This was incredible fun to play in. Shuffling my sideboard for Compleated Chrome Shell was one of the most surreal moments I've had in a game of Magic. My only regret is the one time I was able to play Soul of Mirrodin, my opponent scooped before I could activate it. Thanks again for giving us such wonderfully ridiculous cards to play with.

Hey Gavin! That event on Saturday was absolutely the most fun I had all weekend. I had a blast with the cards you made. Being able to play a Mox Poison was super cool (even though it did lead to my death that game, haha)! Mox Poison: Hugely fun and risky in this limited environment. I would be interested to see an adjustment like: T: Add 1 mana of any color. You get 3 poison counters. Then a separate static ability: At the beginning of your end step, if you have any poison counters, add one poison counter. Join the Winning Team: This card won me my final game thanks to it targeting planeswalkers. Love that addition since in limited playing against a planeswalker can be demoralizing, but this card gives the other person a fighting chance. Again, thank you so much for running this event, I’d love to play something like it again in the future!

I remember that someone next to me got sort of __ and __ and I was shocked. It was really cool to discover the other play test cards as I played against others. For example during my last round, I overheard someone next to me cast Mox Poison and I was so surprised, then in game 2 for that round my opponent casted Mox Poison. Overall it was a great event, it felt familiar having a strong influence from Phyrexia: All Will Be One but also felt original and new with all the playtest cards. Also the Sort of __ and __ is something that I can see working for Alchemy as a sort of build-a-sword card

This event was a lot of fun, I hope you do more like it! Don't think I'll be able to make it to Minneapolis for whatever you do there, but I'm sure it'll be similarly clever. (My personal highlight was opening a Blightsteel Colossus in the List slot of the one Phyrexia set booster in my pool. Seems fitting since I was assigned the Phyrexia team. Of course, I then went on to misread Soul of Mirrodin and put it in my deck thinking it was a valid target... should've left it in my sideboard for Compleated Clone Shell to maybe hit.)

I absolutely loved this event, it was one of the many highlights of my MagicCon experience. All the wacky playtest cards were incredibly fun, especially when I would just overhear stuff about ones I had never seen, like someone the game next to me saying “ok, so neither of us can win or lose the game until this guy leaves the battlefield” or some guy in line talking about how their friend pulled a card named “Rosewater’s Menace” and got Mark to sign it. I unfortunately didn’t get any super wacky plays, but getting to Oil Scavenge 4 oil counters onto my Hound of Urabrask was a great way to win one of my games. The next time I head to a MagicCon, count me in for more Unknown!

I'd like to see something like the Mox Poison explored further. Mana now, but at a real cost seems like some underexplored design space (possibly because of how dangerous it is). Maybe something more along the lines of taking real damage and poison counters would be more realistically balanced. I could also see a get ahead now concept - but at what cost? - where it's actually a land that produces more than 1 mana but does something like phasing out, returning to hand, or sacrificing itself/other lands (I know there's lands that do all of the mentioned, just giving some examples).
@DavidGreeneMtgJudge Жыл бұрын
Edit: I'm mistaken because of how we apply added steps and phases. Even with this card, you complete the effects in the order they are written, which means that you'll apply the added steps from most recently created to last (reverse order.) @6:00 no, you perform the effects on a card in the order they are written. See rules 608.2c and 702.42b.
@GoodMorningMagic Жыл бұрын
You do the effects in the order they're written, but when it comes to taking additional steps the last one you take happens first. So if you entwine it, the last one applies first. Hence the order.
@DavidGreeneMtgJudge Жыл бұрын
@@GoodMorningMagic ah, yeah. I hadn't even considered the addition of steps from the effect. You add them on in order, but apply them with the most recently created one first. My mistake.

“Then Dreadmaws ate” is now officially a card, yes it is, you won’t tell me it isn’t haha. Also Soul of Mirrodin is actually a really good card I think, a sort of Win con with enough artifacts in the deck, because it puts it in play at instant speed. Then I particularly like the Mox Poison. It’s one of those cards where you can really feel the draw back sneaking up, 2 poison is 20% to death, but having a free ramp is not to underestimate. I’d have tried it as a side board if my opponent didn’t play proliferate or poison

Poison Tolerance is definitely something that could have made it into ONE. Toxic is already a much less degenerate keyword than infect, but as I thought we learned in Kaldheim, a single hate card (especially when it's not colorless) against a mechanic that can easily be oppressive isn't enough. It can't possibly be enough.

There needs to be something like 'no more headcanons' or 'canonical story'. Sorcery, maybe xxx WUBRG and it reads 'take control of X nonland permanents that make more sense on your side, call a Dev team member to decide if players are unsure'. Similarly 'death to traitors' which would be cheaper and either nuke all nlps that don't make sense or a number (I suppose X or xx would be enough).

Wait, hold on, why would you resolve untap upleep draw by going backwards? cards with several effects within the same one tend to resolve in order printed no? (tooth and nail for example, has the "search for creatures" first, then the "put creatures on the field" second)
@snackplaylove Жыл бұрын
I think each choice is a separate effect and so FILO does that for you. Have a feeling this mattered with one of the commands but I’m old and I’m not sure 😂 Ed: oh - Gavin explained better further down.
@Metallicity Жыл бұрын
I'm surprised the rules can't handle "artifact creatures that weren't originally artifact creatures", since Sunburst, another mechanic originating from Mirrodin, can correctly check if a card was originally a creature or not (to determine if it should get +1/+1 counters or charge counters): "If this object is entering the battlefield as a creature, ignoring any type-changing effects that would affect it, it enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it for each color of mana spent to cast it. Otherwise, it enters the battlefield with a charge counter on it for each color of mana spent to cast it."
