Good shout on the 16" wheels. I swapped the wheels on my Up GTI to 16" a couple of years back. It made a massive difference to the handling, with the stock springs/dampers. It removed the crashiness, and meant I can drive it without having to keep an eagle eye out for potholes etc :)

I own a corrado vr6 and the sound from the engine is addictive- watching and listening to your driving clip reminds me of the vr6 growl. Id love to hear one in real life and indeed, drive one. 👍🏻

ha! I had one of these until just over a year ago, sold it and bought an ‘08 Land Rover Defender (I know, I know). Great little car - just does what you need it to and doesn’t ask for much, is cheap to tax, will do 50+ mpg, sounds lovely with the actuator thing - I wish more car companies would use this simple, less is more formula. Mine was black with cruise + park and an other pack I can’t remember, the panoramic roof was the one thing I wish it would have had. My one criticism of the car and one of the reasons I parted with it, was the seats - they look great, but have little to no lumbar support, I found it quite uncomfortable on longer journeys. You can get the centre console arm rest from the Skoda Citito thingy that’s the same car as the Up! And it fits perfectly, helps to give some support. I didn’t want to blow money on new seats, so let her go, great little car and always put a smile on my face, if not by annoying my back - still great though. Oh and the boot is amazing - I’m not sure how VW managed to make it so big for the size of the car, it’s like a Tardis!!

I just did a mod to my standard vw up and i added a gas strut for my bonnet replacing the manual stick you get. it now opens and closes really nice and having it gas strut means it looks nicer and also it easier to use than to put the stick in place visa versa.

I've got a 370Z and reached the age/point where I'm a bit fed up of it drinking all my money away, test drove one of these on a whim and I think I'm sold. £200 a month with 55+ mpg is so tempting. Just for 6-12 months or so!

Nice video, personally I actually like the look of diamond cut wheels or black insert ones, but each have our own tastes. Interesting what you say about the Carista app and I may have to forward that info to a friend who has one of these, as I've not heard about that. These do indeed seem to have quite a bit of low down torque, saw a video where person was driving it 30mph in 5th, 40 in 6th and was very impressed by that. You mentioned the 17k price point quite a bit, and yeah, you get a bit better infotainment and a new car, but you could do 5-6k worth of upgrades to a previous MK7 Fiesta for that cost or practically get into a Golf GTI or Golf R at that point, so it does feel quite pricy to me at least. The steering wheel is nice, and the red plastic interior I guess is a bit better than that on the Polo GTI or Abarth 500s I've seen which is way too over the top on those

Love mine, had it for a little over a year. Question: Did you order yours and specced it yourself? Why so bare bones? I could live without pretty much all of the tech myself tbh, but cruise control is a must. Looks great in TS tho.

I think I just wanted it to be a bit more back to basics. I also know how easy + cheap some parts are to retrofit later. The only thing I cared about was colour and the stereo having some punch :). Didn’t even want climate control!

Commenting when I'm only a minute into the video, but Interesting plate that I like haha NO TO DSG. I swear a dealer near me just sold a 71 plate UP GTI for around 17-18k... now that seems like crazy pricing to me but it's gone from their stock. There's used examples with an 18/68 reg for around 13-14k so

Basically you can buy the Carista Bluetooth dongle for (usually) less than £30. The app can connect to the dongle once it’s plugged into the OBD port.

​@@Stevenrogers274For you maybe. I'd always go for a 5-door, especially because of the looks. Golf Mk2 GTI? Always 5-door, so much nicer! And no issue with getting out in tight parking spaces as with the long doors. Of course my Up! would have 5 doors, too, they make the car look more grown up, more complete. More practical they're anyway.
