I LOVE this movie!!! It reminds me of my childhood, cause this was always playing on HBO, Cinemax, etc., back when I was a kid, & I watched it constantly. I would fantasize that I was Johnny, & this girl that I was crushing on at the time, was Missy. Lol, anyways, it is so insane to learn that this was filmed in Texas, as I live in Texas, & I have an uncle that lives in Round Rock. I think the 50s style neighborhood in the film, was done on purpose, & gives the film this weird, but awesome surrealism. Oh, I own Class of 1999 & Parents, & think both films are awesome. Oh, I also appreciate the Clarrisa Explains it All reference you snuck in there, lol.

I love this movie too! I think it's got a weird mix of intentional camp, straight-faced delivery, and satire that makes most people just not get it. Especially because there weren't any really good horror comedies that had become hits like Shaun of the Dead yet, so people had trouble with it. Or they saw the title and the poster thought it just looked dumb.

3:45 -- Funny stuff, and the thing I had entirely forgotten about this film is that the director is Bob Balaban. This crosses it over into true Weirdsville in the Meta, since one of Balaban's best early roles is Orr, in "Catch-22". Looks like he really did know how to survive...

I heard that the theme of the movie is that of being standard teen film tropes. Such as Johnny's craving to eat his date is a metaphor for teenage sexual activity, and his fear of decomposition is teenage anxiety over acne. As a zombie, Dingle is discriminated against and ostracized, which is meant to show zombies as outsiders

It really did have a "Parents" feel... it was a really fun movie. But I only heard of this film because of this channel... I paused pretty early in because I just wanted to go enjoy the film. I returned to watch the rest of what you had to say and though I'm thankful that you sort-of recommended a film, that I really enjoyed, I think that you give away too much of the plot without dissecting what makes it worth while. I highly recommend rethinking your format. Thanks for the movie recommendation though :D

Interesting how you mention Edward Hermann was Herman Munster out of makeup because eventually HE WAS! About ten years after this he starred in an unsold pilot movie for a Munster's revival as Herman, and the actor who played Murray the groundskeeper played Grandpa! At one point in the movie there is a sort of reunion, when Hermann's Herman has a job as a waiter at a restaurant and the 4 surviving original Munsters at the time, are in character but out of makeup as his customers.
