My Biggest Regrets from College // What I Would Do Differently Now

"In the end, we only regret the chances we didn't take." I'm telling y'all- college literally flies by!!!! It's a unique time in life when you'll be presented with such special opportunities. Looking back, there are definitely some things I regret not doing, so I hope that y'all can learn from my experience and take advantage of these chances if you're still in school!!

Something I've learned in my own life recently is that we are all on different timelines (school, relationships, jobs, kids, etc.) and in some ways you might feel "ahead" of others, but in others you might feel like you're "falling behind." I'd encourage you not to get stuck in the mindset that you're behind anyone because I think it's SO AWESOME that you're choosing to go to school (no matter what age)!!! Check out Blair Fowler's videos because she is 25 and also going back to school! Best of luck to you!!! ❤️

My BSN is taking me longer than I want it to ("should" have graduated last month...), which leads me to one thing I regret more than anything else out of college, I guess you can say so far. My biggest regret from college is not taking care of myself (especially my mental health) right out of the gates. I had struggled with an eating disorder in the past, and all of the stress of nursing school/college life triggered a relapse during my first semester, which was Fall of 2015, that I am still struggling with today. It has made focusing on schoolwork and clinicals harder than it should be, because I didn't just go seek help right when I felt myself starting to fall back into those behaviors. Secondly, I regret not going to church more. My (now former) university didn't have a very large LDS population, so I didn't feel like I had anyone to go to services especially at the Philadelphia LDS temple with. I feel like that could have helped me tremendously, strengthening my faith more right when things were starting to fall apart. But I'm just grateful to God that I'm back to going to church every week, because it has made all the difference these last 3.5 months! Take care of yourselves guys; of course high marks on exams and papers are important to get the degree you're working so hard for, but NEVER sacrifice you mental and physical health to get there! I'm about to go into my senior year and I although I haven't finished college, I have some of the same regrets. I definitely wish I had studied abroad, but my hope is to live abroad for a year sometime in the first 5 years after college (to kinda compensate for that). I also wish I journaled more - I probably have 10 or so entries (maybe) from my first 3 years and I really wish I had more. But I'm trying to get better about making time for that. On the flip side, I'm already planning on doing two of the things you wish you had done - taking fun classes and having a fun minor! I'm taking a summer class now so I'll have 2-3 fun classes my senior year which I'm stoked about (but there's too many fun classes to take haha). And I'm an engineering major, but have a poly sci minor even though it probably won't help me in my career. It's fun just to learn about something your passionate about when you can, even if you won't use it!

Wow- I hope you have the best senior year ever!! I feel you on the living abroad- that would be so cool to do post-grad as well! And yes you should definitely make time to journal!!! You'll thank yourself later :) And your minor- that's SO COOL! I think in the long run you'll definitely be glad you did that for yourself (along with the fun classes) :))

I only have a year and a half left of college so I definitely need to keep these things in mind! The friends and freshman year tip was spot on. By the end of my 1st semester everyone had established groups. While I love my friends it felt reminiscent of high school. I do feel trapped a bit my social structures.

Enjoy the last year and a half- it'll fly by faster than you could believe!! And I totally feel ya girl. There's definitely opportunity to continue making new friends by joining new clubs/getting outside of your normal zone of involvement and activities, but it's definitely harder as time goes on. Just be sure to take advantage of all the cool new opportunities that come your way!
