Hey guys, I just wanted to say thanks so much for clicking on this video and supporting my channel :) this is my first sit-down video and I know it isn't perfect, it took a lot longer than I thought to edit and try to perfect! It ended up being quite long, but if you want to skip to certain hikes just check the description for when they start. I would really love to hear your feedback so I can make these videos better! And yes it will be a little shorter next time, I rambled a little :D Happy Christmas Hiking!

Hi Athena, lovely video, very informative. Definitely keep making videos like these. Its good for novice hikers like me to see how many miles you hike in a day hike, how you plan your routes etc. Love the lone woman and dog hiking theme. as well. That's really encouraging for other women tp know that they can just get out there and hike and have adventures regardless of being alone. Many thanks. Have been binge watching your videos over the last few days. I also love how you seem to be outdoors mostly in colder weather and the colder or lousier weather doesn't put you off. That's different and cool!

Don't bother to come to Scotland in January if you are looking for snow, at the moment I am in my van at the ski centre car park and is 10 degrees and the wind seems is going to tip my van over. Athena, you take me back to what I did back in the 1950s before moving to NZ, What you call Hiking is tramping here. By the looks of things, tracks are mich better marked than they were in those days, most places were unmarked, I had to navigate mostly by map and compass especially when the weather closed in, Your gear is much better now, there was no Goretex for example and packs were not so compact, I had an ex army rucsac. My best wet weather gear was a Ventile anorak which kept me warm and dry in UK conditions but couldn't withstand New Zealand rain! I did a lot on Kinder Scout and Bleaklow, the Lake District Snowdonia, and the Yorkshire Moorsm the Three Peaks was a long day.

Hi Athena, just finished watching this video and I didn't find it long, it was informative, passionate and from the heart. I hope that you do continue to post videos like this one regularly to let walker's know what is available locally for them. You were asking in your summary if we had done any of the walks we should let you know. My sister and I done the exact route you took up onto Kinder Scout, it wasn't a good day for it due to heavy rain but that didn't dampen our mood or spirits and to top it off my sister who had just bought a new goretex jacket for this walk found out how good it was lol. The following week we went up onto Man Tor which was a glorious day due to sunny weather. This area is local to her jus 40 minutes drive so we have done quite a few walks in this area and you are definitely right about its beauty. I will close this comment by wishing you and your family a happy Christmas and all the best in the New Year.

I meant to comment on the earlier video when you and Harvey were up in Lustleigh Cleve, the rocky outcrop you are calling Raven's Tor is in fact Harton Chest - an understandable mistake as two of the climbing guides have also made this mistake so it's contagious. Raven's is much further along and half way between Harton and Hunters Tor it's also quite away down from the top ridge path just in the top of the woods below open moorland. You may remember how close you were to the granite boundary wall when you arrived at Harton Chest, the footpath squeezes between them at this point - maybe you could put the climbing guides to staights! Love your videos and good to see that you are in much better spirits these days compared to earlier in the year - that's quite a lot of trauma for you to deal with at your young age - you seem to have handled things admirably. Wishing you a very happy and productive new year! xx

Interesting and enjoyable as always. I intend to start walking this year, commencing with elements of the South West Coast Path, which I suppose is the most benign in terms of weather, but you have to start somewhere. I know you have been to Norway, (just wow), the Alps, Spain etc, but do you intend to hike the Trails in the US or Canada? I watch a lot of vids on those, and would be my ultimate dream. Those are the great walks for scenery and endurance ( a 1,000 miles and more). It would be fascinating to hear your views, experiences, triumphs, and troubles on those, even down to the differences in kit required.
