I don’t think his attitude was defensive. I think it was more that he didn’t see his financial situation through Dave’s eyes. He thought his problem was the interest rate, while Dave is looking at the whole numbers. The caller likely thought it was the high interest rate that was beating him up, not the high note on the other vehicle. For those of us that understand Dave’s plan, his situation is plain and obvious. The caller was not yet understanding what Dave was saying. Many of us have done silly things like the caller. Be patient with him, he’s taken the first step to get his financial life back together.

@@romanticdonkey468 he cut dave off and justified having that over priced ford by stating how low of an interest rate it was at (1.9%) Clearly he didn't want to see how bad that situation really was. Or hear it from dave. Hence, Why bother calling. Great name btw haha

I’m a high school teacher. I teach a course called money matters. I do my best to save these KZbin videos to share to the young people in my class. I’ve been trying to get your course for a couple years, but the district is having problems funding it. I just wanted to thank you for putting these videos on public media, it is AWESOME to see the flash of recognition and learning that crosses these kid’s faces when they see the mistakes their friends and family make. I have so many of them come up to me after I show a clip and tell me, “coach, this is my family, we struggle like this” . You are changing lives dude, keep it up, I know you changed my family’s life. Props.

Dude...I just PAID OFF my car this past June. Was in a shady car loan since 2013. Bought it brand new and refinanced 1 year later bringing my car payment down from $400 to $204 and the interest rate from 16.89% to 1.49%. Instead of paying the new monthly payment of $204, I purposely trippled my payments and paid it off. Lesson learned. My next car will be used but I'm going to hold onto my car and just save what I was paying in a car note for awhile then when I have no choice to get another car I'm paying in cash and bypassing these faulty car loans and interest rates.

We will maintain them and drive them till they drop then buy another used car as a replacement. Cars are not an asset they are a liability with a loan on them. They are not even worth what you paid for it once you take it home. I have a friend that just purchase a $40K truck his loan payment he says is around $800 O.M.G. When I was looking for a truck I look in the $15K to $18K range I wasn't going any higher and after a little shopping I ended up sticking the cars we have and NO NEW LOANS.

There’s people living on $700 in social security a month. Not well but living. Imagine in 4 or 5 years when those vehicles need maintenance. There’s no money left for maintenance so will have to trade them in and take another beating.

I have car fever too. It is bad. At one point I was spending 3600 a month on 4 different car payments. It was literally all my money just to keep them going. I feel you man. I have 4 cars and a bike now and two are financed. It's an addiction. I live in my cars and just use my house to sleep.

I see the poors are at it again. 100k is just not much money in Illinois where taxes are pretty high and cost of living in general is high. This is the same type of person who tells people “yeah I make 6 figures”. The only people who talk like that are making 1xx thousand trying to make it sound like they “made it”. There is a huge gap in understanding of success between wealthy people and 9-5 people.

$130,000 mortgage, $6000 other loans, and $40,000 car loan. Income $100,000. What car is that, better be a model 3 to be worth spending this fraction of your income on it for this year, otherwise get rid of it and pay off the depreciation loan, other loans, and then attack the mortgage and once the mortgage is gone, then you can go for the Tesla Model 3 and get the benefits of not having to pay at the pump. My car rant: Any car over $20,000 must be hybrid. Any car over $30,000 must be electric. This guy have a $40,000 car which is enough to buy Tesla model 3 with some upward options from the very basic at $35,000.

Dave makes matter of fact statements about "five thousand dollar cars" all the time. Does he understand that $5,000 cars often cost more to operate than $20k cars? The complete aversion to debt isn't always the best way, but I guess he's gotta sell his program somehow.

Or you can do what I do. My car payment is $1,200 a month. That's $14,400 yearly. How do I pay for it? I sell Cash Secured Puts and Covered Calls on high volatility stocks. I take those premiums and pay for the car. At the end of the year, I pay taxes on the $14,400 which is $1,344. So my total out of pocket for the car yearly is $1,344. The more you know, the easier life gets.

Hello Ramsey community! So quick backstory here: Had money saved to pay off my car but had my wife and I had a kid. So we decided to use that money to pay off the birth. Baby came and it was paid off. So now we are back to saving again. Only have $4,600 left to go with an 6.98% APR (I was stupid when I bought it okay). Also have a medical bill ($1,500 still to go but paying it with HSA so that helps. There's no interest or anything on it so it keeps going down when I pay it off). Other than that, we have electric, water, trash, and rent. I'm more worried about paying of this car right now. I make about $970 a pay check every 2 weeks. Just want to know what I should do? I have a 2007 Chevy Impala by the way.
