I've spent my whole life in Utah and have been buying whiskey here for 10 years. Don't bother with the state liquor stores and head straight to High West, either the distillery or saloon in Park City. I also recommend Outlaw Distillery in Salt Lake for some great locally made bourbons.

I live in Utah and I have gotten extremly lucky with Stagg, Blantons, and the lottery they do every now and then. I also shop on Hill AFB and I get my Russell's 13 there easily. Many states are better than Utah but if you live here and know how to track the bottles from the warehouse its really not a bad place for bourbon.

With the black current mixer I would say try it in a Rob Roy 2 oz Scotch .5 oz of sweet vermouth, 2 dashes of bitters, I would switch out the sweet vermouth for the black cherry/current

You need to try the 8 yr Bourbon (Rye) from wilderness trail distillery in Danville Ky. The distillery is like nothing you’ve seen with collaborative fellowships for researchers at the University of KY. One of the owners was a medical school professor of mine, Dr Heist. He’s a brilliant guy mixing technology and innovation with that distillery. They’ve won multiple awards.

Got a bottle of Eagle Rare at Albertsons/Safeway last month in N. Seattle, 35.99$ on sale from 50$. Felt like a fever dream walking out of the store. Went back the next day and ended up chatting with the customer service manger, had him look up the stocking docs. 1 bottle a year. I asked if he could look up what other stores get them... best performing stores get the allocated stuff, go figure. Changes from month to month. Before anyone says he takes them for hisself, he had no idea what allocated even meant, some dorky, late 20 sumpin kid who admittedly plays computer games and doesn't drink (could be lying,). He told me straight up he hasn't a care in the in the world as long if it sells, FOR ANY PRODUCT. I was like damn. If I got this bottle randomly then, they MIGHT no be abusing the system. A win is a win at the end of the day, can't look too much into it after all. Luck is a cruel mistress.

I like Buffalo trace better than BH, but I like the BH more than something like the base bottle of Four Roses.... what am I missing?
