Happy Easter Tim and family!!!! God bless the whole bunch of ya!!! I learned 3 strikes and you need new queens !!! I always seem to stop my carny bees from swarming by adding room ... they build up so fast and fill the honey supers sometimes faster then I can extract lol my money hive is 3 deeps of brood and 3 med honey supers and more bees then I care to count , if I put a 3 lb package in 2 years ago there has to be 9-10 lbs of bees in this hive all the time ! She is a egg laying machine in the 3 deeps she keeps about 16 frames of brood going all,the time ! I love her ! She has been cloned to my 3 top bar hives which I will change to all langs by summer. I make cups and wax them on a frame top and fish out eggs and add 1 to,each cup ... I guess it's called grafting then once they cap the queen cells I move that queen frame to a nuc box and shake in a couple pounds of bees and add a frame of honey and cut capped drones and add to the frames just before the hatch and soon I have 7-8 new queens I trade for frames or boxes !

I did look in the other hive to get a frame of eggs but did not see any eggs. you could let them make thier own queen but you would lose a month of production time plus you woul;d have to have a really lot of bees in there for them to make a quality queen
@onacolasante58887 жыл бұрын
Tim, Maybe you have some advice for me and people who have had the same thing happen to them. Today I checked my six hives. Two suddenly were looking as though they had no bees in them. I opened them, almost no bees--only some that may have been robbing what little honey was in the hives. There was capped brood but no eggs, no larvae, certainly no queen. Dead bees all over the screened bottom board. Everything pretty much dead. One hive had one hive beetle, the other had a wax moth. My questions: 1. What do I do with the hive frames? 2. Will I ever figure out what went wrong? 3. How do I pick up the pieces and get these hives up and running again? Thank you, Ona
@WallsBeeMan7 жыл бұрын
You must get those hives in a freezer for say 3 days and when you take them out put a fan on them to dry any condensation then put them in a plastic bag. No one can really tell you what happend. Disapearing desease and mites most likely played a roll
@onacolasante58887 жыл бұрын
Tim, Do I scrape off all the old comb and capped brood first, cleaning the frames as well as possible, then freeze and dry them? Can I use them again immediately after that, say, if I am able to get a couple of nukes and queens? Thank you so much for your quick reply. I can't tell you how comforting it is to listen to your videos and to see how matter-of-fact you are about everything. I don't feel like such a failure when I listen to you, because I know just about everything that can happen to a beekeeper has already happened to you, and you're still going strong. Hi Tim, I just got out of my hive and it's full of bee's , but I cant find my queen and there is no eggs and larva . I just ordered a new queen from Kelly supply. Last week my hive was acting strange it seen as it the whole hive was out flying around or they were hanging all over the box. I am thinking something happened to my queen at that time. they were really aggravated two days in a row they did that, two to three times a day . They haven't acted like that since . Did I react to soon by ordering a new queen and what do you think about the way my bees were acting ?
@WallsBeeMan7 жыл бұрын
I can't guess. When the is a large number of bees flying around the front of the hive for a few minutes, this is play flight. It's the new bees leraning how to fly sort of. You have to find the queen before you introduce the new one. If you hive swarmed, you could have a virgin queen in the hive and that would account for your not seeing any eggs.
@charlessteed89383 жыл бұрын

Hi there. I'm a new beekeeper as of about a week ago! Is there a general guideline of how long can a hive go without a queen before installing a replacement queen is no longer an option?
@WallsBeeMan7 жыл бұрын
In my opinion a beekeeper can only guess the answer to your question. So, here is mine. 3 to 4 years. There are other factors involved. If it was bad rainy weather during the time the queen was to make her mating flights, she might not get mated good enough.
@cadeschalla60027 жыл бұрын
Love your videos! My hive swarmed and I caught the swarm and moved it to another location. It is doing well and growing fast. @WallsBeeMan7 жыл бұрын
with confidence I can tell you it is not the cold doing that. Two major suspects is mites and bad queen. Buy queens only from reputable breeders. Oxalic acid fumigation is believe to be the best treatment at this time for the mites

Maybe you mean, how low has a hive gone with the same queen that did not swarm or that I split or died out. I wish I remembered but I really don't. Generally speaking, it is said a queen can last 7 years but most of the time, I think 4 years is pushing it.

hi, i am new to bees. I bought new bee hive and it swarmed and i left over with only 4 bees in my hive! :( so the Q. here, what do you think will happen to these 4 bees? i noticed they were 3 males and one female (worker).
@WallsBeeMan5 жыл бұрын
If there is no queen in the bunch then the only way you can save the 4 bees is if there is another hive close by and you shake the 4 bees in the air and take away the wooden hive and those bees wonder into the neighboring hive.

@WallsBeeMan6 жыл бұрын
No, it doesn't concern me. It is not often that I don't get stung any. One average, I'd say from 5 to 20. I'm not a fast typist plus this is a hard question and it depends on the time of year. If there is a good honey flow on and they sun is shining, they most likely will be in their best mood but there are exceptions to everything. When I get out of the truck at my bee yard, sometimes I can get a sense their attitude right then. If a yard is kind of ill that day, often I would go to another yard and come back to this one another day. Reply ·

Why worker lay eggs? They can't make Queen?
@kennethdutton94267 жыл бұрын
SALLIE TILLMAN A worker lays unfertilized eggs and that would all be drones a drone has no father but has a grandfather
@patrickwalsh68737 жыл бұрын
They can't make a queen because they can't fertilise the eggs. But workers do have basic reproductive parts. The queen developed full reproductive parts before emerging, because she was fed strictly on royal jelly. Losing a queen means losing her pheromone influence in the colony. One of those influences is to suppress egg laying by workers. Without a queen, the workers attempt with the equipment they have, to keep the colony going. Anyway, they've never been on a mating flight so have no way to fertilise their eggs. Thus, they lay only drones.
@patrickwalsh68737 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I should also have added this - if a colony loses it's queen, they can make a new queen, from worker larvae. That's why the gentleman in the video talks about adding a frame of eggs from anther colony. Worker larvae up to two-days-old have been fed the same diet as a queen larva anyway, so can be made into 'emergency queens'.

Well, let me see what to say. Us beekeepers want an experienced Queen. Sometimes When you get what you wished for it isn't what you thought it would be.

Tim I had a couple questions. I just started 3 new hives with 5 frame nuke in each in 2 of them I added drawn out frames from a hive I had last year that deserted on me. My question is since I put drawn frames in in with the nukes should I go ahead and add the second box now?
@WallsBeeMan7 жыл бұрын
no. Wait till the have at leadtr 8 frames covered the move the two outside freames #1 & #10 inward one position then add the 2nd brood chamber

Walls Bee Man ok thanks. I also have a hive I started with a nuke about a week ago that I didn't find a queen in yet. Now I've only looked once and they seem to be doing good but I haven't found her. capped brood with good pattern and lots of larve. Should I worry yet. I'm going to look again tomorrow
