For any comments about the thumbnail, I am wearing the same underwear as the before photo and yes my stance is different in the newer pic simply because I was feeling' myself a bit more and was happy to show my 'gains' in a pic. When I started this journey I didn't plan to make this video so I DID'NT purposefully change stance in photos to trick followers. I didn't have a before and after in the exact same pose so this is the best I had for the thumbnail! (Also i'm not a fitness blogger so I obviously didn't think about this at the time) phew!

Thanks for clarifying. I was going to comment about that because how high you wear your undies and how you pose can give an illusion of a bigger butt. It would be nice to see how your gains look in the same position. Awesome work! I'm excited to follow the rest of your journey! 😀

I lost a lot of belly bloating and fat by simply having dinner at 6pm instead of 8-9. That way my body has time to digest it by bedtime. And i also try and eat mostly veggies and legumes at dinner, instead of carbs. In the biginnig is kinda hard because i would feel hungry again by 8. But after two weeks my body got used to it. I also sleep much much better since my body isnt digesting heavy meals all night. Its also so nice being done with dinner at 6 and not having to worry about it, and having the evening to just relax. Try it! Its honestly amazing.

If you have to eat late, try eating easier to digest foods and foods that don't cause inflammation. Also try food prepping (if you don't already), so that all you have to do is warm your food up right away when you get home.

Yes everything that you have said I can say is very true coming from someone who used to live for working out being slim and fit. It really works. I had a lot of weight when I first started my weight loss journey and all the things that you have mentioned and in no time at all dropped the weight and to my surprise lost all the fat and bloating around my stomach area. For the first time ever after having my daughter 8 yrs primer I had not one inch of fat and it was just doing those things and some cardio in the gym. And yes my body really felt better for it. People please believe what this lady is saying to be true I swear by it. Go on try it for yourselves and see the affects, good luck with it👍🏽🙂 and thank you for your input/ great advice😘

I was struggling on the ab area as well and I was doing A LOT of ab workouts. So a friend told me to learn how to engage the core while I lift with every exercise and omg I almost immediately saw a difference. There’s tons of YT videos on how to do this, and breathing is also important. I hope it helps!
@RedtoToes6 жыл бұрын
Natalie Arce this is actually the base of ab workout! but there is so little spread about it somehow. I’m physical therapist specialized in Abdominal-pelvic area, and I get so many people who come from gyms or other practices that increase abdominal pressure (which increases belly size and pelvic floor weakness) so indeed breathing-position-and engagement + hipopressive exercice is the best for abs. It will show in no time, and it’s overall very healthy for posture, back and circulation. So nice to see your comment :) thanks for sharing! Xx

I'm a weightlifter and don't ever drink protein shakes. I will sometimes have a bar if I won't be able to eat anything else for a while simply so I don't get overly hungry but as long as you get enough protein in the whole day from beans, nuts, eggs, meat etc you don't necessarily need to supplement it with shakes. Getting enough protein helps you recover but as does staying hydrated, stretching, myofascial release (foam rolling or massage), sleep and just generally eating enough food. Also as a new gym goer if you are looking to build muscle and lose fat your best bet is probably to eat at maintenance. Then when you've been going a while and feel like you're not seeing progress think about a deficit or a surplus.

As someone who's been on their own fitness journey I can say from my own experience it's taken me a good 10 months before the results started to be more noticeable. I'm quite overweight so I've been doing weights and cardio - for weight training I really needed help because I didn't know what to do so I started seeing a personal trainer 2x a week and she has been such a tremendous help for me. For cardio I take cycling classes 2-3x a week and it's the only cardio that I enjoy that isn't too hard on my ankles because they are in shambles from prior injuries. I'm not very disciplined with my diet and I know if I was I would have much better results. As far as your protein/diet questions go, for gains you need to be eating a lot more protein and it will be difficult to eat enough because protein makes you feel so much fuller. As for when you should be having a protein shake it's best to have them either first thing in the morning, last thing at night or after every weight training session. Protein is super important when you're trying to add muscles so (as someone who's not a personal trainer but has been working with one for almost a year and has learned a lot in that time) I would suggest having at least one protein shake a day. I had my most rapid success when I was having two a day - if you don't like the flavor of your protein powder or get bored with it I would recommend getting vanilla or unflavored powder and then mixing it with other things in a smoothie and then if you do that it's more of a meal replacement. I'm sure you already know this and it might be difficult with your lifestyle but it's also best to eat smaller meals more frequently throughout the day and this is something I struggle with a lot - my PT recommends six small meals a day but I'm lucky if I get four. Last thing since I've rambled a lot - you should be eating as soon as you can after any sort of workout because you're still going to be burning more calories right after a workout and especially for protein it helps with recovery when you eat sooner after a workout. Hope some of that helps and thanks for sharing Sam!!! 💕 from Kansas

I loooove this video, specially considering the video you made talking about you overcoming your eating disorder. I believe now a days, being fit is sometimes promoted as the new trend, so more often than not, you end up seeing people who follow crazy routines, super strict diets, always unhappy with their appearance and always following the next fitness trend, and that's when you start seeing content that is not genuine anymore. What i absolutely adore about this video is that it is not about crazy routines and extreme diets. It's not about discounts and magic tricks and strict diets. It's a real, genuine video that talks openly about a journey, creating awareness that this journey might actually be different for everybody. This is a journey in which you do see results, and celebrate them and share them with your community, but is not an obsession, and you don't pretend like it's always pastel pink. Just wanted to say that because for me, your video has been of huge inspiration. :)

I loved watching this video not only its great to see you feeling happy and motivated on your health journey but to actually speak so openly about every little thing you are doing and being so honest about it all. I think its amazing to see women who are inspiring others and giving tips. I had a baby 7 months ago and have struggled to lose "baby weight" its like what you were saying I wasn't seeing the results that fast so I kept giving up the gym. Now I am realising it will take time and I have to be patient so I am defiantly returning back to exercising and just giving it time to see some great results. I think we are all forgetting at times how amazing our bodies are in everything it does and how we grow a human being and give it life. Great video xx

hi Sammi I was wondering how you manage to keep up your fitness routine whilst recovering from your eating disorder? I am pretty much recovered from mine and I would like to get into shape and become stronger and fitter but everytime I get into it I find it so hard to not slip back into old bad ED habits and become obsessive over it becaue excercise is a big trigger for me

Keep going Sammi, I’m at the same stage as you. I’m fairly new to weight training and can’t see much of a difference in the mirror (or pics tbh) but I can feel that my body has so much more muscle. When I shower, my skin isn’t as ‘squishy’ there’s muscle there pushing back; particularly my lower body and biceps. I know how you feel about being impatient but you have to remember that your current body took years to be the shape it is today so you’re not going to suddenly reshape it in a few months. Some fitness KZbinrs I watch for inspo are Florina Fitness (she has very good booty building advice), Britney Lesser (recovered from undereating and has competed in body building shows) and Natacha Oceane (a fab London based youtuber who again, has recovered from undereating and built such a strong, athletic body. She refers to scientific papers and is just awesome and so credible.) oh and Bret Contreras is also worth a google, he has a PhD in growing glutes. 😀

Even just sitting on that chair your butt looks amazing, girl! Just keep in mind it takes like 10 days for your muscles to fully recover after a single workout, so it takes 10 days to really see the result of your work (even though sometimes you can see a glimpse from the get go). Keep at it! I'm on the same journey too, and I'm so happy you're doing it in a healthy wholesome way. Another thing that keeps me motivated is just keeping in mind how good working out is for my mental health, and how great and confident I feel afterwards. I never regret going to the gym, even if I was dreading it before going lol. I'm really proud of you and thank you for sharing, seeing your progress and your view on it is really inspiring! I weight train and don't usually drink protein after, I just eat loads of veg and nuts. On heavy leg days I'll put unflavoured pea protein into a smoothie. I think overall nutrition - getting in micro nutrients is a better focus that hitting macros - carbs/fats/protein every time. Also my tummy is like yours (have 5 month old baby) and I've been working on my transverse - helps to do things with a ball between thighs and squeeze it really hard while doing ab excercises, helps to activate lower abs and always remember to squeeze belly button towards your back, pull in and lengthen your spine if you do that going about your normal day to day life outside of gym too it will really help activate them and gives better posture too. Difficult to remember to do but works!

Please do post more about it Sammi! I’ve wanted to do proper weight training for a while but whenever I’ve gone into that section in the gym men stare. As in “what’s a woman doing in here” as opposed to pervy tbh. That’s what a lot of female friends I’ve spoken to about it feel like as well. It’s intimidating. I think I’m going to get a PT to show me what to do so I feel a bit more confident. Once I know exactly what I’m doing then I don’t care what people think. Would be great to see what you do. I’m so glad you’re finding it empowering. You look amazing.

Sammi, if you haven't watched Natacha Oceane's videos yet, you should, she really breaks down nutrition and workouts for cutting/bulking. As for bloating, my partner and I have recently cut down significantly on our oil use, and we've noticed a BIG difference. Not only do we look less bloated but we feel so much better! It's not that we avoid oil altogether, we just don't use it when it's not necessary. You should definitely look into some tips on oil-free cooking and give it a try. Also remember that if you're eating a lot of whole grains and veggies, you'll naturally be more bloated because those take longer for the body to digest.

Congrats on your fitness journey! I started 1 year and 4 months ago. I totally get those lull moments when you think your not making progress. But trust me you are! Around my 1 year mark is when I started seeing the results I was really looking for. It's a long haul goal. I dont take any supplements or protein powders. I eat my protein in eggs, fish, chicken and red meat. I work out rigorously 4 to 5 days a week. Still love my wine and sweets just balance. I do a split focusing on groups of muscles. Add HIIT training twice a week. When I started all I wanted to do was grow my bum. Then I realized it will grow with time training and food. Now I enjoy each muscle group and getting stronger all over. I look forward to seeing your progress in strength and overall body positivity for yourself!

Once I started doing interval training as opposed to a straight up cardio session, my stomach tightened right up . So I’ll do this outside or at the gym, run as fast as I can for 2 minutes and walk slow for 1 minute so my heart rate recovers and I’ll do that for as long as I can for about 3 miles. It also tightened my arms up a lot (prob bc of sprinting motion) and I’ve also found, if I cut out complex carbs, I have zero bloat. So no white starches, or sugar and no bread. That def helps me! ☺️

Yes abs are made in the kitchen but if u really want to see ur stomach tighten and loose the excess then u do need to incorporate a bit more cardio and abb workouts. Great video!! I’ve been weight training for 3 years now and noticed huge change after 2 years as I’ve now created muscle memory so if you have time off you’ll keep your muscle memory and maintain your strength! I found doing 2 powerlifting sessions a week gave me a huge mental release also! Upping PBs and testing your 1 rep max every 3 months or so to see how your strength has improved as opposed to just physical change! I personally drink BCAA like juice as it helps with muscle mass! Keep going girl! Strong is great and you’re looking amazing! Defiantly need more of you girls out there!

For muscle gain you're best of having a high rep range and low weight, 3-5 x 12-15 reps with things like bulgarian split squats, hip thrusts and walking lunges (regular squats are more of a quad based movement) and I'd really suggest adding deadlifts/RDL's and good mornings into your workout as they involve the whole posterior chain (hamstrings, lower back and glutes) more than squats themselves. Bodybuilding.com is good for YT videos on specific exercises. It's nice to see YT'ers doing weight training instead of just "spin" all the time. Good luck! :D x

You look incredible!! I started lifting weights about two years ago, with help from my boyfriend, and it's so great! It can make you feel so good about yourself, and I find it so empowering, especially as a woman. It has really helped with my self esteem and mental health to lift!! I ALWAYS have protein after a weight lifting workout. Cardio, not so much. But protein is so important to have after a workout because it helps so much with your muscles properly rebuilding themselves. I'll just make a protein shake (literally just protein powder and water sometimes if I'm really lazy and not hungry), but I'll also try to throw in some glutamine, which helps with soreness! With bloating, the main thing is to drink tons of water and avoid too much sodium. Cardio is the best way to burn fat, just running or walking on the treadmill for 30 minutes or so. I'll put the treadmill on a higher speed and do a sprint for like 30-45 seconds, and then hop off of it and stand to rest for 15-30, or if I'm really not in the mood, I'll put the treadmill on a high incline and just walk for 30 minutes! Cardio is the BEST way to burn the fat away that will expose those abs you're working on!

Sam- I am so PUMPED that you did this video! I love seeing someone talk about fitness and weight lifting in a different way than other fitness persons. Also a note about bloat- it’s often times food/digestion related. That’s may be something that you want to take note of when you are feeling bloated is take inventory about what you ate that day and see if there is a pattern. Another this is posture really effects how that lower belly region looks. If you wanted to do some research on “anterior pelvic tilt” and see what you think, I think you might find some helpful tools. Best of luck! You are so fabulous and wonderful. I love your videos XO

Hey Sam, I'm so glad you shared your fitness journey. I've been on my for a few years now and it can be very confusing with all the information out there. I've found that it's really trial and error because everyone's body is different. I would try something or make an adjustment and see how my body responded in about 2-3 weeks and if it worked I stuck with it until it was time to make another adjustment and if it didn't work just tried something else. My goal was to put on muscle and lose fat, have a nice round butt. My diet played a huge role in getting results, it does for everyone. Recently I've been doing intermittent fasting to help lose fat but put on muscle. I've only been doing it for a month but have seen really good results so far. My little stomach pooch is starting to go down and I'm starting to look leaner. I do the 16:8 method. Please look into, there are some great people here on KZbin that discuss and explain how it works. I think it might be worth a try for you, at least for a month to see how your body responds. Let me know how it goes and keep up the good work girl, you look so good

Hi! I’m really into weight training as well, I’ve been into it for roughly a year and a half and have done a lot of research into nutrition as well! I think you’d find it most useful to keep your protein intake as high as possible to build the muscle (consider eating something protein based with every meal) and make the majority of your carbohydrates complex carbs. The body turns complex carbs (healthy grains: quinoa, brown rice, oats, barley) into energy more efficiently than white carbs (white bread, white pasta, white rice etc) these are turned into sugar which spikes your insulin levels the same way an energy drink or chocolate bar would. Therefore your body can process these healthier carbs and benefit from the nutrients in them much more. They will also keep you fuller for longer and fuel your workouts. I think this would help you notice fat loss (obviously I don’t know if you’re already trying this or not) so it’s just a suggestion! It’s also a good tip to eat all food groups in similar quantities when you start weight training, carbs are as essential as protein and fruit and veg! To lose fat in general you need to be in a caloric deficit (so you’re burning more calories than what you’re eating per day) however it’s important when training heavily to keep your body nourished and not take this too far! You may find the “my fitness pal” app really useful, I used to it start with to get an idea of what I was burning and what I was consuming, however don’t get wrapped up in it, just use it as a guide for a couple of weeks if you want to! All the best xxx

Omg i felt the same about the macro obsession! It stressed me out too much and i am shaped the same as you and found it very difficult to find info on what to do if I’m trying to lose but also gain at once! As for belly fat a fitness girl i follow on instagram did a live chat on building abs and losing muscle fat and what not and suggested that if you’re a person who carries more fat on your stomach you would need to up your cardio. I am going to try it out and see how it goes for me as i would like to build a butt and lose some stomach/boob fat! I think making sure you have the correct amount of protein especially on leg/glute day should help to build that muscle while shedding fat.

You are always so inspiring!!!! It's sometimes quite intimidating to go to the weight area because I'm just not sure if I'm doing it right... do you have a personal trainer? Or how do you learn how to lift?

I started a Keto diet just over a week ago and have noticed my stomach bloating has gone down significantly. Maybe it's down to cutting out gluten, worth a shot?

I find if I finish my gym session that is close to a meal time I would skip the protein shake and eat the protein component. Liquid protein absorbs faster that’s why you may hear to drink it within 15 minutes after a work out. But I think in the end it does the same thing whether you opt for a meal or a shake. Hope this helps.

Sammi please post more videos about your workout routine, especially your ab journey! I just started working out after having a baby in April, and I’d love to lose the extra baby fat and also get that booty right 😼 good for you Sammi, it’s so inspiring watching you conquer your goals.

What helped me with bloating is staying away from fatty foods (animal fats), sugar and white carbs. Before that I used to be bloated all the time. I also discovered that I'm lactose intolerant. After having one cup of milk I'd bloat and look 3 months pregnant. Maybe you could look into that as well. Your journey is coming along very well. Keep us posted.

Have you ever checked yourself for diastasis recti? It’s ab separation that doesn’t heal after giving birth and it can give the appearance of a bloated stomach. There are exercises for the transverse abdominals to help heal the separation which causes the bulging! I am in the same boat as you. But you look fabulous as you are 🖤

Honestly it’s SO NICE to see a workout video from someone who doesn’t have a “perfect” fitness model body. Obviously she looks amazing, but it so much more inspiring to see someone who is still working towards their goal instead of someone who has been working out for 5+ years. Their bodies always seem so unattainable.

Hi Sammi, you talked about Apple Cider Vinegar. How to you consume it every day? Are you adding it to you breakfast or you swallow it on its own 😖?
@lourdesardenghi78386 жыл бұрын
Hey Sammi! I wanted to tell you a couple of things I know about eating habits from going to a nutritionist. The most important things to do are to eat balanced, regularly and the right amount. its recommended to eat every 2 hours so snaking good things is key. Also try eating your cabs at lunch and only eat protein and vegetables for dinner. If you are trying to build muscle you HAVE to eat protein. and don't forget to eat before and after your workout sense you are burning you body's fuel. AND KEEP IT UP I've been on this journey for almost a year and I'm not where I was hoping but my lifestyle has improved so much that I don't let myself feel down about it.

Sammi! Check out information on diastasis recti. Super common after pregnancy from your abs separating to accommodate your baby. It’s quite possible that’s what you’re experiencing.

I love this video! Definitely agree that tracking macros puts away your focus.. for me even gets me a bit unmotivated about gym time. Always been on and off. Few months ago I tried to eat what´s based on my daily intake and payed attention to carbs/fats/protein. But I lost motivation soooo fast 😳 So this video actualy gave me some perspective that I should take different approach about my "gym journey" and that it´s okay not to do it as everyone else! and to listen to my body...I mean if my body says "chocolate" every weekend, I can turn it down a notch 😂 But thanks Sammy! for always keeping it real ❤️

You’re doing amazing! I had a baby a month before you and started weight training about 8 months ago, so I can totally relate to everything you’re saying! I actually find my best move for bringing the abs back in after having a baby has been regular planks. All the traditional moves seem to make my abs stick out, if that makes any sense! Planks are key and I’m seeing great results with them!

Hey Sam, loved this video!!! For fat burning vs muscle building, you can really only do one at a time. To build muscle you need to be in a calorie surplus and to burn fat you need to be in a calorie deficit. So its not really possible to do both at the same time, although it is never 100% one or the other because our bodies don't function in black and white terms like that. I'd suggest building muscle first and then transitioning into fat burning. You could also try intermittent fasting which really helps for fat burning and is quite good for you (and may help with bloating) because it teaches your body to recycle what it already has (stored energy, ie. fat) instead of always using the energy its given from food. (just graduated with a B. Kinesiology)

If you have trouble with bloating I highly recommend a waist slimmer belt. I have a super cheap one that was 6 us dollars. It's not a corset or waist training, what it does it makes you really sweat in your midsection which I feel has really helped flatten my stomach. I'm currently on a fitness journey and I've weighted the weight I'm at now but my stomach has never been this flat and I atribute it to that belt 😊

Hi sammi! About the bloat if you cut out wheat & flour (a.k.a gluten) or even cut down I guarantee the bloat will go down significantly. Our bodies do not digest these gmo wheats and products. I know sprouted wheat breads and omega breads don’t cause bloat. Loved all your vlogust videos!
@jayandthejourney6 жыл бұрын
First of all, well done Sammi! You're progressing, eating healthy foods and making gainzzz so don't worry about how slow or fast it may happen. Everyone's body is different. I'm pregnant with my 2nd child now (I'm almost 27) and before this pregnancy I was squatting about 100kg+ and overall lifting heavy (I will be again after I have this baby) I've realised after a baby especially it's harder to gain muscle sometimes. When you start slowly lifting heavier you'll see a lot more growth in your glutes and the areas you are targeting. I must say sometimes your abs will never be the same as before pregnancy but it's not impossible to get to the point you want to get at. Gluten bloats a lot of people and certain other foods so maybe look into those. Sorry that this is so long. I'm vegan by the way 😊 I have a lot more to say but don't want to make this too long lool. Carry on, you're doing great! x

For bloating peppermint tea/capsules can definitely help! Protein powders can be a great boost of protein after any workout but are definitely not essential if you are eating a good amount of protein throughout your meals (eggs, seafood, beans/pulses etc) x

Hi Sam I get what you mean about holding bloat in your stomach after having a baby. That happened to me after I had my son, I’ve always been tiny but since having him my stomach has changed a lot. It’s a struggle but working out makes me feel so much better. You look beautiful, keep it up!!!

Love this video!! I'm in a very similar boat too, started weight training nearly a year ago but for the first 6 months I was so confused as I also wanted to lose fat but build muscle and didn't know what this meant in terms of food and what I should be eating. I saw some small changes at first like some fat loss and some booty growth as well as getting stronger. But then I spoke to a nutritionist at the gym who advised me to focus on one goal at a time, which meant losing fat first (calorie deficit) then once I'm happy with how much fat I've lost then change to calorie surplus to build muscle. Once I knew what I had to do everything else seemed to make so much more sense and like you said, you just have to be patient. I'm still in a calorie deficit at the moment (but I've still managed to make some booty growth) as theres more fat that I want to lose but once I've reached that goal (or close enough) I plan to start eating enough to make 'big gains' 😂. I don't know if this comment was pointless or not but anyway I just wanted to say, love it! xx

Love this video sam!!! You look so great, honey!! For your belly, I’ve noticed if I drink a good amount of water during the day and a large amount of greens, it flushed the bloat out of me. Also for your belly, plank exercises are really great for working the entire abdominal region. If you’re ever looking for a quick ab video, blogilates has so many and they all burn so bad. Keep going girl! I’m so happy for you
