Many years ago, I went to an Urban Outfitters and while window shopping extremely overpriced clothes, I heard this hypnotizing sound. I couldnt figure out if it was, a guitar, a synth or a voice sample. Then I heard this sort of suuuuper reverby wet voice almost incomprehensible, jump on the song. I wish I could have afforded a phone with Shazam at that time, but instead I had to swallow my "coolness" and ask one of the workers there if she knew what was the song playing in the backround. She replied "Oh, I think it's My Bloody Valentine" That night I listened to every single record of theirs I could find on the internet. It changed my life. By the way the song I heard that day was "I Only Said"

hey that's so funny you say that. for those of us who were into it at the time, it was really bc we felt that we just weren't being represented by the crappy spandex and big hair bands of the late 80s, so we definitely felt like WE were born in the wrong place and time. There wasn't much music like this around. At all. Creation and 4AD were doing some really incredible stuff and if you look at the longevity of Primal Scream you'll understand why the history of rock matters ; ) stay cool xoxo

Their music transcends time. It's like nothing else. The music in the charts today is completely irrelevant. I saw them in 1991 on the Loveless tour in Newcastle. I was 18. Now I'm 48 and if anything I appreciate the soundscapes even more.

Sean Cox epitome of esoteric.A beautiful wrinkle in time that can't be replicated and should have ended with the world tour. As I now look back the band as a whole was genius Shields genius proved not with last release he no longer possessed creative ability, sticking to same formula of loveless exposing a pitiful weakness and tarnished genius. When adding everything up it damaged them greatly,Once thought of as legendary to not anymore. But I digress. K.S. Is no guitar God, legend, or genius.. creating a technique producing tones/sounds uheard before. He and the band created breathtaking,exciting,moving,life-changing, brill. music of great beauty. A decade or so later he cheapened it made it less than spectacular and left us feeling duped,confused and a sense of loss and grief. Left wondering what the fuck happened.
@oDTRT7 жыл бұрын
Johnny Thunders Fuck are you talking about dramatic nerd? Yeah, MBV used the same formula as loveless but that formula is timeless, and the album is arguably better. Had intense ringing in my ears for five days after witnessing MBV in 2008, it was worth it. I heard their gigs were at around 130 decibels, or approaching the levels of a jumbo jet taking off. The Red Cross were there handing out earplugs, only time I've seen that. EDIT: I should have said that it FELT like it was worth it when I was a teenager. Hurting your hearing is NOT cool. I damaged my hearing at another concert to the degree that I had hellish tinnitus for half a year. I'm not encouraging that.
@ashleymonday2984 жыл бұрын

Wake up, don't fear I want to love you Yeah, doll of pain I let you get to me Come back, don't be Afraid of me soon That I'll harm you Your eyes are blue, blue jewels Come back, have faith Someone like you Can find the reason Of what I did to you Wake up, don't fear I want to love you Yeah, doll of pain I let you get to me I did't see the lyrics anywhere so I went over a copy and pasted for you guys.

love, love MBV!!! It's totally like, a collective nod to one another, yeah, we all get it, and you all don't! !! what ma NY cast off as mindless noise,, I hear genius, and loud tranquility. ..it somehow induces a relaxation response for me... love it

I think that a large reason that MBV didn't obtain the success that they deserved, if they wanted it, is because of the airy vocals that were probably more about feeling than lyrical depth. That's what I love about them is that feeling of musical luminosity that they give to the listener. It's almost like shooting heroin in your ear while peaking on acid. Not this song, but "Sometimes" just makes me want to melt through the speakers into their world. And I do

To think, this song and probably Loveless, wouldn't have been made without hip-hop and Public Enemy's inspiration. Direct from Kevin's mouth. Amazing.

MBV was the best shoegaze band because they had a lot of variety and didn’t just stick to the “pretty, sad” stuff all the time. This song is such an interesting blend of genres and the emotions it evokes are quite obscure, which is why I think it lives on
