Matching Body Piece / Cuirass Next? What other ARMOR would you like to see?
@2rueblue
@2rueblue Жыл бұрын
I was watching the Blade series again what about the armor Blade uses throughout the series and or the armor the Dracula character has? That would be a lot of work though. The other would be anything from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. I understand this may be a path you don't walk but you did ask and I have broad enough shoulders to take a nope. Another fantastic show, I've said this before but I really appreciate being spoken to like an adult or a friend you don't bleep anything out and I guess it's because you know your audience. Amazing work and thank you so much for sharing your art with us all. As usual, all the very best from Scotland.

For armor, I think a helmet like a spangenhelm would be sweet. It would be more on the costume/larp side of things rather than sca though. For builds in general a turnshoe or boot pattern would be cool, the footwear can make or break a kit and it's usually the last thing people think about

I started using Citadel and Army Painter paints on my leather. I'm pleased with how well they apply and how good they look. Leadbelcher is one of my favorites.

These are sweet. I just made a set with leather and chain maille using mostly your techniques. Used an old pair of hockey shoulder pads as a template. Should be good for the medieval Stanley Cup!

Lovely piece of work there… learning atm and your work is really helpful in relation to the techniques you use. Wish I had found this interest in leather crafting 20 years ago. Now knocking on the door of 50, but I find this hobby a cathartic way to destress and chill whilst cutting, carving and hand stitching

Haven't been doing leather working for very long but I can definitely identify with the sewing machine and I'm using it. After making some bags and wallets I may try some elf armor since armor is one of the first things that interested me about leather.

My stepdad was a coach builder and customizer and one of the tricks with airbrushing is to use bits of any shite laying around to use as masking when you are spraying I don't mean shite shite I mean bits of card or in our case aluminum or steel sheet to hold over the design so you can achieve a straight edge without losing the fade you get from the spray. I'm probably not explaining it properly I will try and find you on Twitter or Instagram and share a vid or two to give you an idea of what I mean. A question have you ever tried to use a tattoo gun on leather I believe some artists practice on leather, it may be another tool you could use to further express your talent. Another huge thank you and another all the best from Scotland buddy.

Simple question, need to do hardening put in the oven to be armor right?
@DarkHorseWorkshop
@DarkHorseWorkshop Жыл бұрын
There's a few methods, you could oven it with water, or you could wax it. I wax armor for rattan combat because it's easy, but if it was for costume I'd never wax it, and if it was for hema using water and an oven would work best. But it's a PAIN IN THE BUTT... so be careful.

I don't cosplay, but watching you make this incredible armor, along with your other products you have made makes me want to go to a cosplay event, and find someone my size with your handy leather work, and pretty much hit them with the blunt side of my falling axe. And then just walk around my house in full armor for the rest of my life. 7:28

You can use hot water which if we're thinking about period techniques is a more likely way to do it. There's some resources online if you dig around, I should do a video on it some time.

Hey, just tried out leather working a few days ago and while punching holes in the leather I managed to take a few good chunks out of the workbench underneath (Granted the wood is old, and I am not sure the punches are all that great) Is there a particular material that works best as a backing for the hole punching stage? Or does workbench damage kind of come with the territory?

It could prove difficult but I haven't really tested it. This was certainly a costume first peirce of armor. I'd think more lance, spear, forward stabby stabb... pike type work. Overhead 2 handed sword not so much. But I could be wrong.
