Having a pure drive I had to learn how to hit flat balls as I used the pure aero before and every shot had topspin. It was really frustrating in the beginning as I was struggling to control the bal but the more I played with it the more I love the pure drive and I think its only going to make me a better player in the long run as I find its easier to go for winners with a pure drive than a pure aero in my opinion. Thanks for your thoughts Simon much appreciated. And as always Beckett keep up the amazing reviews I have loved watching your videos in 2024 and I wish you a great 2025 🎉

I remember when Pure Drives were the hot "new racket" getting buzz in the early 2000s when a couple guys on my varsity team started using them. Everyone was like "yea these feel like cheap toys but the results are pretty great." To think that it's now seen as almost a "classic" relic and hear someone like Simon desribe it as having an aristocratic feel, boggles the mind. Times certainly change. Perhaps I was too harsh on you, Pure Drive, I've become fond of seeing you pop up here and there amidst all the yonexes and clashes and Aeros. You're still here and so am I, and that's worth celebrating. Maybe I'll watch some old Andy Roddick and Kim Clijsters highlights.

In the 2020's I'm just happy to test racquets with consistent flexes. IMO this is what makes the PD feel semi classic. The super stiff hoop super soft throat thing that other brands are doing grinds my gears in the same way that thick beams with hollow feels frustrating Prestige lovers.

Thorough review as always. Couple of questions: 1. Does the flax cause ANY drop in power compared to 2021 PD? 2. Does this racquet have more power than the new Ezone 100? Why am I asking these questions? 1. I use a 2021 PD and the power level is perfect for me. 2. I have a 2023 pure aero and I really really love the feeling of the flax. But the Aero doesn't have enough power to save me when I'm out of position (ie 90 percent of the time) so I went back to the PD 2021 purely for the power. 3. If there is no power loss and the flax feels the same as the 2023 Aero I will gladly upgrade to the PD2025. 4. My favorite feeling power racket is the Ezone 100, but it doesn't have nearly enough power for me. But they say the Gen 8 has 4% more power than before (But I don't know where that puts it in relation to the PD.) So, if Gen 8 has as much power as the PD 2025, I will switch to the Ezone 100. Which leads me to a final request. Will you please do an Ezone 100 get 8 head to head with the 2025 PD. Sorry for this stupid long comment. Many thanks.

1. Nothing that I noticed 2. I'm leaning no but I haven't hit them back to back with the same strings. I will do a full comparison vid when I get an EZ. IMO the 2025 PD feels almost the same. Very slightly more muted/solid with a bit more dwell time but I wouldn't say it feels softer exactly. Arguably I think QC and spec variance good explain the difference between the 2021 and 2024.

I got the 2025 pure drive early and I think this is a great review of the frame! I too use a heavier racket (shift pro with a leather grip) and I had the same thought about how stable the pure drive so much so it had me thinking about a switch. I don’t know that I will, but that’s how good it is! Great review (as always)!

your comment about it being very similar to last model intrigues me - mainly because there's a few discounted sticks going around of Gen10. How would you describe the difference? more pingy? like when you play with/without a dampener? or something different? and you probably know this already - but if you work on crouching and loading your hips/legs more you are going to have a heck of a weapon on your forehand because your hand/racquet speed is actually pretty high level 😊

The old one is slightly more pingy and crisp but its minor imo. Also yes, thanks, I'm working on my hip mobility to help facilitate better load.

@brandomaxwellКүн бұрын
You have me curious about where its unique stability comes from. Given its moderate wt. and SW, I was sure the source would have to be a high twistweight, especially given that TW has 2024 Ani's at 15.6tw. But at 10:38, you show it unstrung at 13.2, which makes it, what, about 14tw strung? Now I'm stumped...
@TennComКүн бұрын

@allainangcao283 күн бұрын
Would the PD's stiffness issues be mitigated if you dropped tension more than usual? I feel that the sole reason about arm issues regarding stiff rackets is that people also use stiff poly strings at moderate to high tension. If they dropped tension to a range lower than usual or use a thinner or softer poly, it wouldn't be so harmful on the arm.
@The4.0Guy3 күн бұрын
Agree, i have a pretty sensitive elbow but i have been able to use racquets with RA's in the high 60's by using a full bed of multi at 45 lbs. String is more important than racquet stiffness IMHO
@TennCom3 күн бұрын
I think the dampening they've done here is enough to mitigate the comfort issues for most players. I don't personally see a need to string this one over 52lbs if you are using a decent poly. I could probably drop down to 45lbs and still be fine.
@allainangcao283 күн бұрын
@@TennComI do love how people complain about Babolats being arm killers, then proceed to string an Aero with 370 swing weight with RPM Blast at 55 lbs.

I'd been waiting for this review! But like you close out the video with, it seems like if you own the 2021 version, you're all set, most of the pros you mention of this racquet that aren't typically associated to Pure Drives (slices, control and competency at the net) are things I had been pleasantly surprised by the 2021 model. I was curious how it was for spin production, as I felt I've been hitting with more top, but maybe it is a bit due to better technique I guess. Curiously though, my factory spec PDs are both very near the spec you ended up with after a bit of light customization. Yay for QC consistency... Strings wise I'll have to try out PTP (living in Mexico I still can't seem to get Toroline strings easily) on my PD. Have loved a hybrid of Alu Power Rough and Ghostwire, but it's not the most budget friendly set up, so alternatives are welcomed. I'll be trying out Confidential and lynx touch after my current string set is done for, buying a set of each for cheap with holiday sales discounts.
@TennCom4 күн бұрын
Yeah for me they are almost the same racquet. The differences are extremely subtle and that's probably one of the reasons as to why they didn't rush the update. Topspin production is not great with the Pure Drive, there are several 100s, including the EZONE 100, that help me find more spin. Another setup you might like is subbing RPM Power for ALU Power with Ghostwire. RPM Power was the string I used to test the 2021 PD and it was a great pairing.
@zeroelus4 күн бұрын

Do you practice with a coach or just play some balls? If the latter is your thing, then just demo some of these. If you practise with a coach, then better get a Percept 100. Or a Gravity. The cleaner your swing is, the less beginner friendly your racquet should be.

Don´t underestimate weight as a stability help. I still remember a doubles opponent. Older than me, flawless technique, thick and light racquet (I mean Head Ti. S6 thick). When he approached the net and got a heavy topspin forehand from me, I shot his racquet out of his hand. Your 330 g strung weight is no badminton style racquet by far. But trading in weight for thick beam racquets only gets you so far.
