Las Vegas. Second story flat roof install of our AC. Compressor fan motor shot. 107 outside, HOT inside (digital thermostat only reads to 99). My HVAC guy had the motor on his van, and changed it for me. $468. 90 day warranty. The unit itself is original (1981). 8pm. Running for a solid 6 hours. Internal temp now 91 (much western exposure, so heat gain all afternoon). I did this myself 6 years ago on a different AC, on a July day at 117. It took past midnight to get a decent temp. I expect the same tonight. I can appreciate AC guys. For those interested. My AC guy had school with a company that charges NOTHING, IF YOU PASS. If you drop out or fail, it is $10k. He passed licensing easy, and when he started on his own, he never made less than $100k. For any of you with decent common sense, and the ability to WORK, YOU can make $100k a year, even within 12 months of graduating from High School.

Great video. Stay hydrated for sure. I just went out and cleaned my condenser after watching this one. Mine wasn’t too bad, just a little accumulation at the bottom, came clean pretty fast. Tomorrow is gonna be 101° F, so I hope it helps a bit. Thanks for bringing us along. 😊

Welcome to the welding world there fella, you can't grind on that steel and then grab it with your fingers. I got to say it gave me a good chuckle I have been there many times. I can't believe they put a lock on that box that's borderline illegal. Or maybe you should install a separate or if not you have electrician come in install disconnect lockout on that unit loan and then they could lock the other box up but they can't just do what they did. I'm glad you cut the lock. You take care of yourself I enjoy your content your videos are great. I used to do HVAC back in the '90s so watching them brings up old memories and it keeps my brain active. Peace from Oregon

I feel for you in the heat. Gotta ask. The umbrella you are using , is it a good idea to block direct sunlight off your ac unit when running in the hot summers? Here in Texas my unit sits in direct sunlight from 1:00pm to 5:00pm daily in this heat. Was looking for a solution and think this might work. Another great video.

A sunshade will definitely help. Water spray on the condenser (hot high pressure) coils also works but be sure the evaporator (cold low pressure) coils are squeaky clean. They are wet with dew when running and any amount of dust will combine with that. Which is the importance of changing filters before they clog and buckle letting unfiltered air bypass them.

I am a preventive maintenance DIY guy with an EPA class 2 cert. In central Texas one can't afford to go without the AC. Two months ago I changed out my ECM blower motor ($275) and my condenser fan motor ($85). Both almost 10 years old. They were working fine so they are now spares. Capacitor changed 2 years ago and added hard start - AmRad. Got a spart contactor sitting on the shelf ready to go... when I'm sober.

Those Coremax fittings are just a way for the factory to have a high flow fitting for evacuating and charging newly manufactured units. You can get more flow out of them than a regular schrader port by using core depressor tools when you need to recover and/or evacuate a unit. There are also snap fit hose adapters for them. The tool for changing the fittings with pressure in the system is like $600, and you can't use it for recovery/evac like you can normal core removers on schrader cores.

Time to get cracking on my rear brakes, thankfully we're getting a very tiny break from the heat/humidity - mid 70s for a whole day. If my body isn't complaining too much, I might get my driver window regulator swapped out, too, so I won't have to push the button AND the glass simultaneously. (Guess I shouldn't complain, at least it winds up without assistance, but it was a real pain delivering papers in a thunderstorm - and we've got another stretch of stormy weather predicted early Sunday morning.)

And as far as the heat on the rooftop units, it’s not terrible bad, I used one of the mission hats (wet), a wet neck wrap, and most of all sunglasses 😅. You should try putting a drive belt on a cooling tower, the heat and humidity are killers. Inside that metal box is at least 15-20 degrees warmer 😢😢

Nice video, Curtis. Dampening clothing can gain you evaporative cooling when you're outside. I'm not quite sure what you were doing with the hose to coil it but over-under works for hoses as well as cables and means you can just pull them and they uncoil straight. It's really heavy going in the heat and it can be difficult to keep an eye on your own health as well as on the job. I'm glad you've got water with you. Great job!
