For the wealth/ social class divide, I feel like that’s one of Durhams biggest issues. Durham is no. 1 when it comes to accepting people from Private school (at almost 40% of all students) meaning all them people payed for their schools previously which results in obviously a lot of people being that typical “posh/ upper class person”. I’m going to Durham uni next sept/oct as someone from a VERY working class area and I can’t wait to see the difference between students haha

yea, it's mad the number of people i know from very wealthy backgrounds and private education. for me, i take it as an ego boost, knowing they invested so much into their education and still ended up at the same school i did.

also congrats on being accepted!!!

Hi, can you please guide me which city/Uni to opt for. I'm coming in Sept intake on dependant visa while my spouse is the main applicant, we have applied to many unis and got offers from Durham, U of Birmingham, U of Sheffield, York, Liverpool, Cardiff, Queens Belfast etc My spouse is doing MA in Education where as I'm looking forward to get a job in the construction industry since I'm a civil engineer with 3 years experience. Can you please guide me which place would be best for us? We are confused between Durham and York since we received good scholarships from both (Durham is costing 16.5k where as York is costing 12.2 after scholarship) Durham is very reputable uni compared to York but I'm afraid I won't be able to find a job there although Newcastle is close by on the other hand York is costing us slightly cheaper but the ranking is not as good as Durham and Cost of living is a bit high as well. Please looking for your guidance. Thanks

hi zarak, durham and york definitely have their upsides and downsides. i would say it would be easier for you to find work in durham given the proximity of newcastle. that being said im not familiar with the construction industry so im not sure what the job opportunities are like here at the minute. the cost of living in durham is lower than york but durham is a lot smaller so that would just have to be something you would have to keep in mind. it’s all really a balancing act of prestige/cost/opportunities for you guys and i hope my advice helps a bit
