My background options in colouring books | Part 4 | ADULT COLOURING

Just finished watching all 4 of your background coloring videos. Thank you for a great review of all the wonderful methods available! I learned a few new techniques to try. Thanks for such a comprehensive series and for showing examples of your work with each technique. I’ve found that I don’t need to use a knife with my soft pastels; one day I forgot my knife and tried to use the pastel stick directly on the page and then rub in with a cotton round. It worked much better and eliminated some of the dust usually produced by making tiny pieces of the soft pastel with a knife. It’s still a messy job so I always have some baby wipes available. You might want to try it.

I save my little stubs of pencils that are to short to color with and take a craft knife to get to the core and there is no waste in my pencils cause there isn’t much left you can pretty much use them up.

I so love this series, I have oil pastels, got them in a set for Daler Rowney, along with acrylics, coloured pencils, and all sorts of supplies, that’s what started me coloring, 3 months later I have a 72 oil based color pencils from Brutffuner and 150 set of Prismacolors, a 60 set of alcohol based markers and 140 gel pens 😱, not proud of myself at all!

My supply list is getting longer. I just purchased the Fabre Castel gelatos, the Pentecostal Arts Sparkle Pop Metallic gel pens, 4 coloring books, Tanmit 100 gel pens, and Liqites Basics Gloss Gel. I have the pastel chalk by Artist Loft. From Michaels. Also have them in a pencil.

I actually use heavy duty hair spray as it doesn't cause my asthma to flare & works great on pastels. Also you can use it inside instead of having to go outside and as I use pastels for the most part for my backgrounds j have never had any residue on the connected page. You must get the super hold hair spray for it to work and it won't stop cross contamination from glitter & glitter glue as only a piece of wax paper between pages will do that but it works great especially for people with allergies or breathing problems & maybe those ppl who live in Iceland lol.

Have you tried oil pastels for backgrounds? I just ordered a set to try. Wondered if you had any tips.

I have oil pastels but never used them in a colouring book because I was worried they will spread and stick / smear on the opposite page. Might try them on a pdf page

@@ColouringwithK I tried them in a Rita Berman book and they worked quite well. I colored straight on the page and blended with my finger. They didn’t bleed through or smear. No transfer to the opposite page either. I do plan to use a fixative just in case, but so far I really like them.

Where did you use salt ? Trying to find it again, do you leave the salt crystals on or do you brush them off? Do they dissolve?

I can’t remember because I made this video some time ago but once the salt is on, most of it dissolves and then I just tap the paper to shake any excess off. I think I used it on an artist edition page in Summer nights by Hannah Karlzon but not 100% sure!

I have tried bubble wrap , it is a bit hit and miss , l used too much paint on it ,with less it’s quite effective l don’t know if you’ve tried it . For a large area
