I got that Orico M.2 external enclosure. I found one drawback. It kept on disconnecting from the mac mini and would get that error removing disk banner. I tried two of them and both did the same thing. Then I bought a 10Gb enclosure and that worked just fine. I don't know what the issue was with the Orico enclosure. Any Ideas?

Great video! Question: If I get at the Apple Studio Monitor, doesn't it have a few extra Thunderbolt ports? I am wondering if I need a USB-C./ Thunderbolt hub? (although it would be nice to have an SD card reader and space for a NVme SSD. Hmm. Seems like a hub would be a cleaner solution.
@TheAppleHelpline
@TheAppleHelpline Жыл бұрын
Only one Thunderbolt port and 3 more USB-C ports. Not much of a help for things like external storage or SD card readers. The hub is still the best way to add more Thunderbolts

The problem I have is not enough usb-c ports. Don’t care about USB A need C. Even Ankers 13-1 don’t provide enough USB-C. I have connected to mine 3 external Hard drives, the other day my Mac-mini 2018 shut down two of the drives for drawing to much power. Could I take the Anker and plug a usb c hub into one of the USB-c ports and get around the power issue?
@TheAppleHelpline
@TheAppleHelpline Жыл бұрын
You might be able to. The only issue is at the end of the day the machine is aonly as good as the power and transfer speeds they were set with. You could add a USB-A hub with 12 ports and it still needs to go through that one port on the machine. It can only do so much.

You could add the sandisk usb c sd card reader to your list. I'm looking into buying that OWC thunderbolt hub, also looking at the Orico nvme enclosure, ideally one that supports a wd 4tb nvme. I already use the older orico enclosure with s samsung 980 pro 2tb that's ultra fast. At least prices have been falling on the larger nvme drives.

plugable thunderbolt 4 hubs are a less expensive option in canada. the OWC is over 300.00 in canada for some stupid reason. I use one of each version. ( one is a couple dollars cheaper) the cables are the most affordable too out of the higher quality T4 cables.

The thing with that is once you get those that’s it… you can’t upgrade or get more space. With the external stuff you can always upgrade and IF some improvements are made to the products, you might see some increases too…
