So... It needs to become the Quest 3? 🤣
@WhoKnowsZombie7 ай бұрын
The thing about the price though is they actually use that money to build the Vision Pro. It costs a lot for those parts and all that tech. The problem is quest 3 actually looses money and makes money by selling games but because they decided to take the hit and price quest so low now people expect VR headsets to be that cheap. Buts it crazy that we expect really amazing VR / AR tech for $500 😆 that’s crazy to me. Honestly I think really good VR headsets should be $2000 to me that’s a fair price considering all the amazing tech we are getting.
@Diniven7 ай бұрын
@@WhoKnowsZombieThat's a warm take and partially true- they DO subsidize the headset costs but it's not just the games they make money off of but the user data they're gathering and selling. Let's not forget that META is just Facebook rebranded and Facebook's entire MO is selling your data to advertisers. Still tho, $500 for the Quest 3 is NUTTY with how much is packed in the headset. I'd bet that thing would cost close to 1K easy for all the tech crammed in it. Just look at the Quest Pro and how much that baby cost.

However the QPro has had a bit of a renaissance after its price cuts and is used by quite a few PCVR gamers (I'm one of them). It's a much more usable device for the Quest demographic (i.e. not productivity) than the AVP seems to be. AVP is better at day-to-day computing and work than QPro.
@rodmunch697 ай бұрын
Great job on giving your first thoughts - it's much more interesting to me to hear from people who are up to date on VR and can compare this, in particular, to the Quest 3. A few questions for your full review -- how good is the screen quality for 3D movies compared to the Quest 3 (does Big Screen exist for the AVP?) - the lack of great black levels on the Quest is a huge thumbs down to me. What are the options for watching local media on the AVP, does it have things like Plex, BigScreen, Skybox? Also is there any issue with heat? Finally, can you give more details on comfort, how long you use it before it starts to bother you, etc. To me, the one thing that keeps me from buying one of these is comfort, even with the Quest 3 and a Bobovr battery headstrap, I still can't use it for more than an hour because it's just too uncomfortable. Finally, do you know anyone that gets motionsick you can have try this? I love VR, been using it since the 90s, but I get motion sick extremely easily - but if this is 'virtually lag free' as Apple says, I wonder if that helps for motion sickness. Anyways, great video!

can I ask what vr you were using in the 90's?? the Nintendo virtual boy?
@rodmunch697 ай бұрын
@@xbloodkiss. not sure what the name of it was - but Circuit City had VR displays you could use in the early 90s. It was very primitive compared to today’s stuff - but was leaps and bounds ahead of the Virtual Boy which I also tried and wasn’t a fan of. As for modern VR, I got the Oculus Rift DK1 kit shortly after it was available on Kickstarter, then DK2, then the CV1, then Quest 1, 2 and 3. The progress has mostly been great - except for the screens. Losing the OLED screen stinks and hopefully they at least switch to MicroLED with the next one, assuming there is a next one.

Is it just me, or does the “I wish I had controllers” seem like the new “phones need to have keyboards no one wants to use a phone without buttons”? I travel with my quest, three and for the life of me I do not understand why Meta refuses to put on/off buttons or switches on the controllers. So, of course, the controllers always die. Sure, I could take the batteries and put them somewhere else. And of course I’ve done that and they get lost. But for me, I don’t miss the controllers at all. One of the things that used to drive me nuts was trying to click on something at the bottom of the screen with the controller. I would have to try and move in such a way because the controllers arrow or beam points up.

But then again, Apple isn’t marketing us to VR gamers. if you look at the messaging from meta-connect, the video was about an hour long when I came to the quest. 100% of that was gaming. Apple‘s video announcing the Vision Pro was about an hour long and they spent five seconds on gaming. So you can see who the different products are marketed to.

First off; yes I get that Apples *insistence" on NOT saying the words VR/AR ect can be over the top, but lets be clear on terminology here. VR/AR/XR are APPLICATIONS of a stereopsis 6DOF HMD, NOT the hardware itself. So calling the AVP a "VR Headset" is a HUGE mistake. The term "Spatial Computing" makes WAY more sense! So I actually have to completely, but respectfully, disagree. Apple actually got this completely right.
@AssasinSpike7 ай бұрын
Their primary reasoning was so theirs would stand out and not automatically be boxed in with other VR/MR headsets as well as any bad rep that may have. Otherwise, yes it's practically a Mixed Reality headset. Apple does this all the time when launching something new. It's akin to saying a lighting cable is nothing like a type c cable. They ultimately do the same thing

AVP hand-tracking cameras stream at 30FPS. while Quest3 cameras can stream much more.
@DisgruntledDisabledCombat_Vet6 ай бұрын
But the difference is that’s because it’s not adding your real arm and hands when you are looking at them. So you’ll at best get 24fps on the AVP because it’s recording and showing your real skin texture. When you move your hand/arm quickly it will glitch out during the immersion process, because it doesn’t have enough power to blend the detail intensive background, and correctly show the natural motion blur caused with your real arms/hands. Basically the devs need to figure out what lines of code to add in order to perfect blurring the background images when you are looking at your hands and arm while moving them around, and keep the images of your arms/hands from causing causing the minor background distortion around the outlines. They could fix that issue by making a scan of your arm and hands, then use the digital scan for when you are moving them around quickly. Then everytime you put on the headset, it will automatically update the original scan with whatever is new. Otherwise it’s still will be glitchy and have distortion when looking around in a different environment. Unless it’s just either a lighting, camera, and lidar issue that is causing the distortion, instead of showing natural motion blur caused by rapid eye, hand, and arm movements. Now that I think about it, I think the lidar sensor used on the AVP isn’t really an expensive one, and is the same model used on the iPhones, etc. because I bought a few lidar sensors to create a security camera, that doesn’t look like a security camera, and will provide great detail scans of people’s facial features; that outdoor 60FPS cameras can’t capture good quality images during nighttime, because of the different IR wavelength to not show red glow, and the lighting isn’t evenly distributed well. Which makes you have to edit the footage for hours to get the best image, and even then it’s hard to see the persons face. Compared to the multi lidar setups on my Pi 4(s) and the details are insane with the prism in the middle of the few sensors I have. Anyway sorry for the long comment and jumping all over the place. If my dome didn’t get rocked by a few Jdams, two IED’s, and one VBIED that was the largest to hit our Fob in OEF; the shockwave had turned the concrete barriers 5meters from our Bhut into partial dust/rebar, and blew open our reinforced doors wide open, because the wall was less than 100meters from where we slept. Also the Taliban were trying to hit the SF/JSOC side of the compound, but hit our side instead in 2012. FOB Salerno attack is posted on YT from the Talibans POV, and they should have known that there was a few nobodies like us on the fob. While the rest were all seasoned special operations guys, rangers and some tier 1 units from Devgru (s-team 6/SFODAs (Delta).

I think it's good that Apple have entered the VR space, because where Apple goes others follow. However also with Apple are their...eccentricities. I don't think the vision pro was made for the mass market as such, more for developers to use to innovate and build a digital future. At present there is not really the library of things to do, that say Meta has. And even with Meta you can run out of decent games, and or apps and features. Overall for a platform that while not dead, despite Journalisim to the contrary. It does bring life and hopefully innovation, and a means to move VR/AR forward. In what can be a stagnative area of technonlogy, design and often software. I hope it's a good move forward, and that it leads to better software, hardware and in the future a much more mass adoption of what could be a very exciting portal into a digital world, seperate but also very much a part of our daily real world lives.

Thanks for the review, I was definitely waiting for your weigh-in. Not being able to share the vision pro easily with family is a non-starter for us. I've watched a few reviews, you're the only one who pointed it out. The price point makes it hard to share, too, especially with kids. It also seems a somewhat solitary experience, too, compared to the Quest which I suppose makes sense as it's from a social media company. Even though I'm intrigued with the development possibilities, I think I'll take a pass on the first generation. It's probably a hard pass, too as no one will be able to share one with me. :)

Apple actually nailed their description for the Apple Vision Pro. For too long the public identified VR headsets as GAMING headsets. That also seemed fine with Meta who focused most of their efforts on gaming. Apple needed to pull the public’s perception of VR as mostly a gaming technology into a separate space. Apple needed to define what they believe it IS. Words matter, they help clarify and define. Think of the automobile, the public’s frame of reference was the horse and buggy so at first it was The Horseless Carriage. Spatial Computer is the automobile.

I continue to scratch my brain, befuddled by why Apple would deliberately shoot themselves in the foot by severely limiting the versatility of the AVP by not "also" having proper immersive VR capabilities. Apple's decision to use the high-resolution Micro OLED displays (costing $1000), resulted in the shockingly narrow FOVs and the motion-blur latency that make fast games un-viable. That display decision seems to result from some corporate paranoia that doesn't allow them ever to even mention the expression "virtual reality". So my leading irrational-Apple-explanation is that they are worried that if their new gadget also included VR that it might cause a few of their pampered hypersensetive customers to experience "motion-sickness" and be Apple-unhappy. My theory is bolstered by the fact that Apple has renamed our normal 3D videos "spatial videos", surrounding the 3D image with an annoying blurry border to detach you from the immersive 3D motion. Also the"spatial videos" taken with the iPhone 15 Pro have very little actual 3D "depth". Having shunned The dreaded "VR", and having a fabulous passthrough, this leaves AVP all sorts of opportunities for Mixed Reality apps . . . but we see very few. Hopefully the AVP will soon have some more MR apps so they will have a category of "something" that they can "only" do in the headset! To allow Apple to do some actually "fun" "spatial" (immersive) things with their productivity headset, I envision that MR apps like the Quest "Figmin XR" app would work really well with the AVP passthrough. This app allows you to pin a great variety of unreal things into your real space. You can search/resize/place static or animated Sketchfab models, KZbin videos, and realtime animated audio-responsive Tiltbrush art into real rooms or enclosed VR spaces. You can customize the physics of your objects and even have your controller haptics buzz to the KZbin music!

Fantastic review!

Did you forget to mention that both the horizontal and verticsl FOVs are incredibly bad, comparable to headsets that became obsolete years ago? Evidently you enjoy that claustrophobic goggles feeling that VR enthusiasts were excited to be done with.

Comment from someone who has not try the headset

I think the fantastic quality of the display makes people forget how bad the FOV is on this headset.

The Apple Vision Pro (AVP) marks my initial encounter with a head-mounted device (HMD). During my Apple Store demo, I didn't perceive the weight of the HMD, even with the Solo Knit Band. The screen's clarity is remarkable, providing an immersive and breathtaking experience. The intuitive hand and eye tracking quickly became second nature. However, given my lack of experience with other HMDs aside from Xreal Air, I can't draw direct comparisons between the two. Apple's decision to label their product as "spatial computing" aims to distance itself from the negative associations tied to the term commonly viewed as a gaming and entertainment toy within the industry. Apple's terminology suggests broader potential beyond these conventional categories.

Great review. My sentiments exactly. I was bored after a couple of hours. Sharing the headset was a pain for sure. I don’t have a Mac would love to hear more about your experience using it for productivity. (Work)

This isn't a review. Pay attention.

@@PSYCHOV3N0M correction. Not a full review. I would call it a first impressions review of the device. (Still a review) There is not really a lot more to talk about. It doesn’t do much now.

I honestly feel this is the best first impressions of the AVP I've seen and I've watched most of them lol Well done.

its nice thing for people that choose look , simplicity and design over practicality, oh right just apple followers, this price is great if you like to look rich in developing countries area or flex your self on Instagram photos. Why not to buy rtx4090 pc and other vr set for same money, I cant process this thing anymore haha

Why should i drive a VW when i can afford a Porsche?
@MobileDecay7 ай бұрын
Why is the only option a VW? 🤔
@dtz10007 ай бұрын
Because the Porsche can't drive on the Steam VR highway.

Hey Beautiful, My #1 Complaint is the Price of it. I hate it so much. I decided not to buy one. Going to finish watching this video later in my Quest 3. 😉👌🙋🏻♂️🫶
