Giving you a tour of my one bedroom, one bath, 636 square foot apartment in Wilmington, NC. Hopefully this gives you some decorating ideas and some insight on what you can expect if you're looking to live in this area! My apartment comes with a dishwasher, full sized washer and dryer in unit, ice maker, balcony, walk-in closet, and tons of amenities like a full gym, pool, package room, dog park, free parking and more. My rent is currently $1,328 a month, which is on the lower side of average for this area right now. (This area is growing quickly, however, so the prices will likely continue going up over the next few years. For reference, when I first moved here at the end of 2021, my rent in this same apartment was $950/month! Keep that in mind if you're considering moving to Wilmington!!)

I love your place! I watch all your videos but I enjoyed getting to see a full tour. We have very similar decor styles I realized our apartments kinda look the same 😂 I live in Raleigh, NC and I lived by myself for a year before I moved in with my sister to our current place but paid roughly about what you pay in Wilmington! Our current place is around $1900 for a 2 bed 2 bath 1300 sqft apartment. We’re actually hoping to move to the beach next and are considering either Wilmington or Charleston so this was great to see!!

During the pandemic our rent went up a whopping $1k lol but our landlord is pretty lax especially because we have a a pitbull and german shepherd 🙃 my bf and i are wanting to move out but rent is outrageous. congratulations being able to do this stuff by yourself, huge accomplishment 👏

I love your apt!! Looks great! That’s a cheaper price than the Charlotte area where I am. My daughter & her bf pay around $1500 for their 1 bd/1 bath apt with the same kind of amenities. However- a LOT cheaper than where we’re from in Jersey… things are NUTS up there. Anyway looks great & I love it… super cozy & “home-y” ❤

OMG I can't believe your rent went up over $400! I'm currently in TX and the market is the same right now with price increases. After graduate school I plan on moving to a smaller/ town or suburb on the East coast so that I can save on housing Costa and maximize my income.

But I hate that everything is going up so fast. It's scary, especially when you live alone and don't have anyone to help split costs with.

Thank you! Honestly, no, it's extremely easy to make friends here, because even though there's a lot of people here and a lot to do, it still has a small town vibe and everyone is really friendly. I tend to run into the same people a lot and have found that everyone seems to know each other and be connected somehow. I suggest looking up "Laurensuitcase", "things to do in wilmington", and "whats up wilmington" on instagram to discover places to check out, things to do, etc. I love it here so much and I'm sure you will too! :)

It's a little bit trickier if you're looking to rent privately, but if you're looking for an apartment complex, just search "apartment complex in X" and from there, I would look at each company's website to view their floorplans and availability. You can also try looking on apartments.com. Either way, make sure you read tons of reviews across multiple websites, and call them and ask if there's anyway you can do a virtual tour over facetime or something, if you can't go view the place in person first.

Looks really cosy while still being bright ❤, I live in a one bed and it’s so hard to fit everything without feeling cluttered. Is it normal in the US for landlords to be pet friendly? I’m in England and if you rent, the overwhelming majority of private landlords are strictly no pets

On average, I think most of the US is pretty pet friendly, but they usually will charge you an extra fee. Sometimes they will have certain restrictions based on breed and/or weight though. It really just depends.

So weird!! This is the first time I heard anything about that, so I just tried it out with a few other people’s videos, and it’s doing the same for me, but only on certain videos. It’s giving me 1080p as a free option, but then there’s “1080p premium” that then prompts me to pay. I don’t know what the difference is or why they’re doing that. I didn’t change anything on my end or agree to that. 😖

$1300 for a 1 bed 1 bath apartment?? I live in Charleston South Carolina (well 20 miles from downtown) and pay that for a 4 bedroom/2 bath HOUSE on a cul de sac. 6 foot privacy fence for my dogs and huge backyard, vaulted ceilings, garage and 10 mins from everything in my beautiful town of Summerville. We have beautiful beaches and 75-80 degree weather 8 months a year. Now if you want to live at the beach or downtown 30 mins from me you will pay $2500 for a 3 bedroom 2 bath apartment.

That's good to know and sounds like a beautiful place that I'd love to settle down in! But for now, I love where I am, no more than 10-15 minutes to everything, including downtown and the beach, and a shorter driving distance to my family up north :)

Do you ever feel like you are wasting money on an apartment instead of getting a house ? I want to save up and get out on my own but I feel like it would be worth trying to save up for a house instead of getting an apartment but at the same time I’m just ready to be out on my own😭

Absolutely not. A house comes with a lot of commitment and responsibility. Yes, of course I want to own a home in the future, but when I moved here last year, I was completely brand new to the area. I didn't know what the best neighborhoods were or if I even wanted to stay here after the first year. And because I'm on my own, I really don't want to deal with the maintenance of a house right now. I love the amenities that come with my apartment and the security in knowing that I can have maintenance come fix anything at any time, at no extra cost. But you have to consider what makes the most sense for you right now. If you know you're going to stay in the same area for a while, then it might make more sense to buy a house.
