OP realized in the update that Sarah isn't that different from Steve. They belong together
@maddiemcnugget1076Күн бұрын
Yeah after thinking about it you realize that Sarah is also attention deficit like Steve. They both crave attention without doing anything to warrant it. Like OP and her wife are going through stuff and also took in the child of a beloved friend who lost her life. They’re parents so ofc they need more attention as well. Idk if Steve is homophobic (sounds like he is, or just bitter and jealous). I don’t think Sarah is but I can be wrong. I just hope Sarah can realize she needs to leave Steve and learn better ways of getting attention

The mom is an enabler, not a "peacemaker", and is as bad as the people she enables, she thinks that trying to maintain peace is not picking a side, but you are 100% picking a side when you don't call out on people's BS. Remember guys, don't call out only the people BS, but enablers too.

I love OP’s comments about the recorder, honestly bring some humor to this not-so-humorous situation (seriously though, recorders are AWFUL). Hopefully Sarah can see how her choices affect her relationship with her family (it’s pretty evident) and makes the decision she finds best for her.

Steve and Sarah definitely bonded over bullying others or Steve gave Sarah that validation to be a complete ass. So like, even if Steve and Sarah break it off, Sarah definitely was on some hater time bc nobody drops slurs like that. I'm sure most of the family would probably take her back outside of OP and a few others but I'm so curious about how that'd go

"be the bigger person" and "be the better doormat" sound suspiciously similar. Every time I hear someone say "be the bigger person" I say fuck that. My mom used to say "just ignore them" and the bigger person one too, and it infuriated me so badly. When she finally saw what I was dealing with, she never said that shit again. This story shows that there are people who don't deserve to be loved, because they are such a prick. That whole damn family couldn't stand the asshole.

"You're ripping the family apart!" No, it's one person being cut out by EVERYONE. That's some amazing unity actually. So many people confuse "taking the high road" with being a massive wimp. You can't be "above" people who are walking all over you. Quiet is not harmony. You need to take stands against things that cause disharmony if that's what you really desire, but they don't, they just want quiet.

Steve wasn’t being “honest”. He was throwing a tantrum because no one wanted to talk to him. The rest of the family need to join together to let Sarah and Stave know that they are in the wrong. I would absolutely encourage people to not only avoid Steve, but also refuse to attend any gathering where he is in attendance.
@ember3579Күн бұрын
He just wants to be a dick to people who he thinks don't have the right to return fire for cheap laughs. When people give him some REAL honesty, he screeches like a manchild. Petty bully behavior that he should've gotten knocked out of him by the time he was old enough to not have munchkin privilege anymore.

The best way to tell if someone's "honesty" is them just being blunt or a bully is to see if they can take what they give. I don't have a filter and will often just say what's on my mind, but I recognize that, so if someone does the same to me, it's fair game and I don't demand apologies. Steve's just a bully because when someone gives him a taste of his own medicine, he gets angry his victims are fighting back.

if Steve was abusive towards Sarag everything would be easier, if he was actually physically and or verbally abusive, she would just be in a toxic relationship and if she got out everything would be better. But no, she is just as bas as Steve if she sided with him for so long and is willing to isolate herself from her own family. It's sad, but sometimes Jerks are just jerks, not monsters, it's easier to want them to be worse so we don't have to feel bad about cutting them out, but no, they are just toxic in slightly less harmful way.

@RiverSongBlackstarr14 сағат бұрын
I really dislike anybody who uses meanness under the guise of honesty. There is a reason why people don't tell the full truth and why there's such a thing as little white lies. You should not be absolutely rude just because you can be in because it gives you attention. All of this tells me that Steve is a narcissist or has narcissistic tendencies. Either way the guy needs therapy. Sarah needs therapy too.

Mom doesn’t know what the high road is. It doesn’t mean to sit there and let abuse slide. It means taking action without turning into the person who wronged you. Steve belittles human grief. OP’s partner called him out on his horrible behaviour and told him the consequence is that he’s unliked by all of them. These are two different things.

There is literally *nothing* that can be done about Steve. He will *never* admit he's in the wrong. If OP gives in and gets her wife to apologise, Steve would take that as validation of his obnoxious behaviour and it would get worse. Also, I question whether he's *really* treating OP's sister well. I suspect he's actually bullying her worse than he bullies everyone else, but she's not recognising it yet. She will - give it time.
