How is the compressor holding up? I just got one like that (the newer elite version) So far i like it. The reason why they say you need 40ft of line before the dryer is to let the air cool down and condensate water. Copper tube would work better than hose.

If you choke down on the inlet side of the squirrel cage fan you will get much better air flow than leaving it open the way it is now.

Just got to rewatching this video on your air setup, I had commented previously on another video in response to some paint issues you were having. A couple things I have experienced that may help. That big loop you have will help with moisture, but I didn't catch if you mentioned to have that water drain cracked just a touch while painting. When there isn't a lot of humidity, that dryer generally will capture all the moisture, but during the summer months, that isn't always the case. I used the same dryer, with a new cartridge, and still had water contamination in a paint job resulting in blasting everything back to bare metal and starting over. To mitigate this, I did two things. I added a water separator/filter just before my dryer/filter. I also created small air leaks, one at the bottom of the loop with the drain valve, and one at the water separator drain valve. These leaks create low pressure zones, low pressure creates low temperature, low temperature condenses water in the air. The end result was the driest air I've ever had and the smoothest paint I've ever laid. HVLP guns use a ton of air, sometimes the drier alone just can't keep up when the air is saturated.

Another endorsement for Milton. I bought the high flow fittings and never lack for air.
@plugger4103 жыл бұрын
That’s interesting what you said about your HVLP system. That’s actually the reason HVLP became a thing was it was supposed to be low pressure (LP) and keep more of the material on the thing you’re painting rather than bouncing off it into the air. Sounds like you had your settings off. Thanks for the great video though.

Caution with the electric motor on the fan....electric motors make tiny sparks at the winding/brush contact points and can ignite vapors if they become dense enough....I almost found that out the hard way. It would be better if the fan was on the outside of the building....just sayin’

@tomintexas8175 жыл бұрын
If the moisture needs so much hose to condense the water then how come you have to drain the tank?
@2mYgR5 жыл бұрын
Relative to the 150+ degree hot air coming from the compressor head, the walls of the tank are cold. This causes any hot air from the compressor head that touches the tank wall to 'sweat' immediately upon touching it, so that's why the tank needs a drain. It would be best if he cooled the air with an external condenser between the compressor head before it enters the tank, then remove water again when it leaves the tank (that's what he has '40 to 50' feet down the line currently.) They say 40 to 50 feet away because the air needs to be cooled down to condense before going through a water filter, but the manufacturer knows the average shop owner is not going to install the appropriate equipment. Surprisingly, it's not expensive to do this and many people are installing transmission oil coolers with success. Check it out on KZbin - you can get them cheap off of Amazon. As an upgrade, you can add a fan to the transmission or oil cooler to help remove heat for almost no cost.

Because the tank cools down in between coppressor uses.

If you want simple , cheap , and safe, just buy some box window fans for $20 ea at Home Depot and tape a A/C filter to the fan . Or cut a square hole in the door and mount the filter there. Put the box fans outside to avoid sparks. And remember kids, auto paint contains iso-cynides which you can absorb even through your eyeballs so wear a full suit with NOTHING exposed. Capice ?

Sounds like you had your air pressure too high in your initial jobs. You don't really need super high pressure when using a help system. You will only get lots of overspray and paint in the air instead of your part.

@@JJ-333 Thank you for keeping me apprised as to your compressor. I've gotten mine lightly setup since my previous comment to you and am noticing a lot of moisture from the compressor too. I'm waiting to plumb a final system while my garage is re-wired/insulated. Here's what I'm planning on doing, perhaps is will help you with some of your issues as well. I'm running 3/4 rapid air aluminum pipe, but I'm planning on constructing cooling pipes like these and putting them on auto drains (I'm wanting this about 20 feet from the compressor): www.pneumaticplus.com/pneumaticplus-qlk32-compressed-air-cooling-piping-system-kit-1-2-pipe/ From there I'm going to install an Aqua Check as a first line of defense, as the filters are cheaper, but not as refined as the QC. And finally a QC as a final step. www.amazon.com/WIX-Filters-ACK20-Heavy-Removal/dp/B000CSEXFS/ref=asc_df_B000CSEXFS/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=266102701344&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17290547267193365605&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-568782932100&psc=1 Once I'm that far in hopefully I will be happy with the air quality. I'm not trying to paint at this time but am wanting to sandblast/plasma cut. I think we're both finding the air from the scroll is very hot and moisture prone. Ultimately if I'm not happy I'll just bite the bullet and by a Kaeser. Good luck and lets keep in touch with what we come up with!

RhodesianFAL I do like that hanger your in. Great space to work. I just redesigned my shop and am pouring a small concrete slab today for my compressor. I am building a dog house style building around it with heat and air. Behind the shop to deaden some noise....even spraying the building with Raptor bed liner to shhh things a little. I am still in the planning state of “hmmmmm” on the dryer set up and lines. Im definitely in agreement with you, this time the dryer will be farther down the line from the compressor. About 25’. I too keep toying with that thought to just bite the bullet and get a nice one instead of changing filters or desiccant packs. Also,,,love the hanger you have. I retired out of the Army, 160th Nightstalkers. I then contracted and was an A&P mech. Now I am retired, I do miss it with the test flights and stuff, so now Im thinking of putting something together myself for fun. Like a small “little bird” style helicopter. Time will tell. Hahaha and this compressor set up of course. Hahaha
