My Bug Out Bag (Get Home Bag)

This is my go-bag, what I grab if there is a fire, civil unrest, or all-out SHTF. Call it whatever: a bug out bag, 72 hour bag, INCH bag, go bag, get home bag, survival kit. It's the first thing I grab if I need to get out of the door and survive on my own for a couple of days. My main situation would be walking or driving home from my university if things got bag, because I am a college student. I got over my med kit / first aid kit / IFAK, water purification supplies, technology, tools, shelter, fire, food, and more!
Of course, this is just what I use, situations, opinions, and available resources vary. If you do something different or think that I should make a change let me know in the comments section!

Not bad. Keep your ifac (blow out/first aid) kit attached to the out side of your bag and put your pepper spray in your kidney strap pouch. Also get a military poncho. It can also be used for a tarp.

Noah...absolutely EXCELLENT!!! I've never seen anyone your age who was so knowledgeable and so well prepared! Would you permit me to give a little advice... you can still carry some chicken with you in the Starkist brand pouches or even Great Value brand. If you put a couple of pouches in your bag, it might be a little lighter and easier to carry, (and they come in a variety of flavors), plus if you had 2-3 pouches, you wouldn't have to open it all at once like you would with your can...although, you made an excellent point about being able to cook or boil water in the can. It's a trade-off for sure. Also did you remember a way to open the can? The little p51 military can openers are great and take up no space. Keep up the great work, young man!! I am so impressed with what you've shown here that I decided to sub to your channel!

Yeah... my main goal in improving the bag right now is better food. I completely agree about replacing the can with pouches, I'm going to grab some next time I am at the store. Thanks! A very nice system . Just a couple thoughts . I don't know if the metal water bottle is a single or double wall container, if it's a double wall you can't boil water in it. On the power aid, I suggest using a water bottle that fits the water filter and have some electrolytes powder. Maybe store the sleeping bag in the garbage bag for water protection.

The water bottle is single-walled for that very reason. Good suggestion with substituting the sports drink for a compatible water bottle!

I second the advice of going with electrolyte powder pouches. Something similar to Liquid IV or a few others you see at your various hiking stores. Less sugar then Gatorade pouches. Let's you carry more and use only when needed. I don't happen to know where you are so I don't know how available water is, but I would suggest a 2nd water container. Whether it's a plastic water bottle or some collapsible container.

Your kit looks really good very well thought out seems like you have a good head on your shoulders for situational awareness the only thing I would add personally would be a military poncho and a little bit of paracord you can use it as a tent just a tarp over your head or do the old Ranger burrito

Fantastic bag! Very similar to mine except I have a tent split between my bag and by husbands becuase we have little kids.

good kit; though suspect you need to re-weigh it... under 10kg for all that seems low. If you go for poncho; i suggest add a long mil type poncho and a head fly net for your "tent" setup; spent many nights under one and sitting up on a log or similar (instead of sleeping lying down) can be in your sleeping bag under it with garbage bag protecting the bottom and with the head net and hood pulled tight with a balaclava; can be bug free; and with spare socks as gloves; rubber bands to hold everything together and some heat packs (one for each boot and chest) and some bug spray can be warm and getting dry.

Hello Noah. Useful items in your "go type " bag to help you or others with you in a jam or time of need. Not overly bulky or heavy to carry. Well thought out overall, and CR does like how certain things /kit/gear is closer to the top. Easier to deploy fast. :) Well this foil could be used to make a lid for that metal water bottle or metal cup with butterfly handles :) You could actually put a dedecated lid in for that reason. I like the flashlight/headlamp. :) Well having headphones allows you to talk with without actually holding the phone too. Just to add: This fire kit, you might be able to add a striker pad under the "sample tube" lid and add some tinder in the tube and wrap some duct tape around it. Those additons to be added later would help too .. take CaRe and all the best from CR.

A couple of ideas you can think about to cut the weight of your bag. You could lose the band on your head lamp. You can use shock cord instead. Also cut the wall charger and replace it with blue olight magnetic charging cables. You could lose the battery storage case ( use a zip lock ) you could also ditch the tube you have the lighter in. You can use a zip tie tied under the lever to keep the lever up so you don't lose fuel. Toss those in your water bottle. You could get you a titanium pot and get rid of the cup it's heavy. You could drop the trama scissors and carry a Victora Knox with scissors.. Get you a titanium shovel head. You can cut a handle for it later but carry a screw for it though. Carry you a couple of lawn bags to make a browse bed and a plastic painters drop sheet. They're cheap and you can build a supershelter with it. Don't forget clean underwear and wool socks and eyedrops. Always carry some vics vapor rub. Good for monkey butt, chaffing and as a lip balm.

I would suggest packing your med kit on top. When you need it you wouldn't want to be digging through items on top of it.

Really great emergency kit. You are the first person to take this virus thing seriously with a high-quality mask. I bought a box of 3M 1860 masks and going to order more today. 600 covid cases/day 3 weeks ago has escalated to almost 10,000 yesterday and this is Montreal Canada. I added an Anti-Karen spray, made by Lysol to my kit because you never know when you could find yourself in an area that is highly infected and you have to take your mask off for some reason so I spray it first

Very nice bag! I’m glad you gave us a tour of your med kit. I noticed that the solar charger took a lot space in the bag. A power bank, at about 10,000 mah, might serve you better in terms of space, weight, and reliability. Also, a simple am/fm radio would be a better way to get news. Save the Baufeng for two way communications.

I like having a more long term solution to power with the solar charger, it fits nicely right in the back of the bag, there is a big pocket where a hydration pouch could go that I slide it in. I have another simpler radio, but it's bigger.

I think a lot of that needs to be based on how long you want your uncivilized support to be for. Personally I keep a 20k battery pack. The reason being that I can recharge just about any electronic equipment I have on me from it. If I heard correctly the weight isn't too bad, my kids school bag with books weighs more. Since were talking electronics, you may want to work towards consolidating cords, battery types, etc. For example, you have an Olight headlamp and a separate AA battery flashlight. I would suggest two Olight style flashlights as they use the same charging cord and batteries. I personally prefer a separate headlamp and handheld. Another example would be usb charging cables. Look into adapters for the different connections instead of cords for each. For electronics I would say you're setup ok. As an example I keep a basic kit with every battery pack I have. It includes 2-4 cords generally Type-a to micro with adapters for lightning and type-c, at least 1 type-c cable as they are higher throughput, an AC and a 12v adapter that supports at least 2 connections. This allows me to charge multiple devices and/or dual charge my power pack when I can from any source available. To supplement that I keep a usb stick light and a type-c dongle to allow me to connect a USB drive to my phone without removing the cover. I try to stay away from devices that require proprietary or non-standard connections though it does happen. The USB chargeable battery for your Boafeng is one. How far you should take this info really depends on the goals or rather timeframe you want your bag to support you for, but you're all set so far.

Trust me learn to how to make your own firestarters and make your own stuff. And take a small length of Paracord and tie 2 bowline knots one on either end so you can fashion a field bow. And look up the 10 C's of survival. Also watch Corporals Corner his videos have saved my life. And Dave Canterbury is another good one to watch

I would double check on those filters for your mask to make sure it protects against CO, tear gas, organic vapor, etc. It looks too small and doesnt look like it has a carbon filter.

Nice, one thing I carry that I never see anyone else talk about is trekking poles. Some duct tape wrapped on one, electrical tape on the other. For traversing rough terrain & water crossings with a loaded pack. Distancing tool mild self defence. Poke an eye out.lol I'm kind of a gram counter, just curious what your bag ways? That tech bag looks HEAVY. That being said, I need to get a couple of those things. You are set up pretty good. Ps. Smart water bottles adapt to a Sawyer.

The bag is about 22.5 lb. I don't use trekking poles for backpacking, so I don't own any. If I did I would probably keep them near this bag. The tech bag is pretty heavy, but I think it is worth it. I could always drop some batteries to shed weight. I like having some extra batteries so so I could give/trade them to someone else if needed.

To your bag I would add birthday trick candles they stay lit even when its windy also dryer lint it catches fire well also a picnic mat for if you have to sit down for a while you dont have to sit on the nasty concrete or a school floor and also baby wipes it is better than toilet paper also gloves and hand sanitizer you want to be careful of germs and also dawn soap. If your pack is based on a day's hike, great job. You made me think about using the tourniquet on the way home, did your day trip turn into days? I suppose the situation assumes medical care is available still during your bug out.

Ideally if something bad happened I would just drive home, but this bag is more for if something unexpected happens and I have to walk home or do something else. My A plan is drive home, my B plan is walk home, this bag has more than I would need to do either of those.

I thought a bug out bag was different from a get home bag and therefore the contents would be somewhat different from each other, not everything but One is just oriented for a couple days to get you home the other is more long-term

In an emergency situation I wouldn't always know when I'm stepping out the door wether or not it was going to become a long term problem. Either way I'd still probably be heading home or to wherever my family was. I tend towards thinking in a priority system like is outlined here: theprepared.com/bug-out-bags/guides/bob-vs-inch/

22.5 lb BOB...its a wear and tear weight...but not for a younge strong guy like you. 3:47 ..🤣👍...hey no problem...I am sure you can get someone to catch you fish , on your bugging out of danger. 5:41 ...I was waiting for you to say "LUKE, I AM NOT YOUR FATHER !!: 6:27...Protest PPE !! Yahhh...FREEDOM !! 13:35.. I give all my kids 200 in small bills....for their emergencys...in case they need to bug out and stay at a motel...untill I pick them up. 16:44...if you got no electronics in your bag that use AAA batteries...you can chalk that up to a Barter item . I like everything you got...What would you do to lighten it up a bit...??

Hopefully it would be a brief car ride home from my school. This is all for "just in case" something goes wrong. The goal is to be ready for as much as possible. Maybe something happens and I have to lay low for a few days or maybe something stops me from going home at all. Maybe a natural disaster wrecks my school and having a way to clean water and stay warm can help people there.
