I started producing at 16, have been for about half a year now, and my main worry is that I'm moving too slow with my learning and not learning enough stuff, that i'm missing so many things that will later harm me and prevent me from making good music. It's a stupid worry, but this video has helped me a bit to realise that it takes a long time to be able to make good music and taking a shortcut is not really an option do you have any other suggestions though for what could help me with this haha

I've been producing for almost two years now, it's a lengthy process.. There are plenty of ups and downs, sometimes you feel like you've understood all of the key elements you've been missing just to find yourself bashing your head against the wall a week later. I also felt like I was moving too slow a year ago, don't sweat it tho. Expect at least a year to get comfortable with your daw and then maybe another year to start getting good. Everybody moves at their own pace... Also I have a fellow artist friend who gave me these tips I've found really helpful! 1. Find & Download project files from the DAW you use, study them as many times as you need, come back to them later. 2. Learn Music theory basics, this will help you more than you think, you don't have to memorize it all but writing notes down can help and you can always reference it later. 3. Don't try to reinvent the wheel, focus on getting really good a techniques that already exist. You have to master the ''rules'' before you break them. 4. Focus on sound selection as well, mixing becomes very difficult if you have to constantly ''fix'' sounds. 5. don't be afraid to use sample packs! There are plenty of free good ones out there! You just have to dig a bit (I suggest browsing on reddit)

@@speakeazy250 thanks so much this is such a great response!!! This helps a ton thanks for putting the time into such a meaningful response. I feel like along with the moving slow i get impatient and skip over a lot of things that I really shouldn't be, but the thing is i don't know what they are because i'm skipping over them haha. But at least i'm aware of it, i just have to find a good progression method. Thanks again for all the tips i'll be sure to learn them all (:

@@sedspeedruns I feel you! I skipped over music theory for the longest time because I thought it was too complicated. Turns out it isn’t so hard once you get the ball rolling. I would suggest just listen to your gut. If you feel like a certain aspect of your music production is behind the others, take the time to learn more about that topic and get better at it!

How much time did you probably invest in producing music in all this years? Do you have an idea how many hours per week? I would really like to be able to estimate who much time is needed to reach a good level, starting from zero (but with instrument skills)...
@Akayo_Music
@Akayo_Music 2 ай бұрын
Anywhere from 1-7 hours every day (depending on what I was doing during that day), not counting 2015 and 2016 because it was on my 3DS for fun lol. They say you have to put in 10,000 hours for you to master a skill. You already have instrument skills, so that will definitely accelerate the journey!
