It's not all AKME's fault. They have their hands tied with not being able to go over the cap space (ownership) and many of the Bulls players did underachieve and/or got injured last year. I still think the Vucevic trade was good at the time, and as much as I loved Lauri (I never gave up on him and think it was Boylen's coaching that stunted his growth), it was time for him to move on. And I'm happy for him and hope he has many more All-Star appearances.

The Lauri shit has to stop as you could say the same about the Cavs giving up on him. Also here is the reality look at where Utah is with Lauri if they didn't pay him he was going to be TRADED again. Lauri is a empty stats guy that puts up big numbers on bad to mediocre teams. The Jazz haven't gone anywhere fast with him.

I agree with all the points you made, especially about Lauri. I remember the last few months leading up to the Bulls trade of Lauri to Cleveland (where he didn't exactly blossom into an All star his lone season there, either), a lot of Bulls fans were calling him something along the lines of a waste of time and/or talent and they wanted him to be traded...very similar to what is happening with Patrick Williams now. Not saying I think PWill is going to end up being as good as Lauri, but just comparing the ways that they've been treated here in Chicago because they didn't immediately become all-stars. Seems like a lot of Bulls fans (myself included sometimes when the young guys struggle to put together consistent stretches of good basketball) aren't patient with our young guys and when the fan base of the 3rd biggest market in basketball starts complaining about them, I'd guess it affects them a little bit regardless of whether or not they admit it.

So the Ricky O'Donnell list is mostly valid. 1. The Vooch trade came at a time where the Bulls SHOULD have been building through the draft We gave up multiple first round picks to land Vooch...who doesn't really seem to be inspired to play the game ever regardless of stat line. 2. The P. Will draft was not good. The need at that time was a solid PG and Haliburton was right there. They gambled on P. Will because he reminded them of Kawhi. 3. LaVine was gonna get paid regardless. 4. They should have made trades following the 22/23 season when DeMar and Vooch had higher value. 5. He just doesn't like Giddey...that trade was actually decent when you look at the nightly production of both. 6. For good measure should be Billy Donovan, but the Reinsdorfs probably have more to do with him overstaying his welcome than AK.

Nobody knew he would decline like he did and this is the first year it actually feels like we got Orlando Vuc.

Yes yes yes. Thank you for having actual common sense!! I agree with literally everything you said here. All I would add is that many in the FO actually did push for taking Haliburton at 4 but they passed on him knowing they could get Lonzo (they def didn’t tamper tho…). No one could’ve seen the catastrophic injury coming though and you always go for the proven asset over a rookie work in progress. Also in regards to the Vuc trade, no one ever talks about how there’s no guarantee Chicago would’ve drafted Franz. On top of that Wendell Carter was traded because he was never healthy and when he was on the court he only gave effort 50% of the time. His stint in Orlando has been *checks notes* exactly the same 😂

Regarding the Vuc trade, hadn't the Bulls made that trade, LaVine would have walked out on Free Agency and set the Bulls back years in another rebuild. And given that the young players, as you stated, were underperforming, note sure if it would be the best option. What I think messed with the Bulls plans was the Lonzo situation. Lonzo was the guy AK wanted to build the Bulls around. So they waited as much as they could? Too long? Perhaps, but I always got the feeling they have been deceived by the ownership and thought they were able to operate over the cap, but when came time to do it, they weren't able and that really limited their options. As for the draft of Patrick Williams, knowing what we know now, getting Tyrese Haliburton would have been great, but years after the fact everyone is the greatest at drafting.
@robkelly89403 күн бұрын
I love this video. I hate revisionist history as if AKME knew what was going to happen after he made the decisions he made but made them anyway. Everything AKME did made sense at the time. Did he keep the LaVine, Vuc, DeRosen core too long, yes. But even that I don’t blame AKME for. Here’s my theory on that one. I think AKME would have started making changes as soon as they realized Lonzo wasn’t coming back in 2022-23, but by that point to do what they ultimately did this summer seemed like a bad idea to ownership. Ownership was looking for a new TV rights deal at the time and told AKME to hold onto the core to ensure they got as many wins as possible until they got a new tv rights deal to get as much money as possible. If you don’t believe that, go back and look what happened this past summer, bye bye NBC Sports Chicago, enter CHSN. Can I prove that, no, but it makes complete sense to me as it’s the only reason AKME would hold onto that core for as long as he did when it didn’t make sense otherwise

Yeah I def liked the initial Vooch trade. Most people liked it. But what have they done since? You mentioned “big market team”, what have they done? They have done nothing. They let Drummond go for free, they basically let Demar go instead of trading him earlier, same with Zach. Than they did completely miss on 4th overall pick and that’s what’s pissing me off the most, I clearly remember it as if it was yesterday, every single NBA and Chicago outlet had the Bulls drafting Haliburton…. Except our amazing intelligent front office. Than they secretly extended Billy, I mean how shady is that. Then they gave Vooch 60 mil contract. Than they gave Pat Will 90 mil 5 year contract 🤦🏻♂️. Lauri was given away for free because they had no vision or patience. Than the Caruso trade. What exactly have they done as a big market team? He should have absolutely been fired a long time ago! And if this was a competent or competitive organization they would have been! Bulls have been mediocre for 90% of the time AKME has been running things! In which fantasy world would they still have a job? All this I mentioned is context. I agree with Ricky 90%. They had to give Zach that contract. Organization has already been proven cheap so that contract had to happen. But what else was Ricky wrong about? I see no lie. The fact is this organization is perfectly fine with being 7-10th every. single. year. And now they are ok in giving away a top 10 pick in a stacked draft. That is just insane to me! You need a superstar to contend, and Bulls have no superstars! What is the future??? Show me a path to a championship contention? Because sure as hell it’s not on this roster! Maybe if we’re lucky Buzelis breaks out.

My biggest takeaway from your video is why are draft picks allowed to be continuously devalued year over year if they're not exercised? The intuition to me is that the longer you wait for a pick, the more valuable it should become, not less. What is this NBA GM logic that I'm not understanding?
@zayover1934 күн бұрын
We need to lose not to much but to stay within the top ten picks,y’all are all confused 🤔. Y’all want a chance at flag but don’t want to be bad enough to get him wow 😮 I have never. I don’t care for this season if I was in charge the bench would be the starter’s and the starters the bench to develop my young players, and to see what we are truly working with I would experiment with different lineups and different combinations of players to get better, but not losing our pick to the spurs 😊.

AKME has made a lot of horrible moves. the worst move they made was philosophical. they put together the worst 3 point shooting team in the NBA when it was clear as day that we had entered the 3 point era. i am glad they are now at least building a 5 out, pace and space team. i don’t actually fault them for not wanting to tank and lose 60 games every year. losing sucks. just imagine if they had traded lauri and picks to get donovan mitchell.

What AK has done is only surpassed by what he hasnt done. What is his plan to build a contender? He doesnt have one. Nothing else matters. GM malpractice. You dont need to go over the cap to build a team. Maybe to keep one. But you've got to work to build one first.

This is going to be easy. I will only talk about one topic Vucevic. Yes everybody was all in with this deal including me and Ricky O'Donnell. We wanted a franchise center or at least a big upgrade and we got it. Unfortunately we didn't have a franchise coach who decided to build the team around Lavine and DD. The offense should of been built around Vucevic instead Billy Donovan that master strategist wasted Vucevic's talent by surrounding him around the 3pt line. As for Franz Wagner the Bulls would of never drafted him because if they were Hot for him they would of DRAFTED him. Why even make that trade if you are Hot for Wagner. Vucevic a good offensive player who was used wrong but the fault here is our great coach. As for his defense it's hideous I've seen trees move better.

You can blame you can hate AK all you want, but what no one is talking about is the ownerships plant that has set this team back for decades regardless of what the general manager and president are doing and that’s Billy Donovan no matter what trades or draft picks that AK make as long as Billy Donovan is that coach for that team and that organization They are going nowhere. This team has been below 500 ever since he became the head coach when that Core was created with Lonzo Ball and they had that nice record that was not Billy Donovan that was all Lonzo ball soon as he went down with the injuries they fell off. Billy Donovan‘s coaching was on display right then and there He’s a plant set there by the ownership to create friction with Zach Levine, so they can get out of his contract with a trade. And as far as Voch is concerned, hell all European players don’t play defense he’s just as terrible as every last one of them past and present,
@pickleballroadlesstraveled4 күн бұрын
Well he mortgaged the bulls future a few yrs ago overpaying and now trying to go young to protect his job….the bulls are ok this year but let’s be real….the Gm and coach have been terrible.
@franklinscarlett96984 күн бұрын
But please STOP TALKING ABOUT LAURI......the only reason he was even made a starter was because of Bobby Portis...........the guy wanted nothing to do with the organization before AK came and then the moves he made pushed him out the door. Look I agree with them trading him. He had ZERO trade value and they were lucky.....some of this folks that write for pro basketball need to have there laptops confiscated. Some of these folks if they had a way to ban etc etc all for it............

@ yea but he was part of the moves that came with the blockbuster vooch trade.. he was traded to the wizards.. for almost nothing in return and sure some were excited but that was mostly media and some affiliated channels.. True fans.. said it wasnt enough and ultimately did very little bringing in an aging center to pair with a ball dominant aging forward.. and injury prone lonzo
@franklinscarlett96984 күн бұрын
Why make this video???? The Vuc trade yes it should have been made however Carter was terrible but what hurt him was the Ball injury no point.....Please stop talking Lauri. He had to leave because Boylan, Garpax destroyed this guy confidence on the organization REMEMBER the interviews he did, the Patrick Williams pick at No. 4 yes you can say that but that was bad draft but the draft is crap shoot......Zach Levine. I have said this again again if they were going to pay him build a team around him but again the Ball injury hurt no point guard then what team did they really really build. As far as holding on to the core you got to blame Reinsdorf because personally i think because he did not want to go over the cap. The Giddy trade. The team needs a point guard. He does fit this but a lot of deficiences.
