My theory of why it's so much easier in college is that they're dealing with adults as opposed to minors. So, if you say you need something and can prove it with a doctor's note or documentation, they just believe you instead of questioning every little thing because they can. It probably also has to do with funding since public schools only have so much money. I've heard people still get hassled and refused by professors in college, but it's still easier because you can work around them. And, worst case scenario, you can usually drop the class and avoid them

I’m legally blind I’m not even able or allowed to have a driver‘s license. I did one semester of community college and could not keep up with the reading material even with the accommodations by the time students would be on chapter 10 or 12 in a textbook I would still be on chapter 2 or three. This discouraged me and I dropped out . So how the hell do you navigate that and don’t tell me audiobooks because literally sitting down and listening to audiobooks takes even longer than reading. So what’s the solution can u give me ideas ? I want to go back to school but I can’t keep up with material , I want to get a good job make my family proud but all I am is a stress and burden on my family 🤦♂️

I just got something called a Scanmarker Air. It lets me read regular books at a reasonable pace. I’m also buying digital copies of my text books and will use the screen reader on my computer to read them.

Great video! I have a question though regarding Zenith- for those really long exams, do you bring him with you? Do you have any accommodations to give him a break? I'm getting a service dog soon and my exams in college are often also four hours long.

I bring him. I have my exams in a small private room with a door that closes, so I let him walk around the room while I'm taking the exam. Every once in a while he gets up and changes his position, changes where he's laying, or asks me to pet him for a little. Since there's no one else in the room, I allow this. I have considered bringing a Kong for him (I think it would be allowed because I am allowed to bring food for myself, and again no one other than me is in the room, so he wouldn't be distracting anyone else), but I haven't because I'm not sure if I'd be able to focus as well with the constant squeaky chewing sound of the Kong. But that could be something to consider asking about. I get breaks as needed during the exam, so I always make sure to go to the bathroom in the middle of the exam, and I usually use that time to give him some attention and let him walk around a little. I've never had a problem. You could always try going to the library or something for 4 hours to see how your dog does with it. I had a 3 hour class last semester, and he was fine. He's also used to laying through shows because I really like musicals and plays. And we've done two 7 hour flights. If you're not sure, I would try it out ahead of time so you don't have any added stress during the exam, but your dog should be fine! Good luck with your new dog!!
