I strongly recommend going back to the beginning and doing their discography chronologically, because seeing their evolution and how they got here is truly fascinating

I-Dle have so many good b-sides, it's a good idea to check full albums instead of just title tracks. Actually, my top I-Dle songs are all b-sides 🙂

Revenge is about a Domestic Violence and internet/reallife bullies. If you see the official sotry board video, you will understand. Shuhua plays 2 roles, an investigator/detective and the victim of DV.

Y’know I was not a huge fan of Super Lady when it came out. I liked it, but I would’ve ranked it fairly low amongst (G)I-dle title tracks. But I just saw them in concert last night, and Super Lady is something else live. Got me rethinking some things.

Super Lady is specificly produced as a concert opener. Soyeon knew IDLE needs a song like this.

"I never die" was their first full album... no skips. It was their first album after losing member Soojin to a (bullshit) scandal and after the group took over a year away from group activities because of that scandal. The album marked a bolder sound for the group and a desire to flip the script on societies treatment of women in Korea. Several songs relate indirectly to Soojin. Contractually, the remaining members aren't allowed to talk about Soojin or the situation surrounding her dismissal, but they regularly allude to her in song lyrics and music videos. Many in the fandom (Neverlands) hope to see a reunion with Soojin during the groups next contract in 2025, which will (hopefully) be with a different management company.

Absolutely agree, and a quick elaboration to TJK. Two things to appreciate if you really want to understand (g)i-dle: (1) it's a cliche, but Soyeon really is a genius. In addition to being a performance all-rounder, she writes, composes, produces and comprehensively guides the group's vision and messaging. Soyeon is also a leader of the group in a sense that goes way beyond what is usual in k-pop. She clearly takes responsibility for the improvement and well-being of the members as well as the group's overall commercial success. (2) Soojin's departure wounded the group deeply, in multiple ways, and the members resentment does not appear to have faded with time. Put those two things together and I don't think anyone other than Soyeon could have fashioned the kind of response that (g)i-dle implemented to Soojin having been forced out, especially by incorporating the messaging, as @babette5918 noted, that kept Soojin alive and validated in the hearts of attentive fans while skirting the limits of what the members could not expressly say. "Revenge," with the mv dropping exactly 100 days after Soojin's solo re-debut, was pretty much the culmination of that effort. The whole story of what happened with Soojin is way too involved to go into in meaningful detail in a comment. However, for a little more insight specifically into "Revenge," I recommend the analysis at kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJysiaSagNd1hbs. (No one should feel limited; there are multiple analysis videos out there in youtube land.) Cheers

@@tocsla Wow, I think I just met my "Neverland" soul mate! Tell me that you are a Soyeon ult. bias too!
@tocsla21 күн бұрын
@@babette5918 I'm always happy to encounter a kindred spirit! That said, I'm cautious about the term 'bias,' since that can carry a broad set of implications. lol I will say that my admiration for Soyeon's talent, skill and accomplishments is off the chart. Plus, I expect she's had to fight for everything at pretty much every step. She's amazing. And you may already be familiar, but let me recommend a couple of things. First, youtuber John Kim (Komerican-OG) is a translator who has lived in the U.S. and Korea, and he is a big fan of (G)i-dle and Soyeon. He has done a number of 'deep dives' into the 'accurate' translations of the Korean lyrics of (G)i-dle songs, and he has confirmed my suspicions that her writing is brilliant when properly appreciated in her native language. Also, have you seen Soyeon's youtube program in her alter-ego of Chef Sso? It's pretty wonderful. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4u6aGN8ppqpbZo Cheers

@@tocsla Yes, I have watched everything for both of those. I'd like to reccomend Ray Ricci, Chain Reactions, Lauren Claire, and Sylver Reacts as good thoughtful places for (G)I-dle reaction/commentary content. Oh! and ReactToTheK for reactions from students at a music school on (G)I-dle productions. Spoiler... they love Soyeons work.

7 days , Vision - produced and written by Minnie. Rollie and Doll - Produced and written by Yuqi. Every other track produced and written by Soyeon.

despite the comments saying to go in chronological order, I think going in reverse is very interesting - seeing what they became and then discovering where they came from. your call. regardless, when you get to "I LOVE" (the album with NXDE as the title track), Soyeon has recommended listening to those tracks in reverse.

There was a follow-up video released for "Revenge", called "Revenge : Case File (G)", that explains the video from the perspective of the investigator "S". Also, almost any Guide for I-DLE is useful, though my favorite was "CUBE's Secret Weapon", which is a fan-made vid that details their origins and up to the "I Burn" era and the pandemic. It'll give you a good background on each member, and their rise from obscurity. Also, watch their "Killing Voice" performance from a year ago, it'll give a good perspective of their Title tracks through the years, with some key B-Sides, and display both their talents as vocalists, and how much fun they have with their own music. Lastly, each track on this album has a story behind it, each has meaning and history. =)
