I remember a Reddit story where two parents adopted a young boy and the wife had a few daughters and started resenting him because he was a teen and started to assume he would do stuff to them when he treated them like family. Now he doesn’t talk to her and her “real” children plan on cutting her off when they’re able to and she has the audacity to be upset. Parents like this don’t deserve children. The only reason Haruto's adoptive mother being able to get pregnant after so long is thanks to him, because she had accumulated great virtuous merit for taking him in and accepting him as her child, and as a result of which she was blessed to experience the same feeling as any natural mother. I honestly feel that the only family member that would forgive her is the son she wronged and hurt the most. Her biological son might forgive her someday, ex-husband probably never will and that's a shame. She blamed herself for not being able to get pregnant and I'm certain hated her weak body. Then by God's blessings she was finally pregnant and she needed to put this child first and protect him at any cost. Her only love, her biological child was more important than her husband, her adopted son, or anyone else. It was her unrestricted love for her biological son that eventually destroyed her family. I honestly feel Akuno can be forgiven but I'm not certain she can or will forgive herself after her actions destroyed her family. I think that's why she didn't go to her eldest son's wedding 💕💒💍

I think that’s so funny when parents think that their golden child is going to take care of them if anything goes bad. Like my mom kind of had the same mindset with my third eldest sister because she was the “golden child“ of our family. My mom thought that my sister was going to eventually take care of my mom once she got older and it was actually the complete opposite. Now my sister is not really in contact with my mother and I am now the person who would be handling my mom‘s preparations of having a funeral and such

​@@davidpatterson9221Unfortunately I think the poor actions of the father were more due to the average Japanese mentality where mental health issues are still an absolute taboo in Japanese culture, not to mention the fact that the Japanese are completely closed-minded about talking about their emotional problems, keeping everything to themselves, making a problem that could have been solved simply grow uncontrollably. Unfortunately, here the father also acted terribly, I have no doubt about it. If they had had a conversation with the same tone they had at the end, I feel that the protagonist's mother would have managed to change and understood that she had a problem and with some help she would have been able to reconnect with that love she felt for the protagonist and see her other son again, making it possible for her family to rebuild and make up for lost time.

An ending to this story: After Haruto's family broke up Akuno went into a cheap apartment. Retsu went back to college still needed about 2 years till he could graduate. Haruto's father has sold the family home and moved into a small apartment with an extra bedroom so his sons can visit. At Haruto and Mio's wedding Akuno sent her regrets for not coming and told him how sorry she was for how badly she treated him and for destroying their family. Haruto and Mio cried from reading Akuno's message. 😢 Haruto and Mio regularly visited his dad and brother, spending time together with great joy and happiness.😊 Haruto would send a small sum of money to Akuno to help her get by in life but she'd send it back. Haruto then made an arrangement with her landlord and send the landlord small payments to help her afford her stay. Haruto and Mio would stop by, bring food to Akuno and spend time with her. Akuno would ask how his father was doing and what Retsu was up to and how his college classes were going. She'd often cry because of all the trouble she caused for them and how lonely she felt but she didn't blame them. She acknowledged that she was suffering because of her own actions and continued to say how sorry she was. 😢 Eventually Mio became pregnant and Haruto saw this as a chance to reunite his family. They told his father and Retsu about Mio being pregnant and they wanted to celebrate together. Six months later Mio and Haruto welcomed their first born son Kei. Retsu picked up their father and the two came over for a visit and to meet baby Kei for the first time. After everyone was settled in Haruto went to the bedroom to get Kei. He returned with Akuno holding her grandson. Needless to say Retsu and their father were shocked by seeing Akuno. She apologized to each of them and handed Uncle Retsu his nephew Kei for the first time. While he admired Kei Akuno went over to apologize to her ex-husband and said she wished she had listened to him so many years ago. Next Grandad got to hold his grandson Kei. He said how much he looked like Haruto but his eyes were Mio's. After sitting and talking for hours it was time to leave. Retsu decided to take both his mother and father home himself. On the drive they asked questions to each other about how things were going and how they've been doing for the last couple of years. Retsu decided to start visiting Akuno and spend more time with her. Their father told Akuno to take care of herself but he wasn't going to see her anymore. He's decided to move on with his life apart from Akuno, she understands and doesn't blame him in the least. She is happy to have both of her sons and her first grandson in her life even if only a small way. Well that's my ending to this story. Let me know what you think. 🤔

And ironically he did..... buy her poor actions to him eventually disgusting her son for having stayed silent all this time when he wanted a relationship with his brother I'm sure at some point he did question and she tried to convince him of whatever garbage she convinced herself sadly even when her husband told her what she did was wrong as long as she convinced herself she did nothing wrong even from the smallest thing of preventing the brothers from bonding with each other when the youngest was born it grew and grew until eventually it became second nature to put him second he's not her son after all so why should she give too much then what she needs to do all the attention needs to go to her youngest till eventually she Justified that everything haruto has should go to her son because if he wasn't around 100% even though he was getting the well amount of attention anyway would have gone to him she likely even convinced herself that haruto Beyonce would have been her son despite the fact she acknowledged the age Gap meant the two of them would have never have met nor would he have ended up in the situations that haruto ended up being in as he only moved to the location he was in because he was getting away from her because the situation was toxic and he was thinking about her despite the fact she didn't think of him at all even when he came to visit very likely her husband she came more as a courtesy and she couldn't stop herself from promoting her bio son because it became second nature to always put him ahead of what she saw as the ward of the state she was forced to take care of despite the fact as you pointed out she's the one that wanted to adopt him she's the one that signed the papers yet somehow she still justifying to herself that he was forced on her that's what you call many many years of convincing herself of her own b******* what we in the intellectual South Park world called smelling your own farts😅 she was able to smell a lot of her stinky farts that she was able to Gaslight herself into believing that she was taking care of him reluctantly and he should be grateful but when he killed her with kindness that destroyed all of her justifications to herself and now she's left with nothing she can no longer convince herself what she did back then and continue to do was right it lost her son who might talk to her in the future and she will know it will be because haruto eventually convinced him when he got what he wanted if he was the evil child that was going to take her happiness away from her as she convinced herself he would do nothing he would keep giving her money just to have her owe him because why would he give her money after all she's done after all she's acted like especially establishing that she only saw him as a ward that was forced on her against her will even though she was the one who adopted them and had the choice not to she's like my sister and this is a negative to her and not my sister because my sister adopted a kitten this is after I lost my cat since I was a teenager she got her husband who she freshly married to buy the cat for her but she's starting neglecting a cat like she loved him at first but when she got pregnant she prioritized her child and suddenly the cat was being heavily ignored out of favor and still mourning my dead cat along with my grandmother who also died a year after the cat so I was hit with two major losses we started the bond in eventually she 100% focused on her child I have nothing against my niece and the cat was adopted when she didn't know if she would have a kid so soon but the fact she kept Dilly dabbling on keeping the cat or not was not very fair to the cat it was fair to me because I made certain she and her husband paid me to take care of the cat by getting me all this stuff needed for the cat like litter and you know Essentials until my name was on his adoption papers I was not going to spend a single Cent on a cat that's not mine truth be told I was going to do that but my mother put a stop to that she didn't want nobody exploiting me and my good nature so once he became mine about when my niece finally became too so took him long enough😅 all was good until my sister decided to adopt a dog😂 but that's another story😊 difference is haruto is a living human being in a child not a freaking kitten😢

I honestly think Haruto is the only option Akuno has to reconnect with her family. The one she has hurt the most is the most forgiving. Her biological son has cut ties with her because she caused a huge rift between him and his older brother that he loves so much. Her ex-husband I'm certain feels betrayed because of her actions in cutting off their eldest son and never listens to him about treating Haruto better. Now it's up to Akuno to forgive herself and try to bridge those gaps she created in their family with Haruto's help. No, not all "members" of the family cut ties with her, but rather it was Haruto who ironically still stay connected to her despite what she had done to him all these years. Assuming she didn't have a job as she probably has been a housewife all these years, Haruto probably is the one who provided her food and shelter at least, even if she lives in a shabby apartment now by her own choice. Her husband definitely didn't care about her anymore, his "real" son already cut ties with her. So its only Haruto who probably took care of her indirectly and wished to stay connected to her regardless.

Haruto's stepmother, what a foolish, yet tragic woman. I might be able to sympathize with the pain. She had not been able to conceive for a long time. Then she adopted him along with her husband. There was probably some genuine affection going on in there. But then miraculously, she got pregnant and a feeling that was thanks to Haruto he must have gave her a calming sensation to the point she finally conceived. But unfortunately, as her child began to grow, so did her feeling of distance with her adoptive son. Then the distance between her biological son and husband began to have them when he finally decided to leave for college. The father was considering getting a divorce from her. She was only able to be married up until the end because Haruto was able to talk the father into not going through with it for the sake of his little brother. It was only thanks to his affection for her for taking him in at that moment that he was able to treat her with even some kindness. But the moment she said those things when he introduced his fiancé to her. She had finally shattered the last saving grace she had. Hopefully she'll use this moment to change herself. For the better and become a mother, her sons can be proud of again.

The issue is the distance started happening the very moment she got pregnant when she instantly looked at him like he had tried to slap her in the belly and kill her child when he wanted to touch her belly I believe two parts of her were wearing inside that feeling of wanting to be a mother that was developing and the worst side of her which was trying to convince her that herberto was going to be a jealous adopted child who's going to hate her child for taking her love from him and she needed to keep her eye on him the reason she kept getting in the way of a relationship forming between her sons because that bad side of her kept convincing her that haruto might take advantage of it and hurt his little brother and she had to protect them as his mother and then the other side of her that just wanted to keep the peace compromised that it was better to discourage any relationship from forming any way that relationship could form she kept finding a reason not to bother I think they're likely were points where she felt guilty but then convinced herself that she apologized to him later and make it up only that never came and as you can guess that guy listed down as "stuff got busy" which is the usual excuse for people like this because they don't want to admit the truth to themselves it's not that life got busy and you forgot it's that you forgot before things got busy and decided since they weren't complaining or bring up a fuss then it must mean they let it go so no harm no foul and it became a recurring thing till eventually it became second nature to always put him secondary after all he's the adopted son he should be thankful that he was adopted and they gave him a better life then he would have because by continuing to compromise with the bad side of herself the kind mother figure that would have formed instead died with regrets at a certain point finally realizing compromising with the bad side was a big mistake because she kept compromising and compromising and compromising until bad side finally took complete control the only reason it didn't get worse is because it got too used to the situation that I decided not to rock the boat but it became pretty much first nature for her to always prioritize her son over haruto convincing herself because she and her husband took him in it's the least he could do to return the gratefulness And that must have really hurt hard when he had returned her evil indifference with forgiveness and kindness and it wasn't done out of naivety Bob Moore he gave her what she wanted she finally got what she wanted he no longer sees her as a mother but as someone who looked out for him and now a crushes her because that was the initial major reason she had adopted him to be a mother to be good but now she's forced to realize she did bad she continued to do bad she knew she was doing bad but she continued anyway because nobody was complaining loud enough until she couldn't stop herself and crossed the final line and even at the end of the day he still was willing to let bygones be bygones however a bond of mother and child is too late and he's the only one that still has concern for her it's ironic that her son Cut Her Off because my gas was she convinced herself that when the haruto Becomes of age he'll abandon her because she's not his real mom and of course when he didn't call she convinced herself that she was completely right utterly of course ignoring the fact that he wasn't going to call and be rude and force a conversation she Justified herself by the fact he didn't try to push for a relationship so it must mean that he didn't see her as his real mother but at the same time she won her cake too and believe that he wanted to harm her family and was waiting for a good opportunity for her to lower her guard and by her own actions "she pushed her REAL family away! I feel that the constant treatment and trying hard to get pregnant left a big scar on her, she did love Haruto like a son, but once she got blessed by her own, that pain that she felt and the realization of her finally getting pregnant must likely played a bad trick on her mind, for her, Ritsu was that treasure she thought she would never had and that blinded her to the point of hating Haruto. And considering that she kept mumbling "I'm sorry" and that the letter destroyed her and also did not try to go back to Haruto, I guess she really repented for that, it was late? This hit home for me, because I was adopted too. When my biological parents told me the story of how my adoptive parents desperately cried and begged to at least give one of their own (My mom and step mom are cousins. And don't worry about the personal story). So seeing how the mom was on her knees, it reminded me of my own stepmom. We also didn't get along well at first, so many arguments, but my dad was like the MC's, so kind, patient and all, but deep down they always treated me as their own. I feel bad for the MC's mom, especially that she regretted. But regrets never come in first, they always come biting back last. I also kinda felt disgusted at her, not because she hated Haruto, but because she had the audacity of trying to break his happiness by recommending his fiance to his younger brother. A partner means everything, and to say something so braindead is beyond disrespectful. I just wish the MC's mom realized it sooner and how to value the little things in life. The MC was there when they were at their lowest. His dad never forgot that. I think this is my favorite story just cuz it kinda hits home. As long as there is redemption, I'm not one for revenge endings like when I was a teen, or sad endings. I guess growing up has gotten me soft. I hope that in their universe, Haruto and his mom would reconcile. No matter how much I probably would have resented her if I was the MC, like the FMC, I would regret it forever if I don't hug her. I won't get that one chance once she is gone. I believe that as long as your breathe, you have a chance at redeeming yourself. Take that chance instead of being all "edgy" and revenge and the like. This is such a beautiful story and I was in tears watching this 😭 This is why parents should NEVER play favoritism. I don't know how Haruto kept his feelings growing up after his adoptive mother treated him all those years, but he has such a BIG heart. Even though she treated him like he doesn't belonged there, he quickly matured at that age and endured willingly till his time to move out. This story does happened to some adoptive children when their step parents finally have a child of their own. Its unfortunate that some parents had a twisted mind like Akuno-san who thinks they need to protect their child from children like him, despite the fact that they were the ones who adopted him first and its so UNFAIR of the difference of love and care. A good parent would definitely loved them no matter whether or not they were blood related. But Akuno-san, the only time she crossed that line was that she offered Haruto's fiancée Mio to Ritsu because she thought that she could bring her so called "real" son happiness by marrying a beautiful girl like her and that was a bit too much as this is more of an insult to Haruto. Good thing Haruto-san had a GOOD father and also fortunately a GOOD brother despite how his mother treated him. Especially Ritsu-san, he didn't care whether or not he is not his real brother, the bond they share as siblings mattered more to him and he always respected him. Good thing he actually stood up to his mother finally & didn't hesitate to stop the divorce either. I don't think she's a bad person personally, but she is definitely a bad parent because she chose to be cruel to a kid like Haruto just because she finally had a child of her own. Despite being too late, good thing she finally regretted what she did and even wrote back the letter Haruto had sent her.

😢 i wouldn't say this was a happy story on for one reason. The mom didn't give a real reason for her actions. If the initial reason was for the baby, that would explain preferential treatment, but in this case, even the husband and brother felt guilt because the mother seemed to resent the adopted child. I was expecting an answer like his parents had a shady past or she distance herself because she was afraid he would leave to find his real parents. The reason on i had to protect don't explain the hatred when he wasn't living with them.

I can forgive the mother for having complex feelings on the matter. She had trouble getting pregnant which led to her adopting Haruto and it most likely left their mark. While the Japanese mental healthcare system isn't the best, I think that the MC's mother really should have gone to therapy right after she started showing signs of personal change. In a realistic setting there could have been a very real chance that she could have also harmed her biological son because of something like postnatal depression. To me this story is a tragedy of an ignorant husband combined with one of the biggest failures of Japanese healthcare and culture. In fact at about 15:40 you can even kind of see it, she started that when the MC ran towards her while pregnant she recoiled and had what could basically be described as a minor psychotic episode. I nearly threw up at 18:38 because this story REALLY made me sick here, because the writer tries to vilify the mother here when it's OBVIOUS that the woman had some sort of mental condition.

Post partum depression is real. I feel that Haruto's mother was suffering from undiagnosed mental illnesses. I treat my kids the same, I am not father of the year material but I try and help my kids.
