This was so helpful it’s really comforting to hear an audition experience from someone who isn’t like an expert at sight reading since I definitely am not & do you mind elaborating on the improv part lol

This was so helpful! I want to go to Berklee for songwriting and it’s been so hard to find info on what I should do and expect in an audition so thank you so much!!!

This was very helpful! I am a younger teenager who plays bass guitar, and going to this school is a dream of mine ( and of course I'm most anxious for the audition lol ). I really appreciate these videos! Thanks for making them! 💛

Notes: Tall posture -feet shoulder width apart in line with hips -stand up straight and keep chest slightly elevated Breath is the fuel for singing. - Diaphgram Hands around bottom of stomachs, shoulder and chest should not rise up. Stomach goes outward. Allow stomach to gradually come back in as you hold notes. If the bottom isn’t supported, top note will be strainy. Sing speaking voice strongly on bottom notes . Sing Higher notes: N-nasal sound gives something to hold onto. Find right vocal exercises that work for you to train your voice

Hi this was a great video. I am also really nervous about the sight reading part. Could you be more specific. Is it really wild intervals/notation? Lots of accidentals? And as for aural tests is it always just call and response?
@NatalieDelCarmen4 жыл бұрын
Hi! I'm so sorry it's taken me this long, I'm sorry if your audition has already passed! If not, sight-reading for voice has no WILD intervals or notations. As you get higher in level, it gets harder (with those things), and if you know your sight reading pretty well you may encounter some of those things (I did not)! And yes, it is usually call and response. Very individualized auditions, however, just my experience :)

Gosh I'm so excited, I'll be having my audition on nov 9th... A question- did you have any scholarships? I'm from Turkey, an international student, and as sad it sounds, no way I could ever study there unless I have a significant scholarship

Hey, for the improv section, how did you sing it? Did you have to come up with words or did you just hum or sing it on solfedge

Great video! Are you studying music performance or songwriting and composition? I’m a singer songwriter and not sure whether to look at performance courses or songwriting and composition
@NatalieDelCarmen4 жыл бұрын
i’m a songwriting major :) I recommend CWP if you like production more than writing, and production if that’s your main focus. songwriting focuses mainly on the writing part, a bit of production. hope this helped! xx

What if you write songs and sing and all but are not the best at playing an instrument ? Will this be an issue ? I create melodies in my head and write lyrics and sing but not necessarily a pro at an instrument 😕 I really want to go to this school but not sure what they expect
@fragux3 жыл бұрын
You can audition with voice and can use a backing track or instrument. You will solely be examinated on your vocal abilities and not the playing if you're auditioning for voice though.

Hey! Iam riyaa and iam a high schooling student. I will be gratuted by next year mean 2022. I am an writer by now i write books as well as songs. But i think of getting into Berklee but guess what I'm living in India. I just visted US like once. I literly don't have an idea of what it would be. I just used to write some songs and 20% knowledge about composing it. And 40% knowledge to sing it. Please do share me what else should i improve myself to get into Berklee. I really got a long time for my audition so i can improve it a lot better. So plese do tell me some. And congrats on getting into it... Hope you have a good time

HI! THIS VIDEO HELPED SO MUCH, my audition is the February, and am also applying as a songwriter in LA but am so torn on what to sing. I only write songs in indie folk but I don't have any songs that I feel are ready to perform. I talked with my singing teacher and she told me to sing a song from a musical but as much as I like the song, I feel like I would be comfortable covering a more folkish song idk idkkk because folk songs don't tend to have belting notes and it always feels like that's what people think of when they hear "showing off your voice" and so idk what to do😭Do you have any advice?

@@prashantranjitkar it went pre well! I’m a singer so it’s probably a lot different. The people you audition for are super kind and supportive even if you make a mistake. For me it was prepared piece/improv/ear training stuff then sight read. As long as you come in practiced I’m sure you’ll do amazing :) I’ll find out if I got in by the 30th

Hi, i'm thinking that i would like to apply for a career in songwriting at Berklee's but i do not write songs that many often, actually nowadays i don't write songs at all, i used to when i was younger but the thing is, i wanna learn how to be a great singer songwriter, so, do you think that i need to start writing songs every day or what would you recommend me to pass the audition?
