For laminar flow surely you'd be better off stacking corrugated cardboard sheets 6" in front of the filter to actually break it up into tubes. At least gets it working somewhat near in one corner

i'm no expert, just going around looking at DIY flow hoods. it doesn't look like it's built wrong from what i've seen but the flame demonstration doesn't look like the flow is laminar. maybe need to adjust the cfm on that fan or try it with a bbq lighter instead? 🤷‍♂️ hope it works for you

Lots of things wrong here. The filter looks completely wrong, and porous surfaces. Also there’s a gap under the cabinet which will allow foreign particles into the treated work area. Luckily you can gather the right filter and smaller computer fan to properly produce laminar flow. You can get rid of the gap under the box by removing those feet or strips under it. Seal all the gaps around the box and work area and you could go an extra measure and put plexiglass shields around the top and sides. Like that other guy said you want your flame to bend at a 45 degree angle and not blow out. I’m not trying to bust your balls or be a big shot but am only tying to help you improve on your impressive design and work. ✌️

Just because you have filtered air coming out the front , does not make it laminar flow . Guaranteed , that , in its current configuration is not laminar flow . For one your airflow is too strong and threfore turbulent . You may be able to achieve laminar flow by putting a fan speed controller on the unit . If it were laminar flow , the flame on the lighter should only be bent over at about a 45 ° angle and not wave/wiggle in the airflow at all . Another thing to consider is that even if it was laminar flow , only about 30-40% of the air column is true laminar flow . Even on a genuine laminar flow hood the only part of the air column that is truly laminar flow is the central area of the air column . With the low profile of that filter even if it were laminar flow , the only laminar airspace would be just a couple of inches in the center of the column . Imo you would be closer to your goal with a smaller fan and a taller filter . Just sayin

Fail. That flame shouldn’t be going out. Look up what laminar flow actually is because there’s more to it than just a filter. You have to get the fan speed just right and this is NOT it
