My favourite buys of '24 - Cheaney Hurricane ii in Whiskey Kudu; Trickers Henry in 1001 Burnished; Private White VC Marine Parka; Private White VC Flight Jacket. I 100% agree with buying British where you can. No watch purchases last year but I'll be adding another Bremont to the collection for my 50th in a couple of months (I know you're not a Bremont fan). I'm now off to check out the Outdoor knitwear website 👍

I also bought a Jumper ( A navy submariner) from the same company where you got yours. I was limited to White or Navy and wanted a Claret colour Submariner so tried another British Company Gloverall (Jumpers made in UK) who were slightly more expensive but the quality and softness of the wool was incredible and worth the extra price.

I was gratified to see that you were able to recognise how wonderful it is where possible, to source quality British products. Actually it quite easy, as you mentioned in your great video that British Product are still some of the 'Gold Standard' in their chosen fields, clothing, footwear etc. My own particular favourite you mentioned is &Sons. I've been buying their products for a couple of years and yes I have a Carver Jacket in green, same as you. I've also bought their wonderful green peacoat, especially fortuitous given the current UK Weather! I've bought many items of theirs. Always well made, durable, smart functional and stylish and as with anything else, if you take care of the clothing or shoes etc they will last longer than me! (60yr old here lol) so something nice that my son can wear when the time comes, to remember his old man! haha All the best for 2025 Ash!

My wife gifted me two submariners from Outdoor Knitwear for Christmas. One in Ecru and one in Navy color. She had it shipped from the UK to the US. I was over the moon as I unwrapped these two great sweaters. They feel amazing and are of high quality. I will wear them at the beginning of the new year. It will be cold in the US Midwest. By the way, I understand Alex that he, was not into the family look and refused to wear the same sweater as his parents. I was the same way with mine at that age. 😄

I agree with your point of having most of your shoes at a certain level and then a smattering of very high quality/price options just to test the waters so to speak. Most of my footwear is Crockett and Jones (all purchased second hand), although I have one pair of Edward Green, and two pairs of Alden (one in Cordovan) which I attained to test the quality level and I'm glad that I did! My favourite purchase this year was also an update (albeit secondhand) of my very old and beloved Barbour Border. My watch purchase was not quite to your horological standards, but was a Seiko Willard that I truly adore and wear every weekend. Great summation and I definitely concur with the point about considering not just quality and longevity of clothing, but also of provenance and sustainability. Thanks again Ash and happy holidays!

I bought a Border coat over 30 yrs ago and it looks new, the only issue in town is the wax smell and touch. BTW your point on selecting clothes/items because of 'time of life' is very valid. I am 6 years older than you and have been selling clothes since the summer - including 10 pairs of shoes (my feet widened). I believe this process is known as the Swedish Death Clean! I recommend minimising everything as I have acquired a large collection in two properties and have started reducing a little late. The other piece of advice is to stick with rubber-soled shoes. The leather sole has too little grip. Another good vid. Cheers Steve

I do a similar review of products I bought over the last year on my blog.. It's fun. And I think people may get some value from longer-term use then a typical KZbinr who uses a product for a couple of weeks and does a review on it. You get no real insight to a product after that kind of time. I love the style of that Olympic sweater. Think I'm going to get one! I just started my watch collection and so far, have two Seikos. I have a Presage which is a lovely dress watch. My first mechanical watch I've ever purchased. It elevates my style which I've noticed from people. Have had it for 3 months. I bought a Seiko 5 Sports Field watch with a metal bracelet about 2 weeks ago. About $100 cheaper at about $220 USD. Not as classy as the Presage but still good enough for a suit. For some reason, I absolutely LOVE it. I wear it all the time. I've been trying to understand my fascination with it. I met a jeweler recently and talked to her about it. She said "It speaks to you. Don't try to understand it..." Probably the same way you feel about the Cartier. It simply speaks to you.

I've had a good year with pre-owned clothing and shoes. Only last week I found a pair of black semi-brogue Barkers in remarkably good condition for £8.50 from a charity shop, which I have polished to a very good shine and they are so comfortable. Then today a vintage tan Gianni Conti tuscany leather briefcase for just £30 from one of those vintage emporiums, and it still has the key. Gorgeous briefcase, incredibly practical and so beautifully made. Finding top quality pre-owned when you're not even looking for anything specific really puts the fun back into shopping.

Ash, Old American bachelor here. I've been using the Guerlain Habit Rouge Eau De Toilette for some time now. I bought it in my quest to find another cologne by this same company that I used in the 1990's. Unfortunately this wasn't it but everything you have said about it is true. It does have a certain sophistication that demands attention but in the most subtle way. I sometimes even use it around the house when I need a boost other than caffeine. I'm a newbie to your videos but I also watched the Lapidus Pour Homme which I've never tried. Great video by the way. Hope you are doing well. Thank you.

If you talking about the British Army Woolley Pulley, I can tell you a interesting story about this item. Over decade ago, I noticed that in Israel their troops in the Winter months, wore the above item. Chatting to Israeli citizens, I found out that the Israeli captured several thousand of these Woolley Pulleys during their excursion into Lebanon in the eighties. Not only did they issue them to their own troops, but copied the design.

2024 I invested heavily in my wardrobe - 8 tweed jackets (all vintage but in mint condition) , a made-to-measure Suitsupply wool-silk-linen summer suite and quite a few pairs of footware. The biggest investment though went to British-made shoes and boots - brown Crockett & Jones Isley boots, black Triclers Harry Dealer boots, dark brown Loake Emsworth Chelsey boots, quite a few pairs of shoes from Loake, Barker, Grenson. I also got some beautiful Aran cable knit wool and merino wool sweaters from Ireland. It was a heavy investment but for every item I had a good deal either as factory seconds, pre-owned or some good discount. All the items are from reputable producers and really high quality and should out last me. My wardrobe is a capsule one so I have endless combinations and don't have to put any money or effort into it for years to come other than maintenance. To be honest, your KZbin channel (and few others) had a huge input to all of this. Thanks a lot and have an even better year 2025!

I paid maybe £250 for eight in number different coats and that included a couple of the old type Solway Zippers. Saying this I hardly wear any of them because of one big flaw. That is a lack of pockets. It's alright having big poacher pockets etc. But a couple of large zipped inner pockets for a wallet etc. is essential. What do you do when you finish your outdoor activities? You go in the village pub or wherever. Where is your wallet? I wouldn't trust any of my Barbours with a wallet after walking miles over the countryside. No safe inside pocket! The Beaufort model you sport has a small sort of zipped lapel pocket. Not much good for anything but a mobile phone. By the way Barbours always feel better worn. Buy second hand - the watching and bidding is great fun too.

Outdoor Knitwear is more affordable than another good brand you like. Even for our exchange rate, their sweater would cost around $200, local sweaters made of British wool (of which I have 3) are closer to $300. I think this is the first affordable UK brands. I have seen two British jackets being worn recently, a Barbour (seen a few used but seldom worn around) and Stone Island. I love seeing British items creeping into our Canadian lifestyle. I bought my Barbour in 2024, three British wool jumpers, and some UK made wool dress socks. A French chore coat was from my first trip to French speaking Montreal.

The burgundy Museum calf looks awesome. do you need those, I’ll even give you $100 to buy them and you can give me back later on this year lol. Those are amazing. Don’t want them to go out of business.

My philosophy exactly. Even Doc Martens, I only buy the shoes that are made in England. I think its easier to buy "made in UK", then it is in US. You really have to dig and read the labels here. When you do buy "made in US/UK" it makes you feel good. The bonus is that the presentation that the item comes in is always superior. Ok, to get off my soap box. Does wax cotton items have a smell about them and do you have to treat annually?

I bought a Barbour Ashby not UK made but not made in an unfriendly state either. I love it. Quality still there and a nice fit. Bought a pair of Loakes Pegasus this year. Love them too. I get the UK made insistence but it's rare even with heritage brands see Dr Martens. As long as the quality remains and there are no sweatshop elements, I'm in. G

You propably know this that Bond wore Sanders & Sanders chukka boots in "Spectre" in the London scenes at the end? I actually bought the after I found out about this. They are very comfortable, but not very durable. I was wearing them for the 3rd time when their sole came. You should watch a video about them in the "The Bond experience" chanel.

Ash, what is the sizing like on the Outdoor Knitwear Olympic. Their size chart seems to jump 4” from small to medium. Your size info should help decide on correct size🙂

Kudu is the leather of an African antelope and is highly prized in shoe production due to its qualities. Very good leather if you can get it.

I`m 100% with you on the made in "allied" countrys aproach. The worst thing these days is sometimes even expenisve stuff is made in questionable countrys, funny enough on the other hand is that older and, or smaller companies not rarely produce local and to similar prices if not cheaper than some big (luxury) company. I hate it when i want to buy a "real british, italian, swiss etc" product, just to read made in china on it! I also bought myself a Barbour (Bedale) this year, incredible jacket. The versatility is of this jacket is (probably) unmatched. What other jacket can be worn over a suit and on the farm while feeding the cattle? A true British classic.

Trickers Boots are very nice. I don't even mind that good quality boots are slightly under £600 (I own something similar for the last 5-6 years now the Crockett & Jones Dark Brown Scotch Grain Islay Boot, cost about £510 back then, I think they have gone up to £620-ish now) because if I look after them like polish them before use, dry and clean after use, use wooden shoe trees while on the shoe rack they will see the duration of my life, even when the hard wearing dainite sole starts to wear out, i can either sent them back to crockett&Jones for a sole replacement or get the local cobbler to do it and they come back looking brand new. Boots for life essentially, well worth the money, far better than buying £100+ trainers once or twice a year every year.

i love Trickers - and i bought 2 pairs of boots this year (my first by them, tho, i bought my lady a pair the other Christmas..).. my first pair was the ethan monkey boots red funchal with a white sole - perfect for the summer and they were reduced to £375, and at the beginning of december i bought a pair of Stow country boot in the red calf with the dainite soul, again they were reduced to 375 - but when i paid there was a black friday reduction of 20% which took them down to £300...real bargain and a true statement boot! they'll get even better when they patina a bit.. they still have a sale on now.. and as you know i have 2 &sons carver jackets (think i mentioned them to you?) - tan and green...love them both, but the green one goes really well with my new boots!

@TheChapsGuide
@TheChapsGuide Ай бұрын
The Olympic is more refined, more appropriate for normal daily use. The AB sweater is truly a magnificent piece, but perhaps more useful in extreme conditions. The AB sweater is also oiled wool, so it feels slightly slick and smells of the countryside (lanolin).

Re: Habit Rouge. I’ve owned several bottles. Marvelous stuff, but I sense it’s best worn on an evening out with a suit and a beautiful woman on your arm. There’s another scent that fits into that ecological niche I’m fond of and since you’re a collector you might look into - Le Troisieme Homme by Caron. You know their “Pour un Homme?” That was a “blueprint” for this. It’s got lavender and vanilla, all right, but some florals, citrus, and a solid base of moss and leather. And there’s a pun in the name. It’s the third male scent in their line so they named it after the Orson Welles character, and it’s what might be worn by a raffish gentleman of fortune.

I find the idea of a luxury chore coat amusing. My father was a tradesman. He wore a denim chore coat during the cooler months. When I was young and working in the mining industry, I typically wore my brown duck canvas chore coat. These weren't cheap garments, but they were a far cry from luxury goods.
