I love your list! I like to bring a cute notepad that I usually find at the Dollar Store or Walmart to write quick notes on throughout the day to students who turn not helpful choices into helpful ones, to students who are being leaders, etc. You can also write quick more generic notes ahead of time and then all you have to do is write the student's name on it, which can be a time saver.

I usually try to carry pencils ✏. I also bring fun band aids (crayon shaped, batman ect.) Sometimes students want to go to the nurse for a tiny paper cut so carrying them helps.

Old fashioned counter bell, small shaker egg( used in music to keep the best) stickers and the candy store closed) small plastic musicians egg and a deck of cards with 3 tricks!

I usually try to bring a motivational book to read on my breaks or a notebook to write down any ideas for an upcoming lesson

I always bring a humorous book like Dustylocks and the 3 Bears etc. I also bring sticky notes. Thanks for your list.

I would bring all of those things! I too would bring a bag of pencils to share with students. Anything to help the day go more smoothly. 🤗

I have a concern as a substitute teacher. One day I signed up to be a substitute for the P.E. teacher. Long story short, once I had been at the school for an hour, they made me drive to another school very very far away. They said I should have checked my email (which I was locked out of) because that P.E. coach teaches at the first school one Monday and another school the next Monday, and so on. I was furious, and I wrote an email to the subdesk, and I asked what would have happened if I would have gone home instead. They decided to be passive aggresive, not answer my question, and told me from now on all emails should be done through my assigned district email (I don't even remember the password). They have made me so mad, I barely work for their district at all anymore, and I just work for other districts a lot more often.

Excellent video. Preparing to substitute teach in elementary level schools. K-2 sounds like a lot of fun. I know there is a ton of work involved, but the fun aspect is important.

I once read my own choice of books from the teachers books . lesson learned never bring my own choice of reading. Most teachers want you to follow their plan . I've been a sub for over 10 years. I've never been able to do my own stuff. They usually leave extra stuff so be careful. Don't try to do your own thing I had a friend that brought her own stuff and teachers didn't like it. I did bring my own template to leave a note. Love your videos

Hi, can you please share a video about what to do if you don't have any lesson plans ??? That terrifies me, I've never been a sub before but I'll be in January and I'm very nervous,plus English is not even my native language,I have an accent , idk if the student will make fun of me and stuff

How often do you find teachers do not have any lesson plans for the entire day? Does the school essentially expect you to teach all the subjects with the class you are with for the entire day?

Thank you for this great list. I am going to be subbing, but I am also still a classroom teacher part-time (long story). Anyway, I love following you because you put together the most comprehensive lists in everything that you post. I was wondering if you have ever put together an emergency sub packet? There is a good possibility that I might need an emergency sub binder prepped. I've looked at many, but truly rely on the awesome Susan Jones. : )

I did have a parent who believed yoga was against their religion despite my purpose of sitting cross legged ( so all had their own same space at carpet) and middle finger touching thumb solely for focus purpose( as I explained to the children) …

Yoga exercise does not have to incorporate the false religion junk. It is just stretching and breathing deeply.

Yes a good reminder maybe to not word it as such, but perhaps just "now were gonna take deep breaths or stretch"
