AI might actually be tailored to be useful for a different demographic of people, but alas, it seem to have miles to go yet. From the trends you see coming and across the comments, this seems like a dead end. Actually, since this production method is wasting energy and there is hardly any recycling, this industry actually should never achieve widespread adoption anyway, because as it is, it is wasteful. Heated chamber certainly does not help much either. The use of carbon fiber, despite all its health issues, and all the toxic gasses with this tech, is no where close to dealt with, nor is there any demand to do so, nor any industry push for it.
