I sold my old Subaru earlier this year (in AZ) and I just got a toll bill in the mail all the way from New York! Turns out the guy I sold it to is still driving around the country with my plate, even though he said he would take it off the day he bought it :/

I don't have a KZbin channel or anything but I am going to be much more careful with any license plate photos after seeing this - I just don't want to empower anybody to steal my identity like this, just too easy. I didn't know people did this, because identity theft, especially if it's an illegal driver/ vehicle, is probably a serious crime? like I'm thinking jail time? not a misdemeanor

I actually went through something similar in Rhode Island with traffic light tickets. Someone stole an old plate of mine and put it on their Toyota The plate was previously registered to a Honda took a bit to convince them it wasn't me getting the tickets

Covering ones lic. plate on social media doesn't prevent some scumbag from copying it when you're driving it in public every day. Unfortunately, it does enable some POS from doing just that!..worst yet is them having access to software that also gives them your address & other personal data that could lead to even bigger hassles than dealing with just the RMV & tolling agencies.

The biggest clue... is that their Saab has AZ plates w/no reg. in IL! Doesn't the state stop, arrest, and impound for this? No, of course not. MA used to be strict and do this, but not anymore. When I moved back from CA, I was shocked at how bad it was here. It sounds like you could get IL state police and RMV involved... also, get it on Chicago and Phoenix TV news.

I’m guessing that beat up Saab has 250K miles on it, the check engine light has been on for ages, they haven’t changed the oil in 10k miles, and no gas gauge. It’s probably very neglected, but it’s still going down the road.

Hi, not unusual in Europe, but not for a SAAB. It is usual when criminals 'double your plate' to commit crimes, or simply to speeding. The point is that in your videos you showed your plate number. This is because you are a good person that shares your knowledge and experience with SAAB. Not everybody is this way, this person is a criminal. I am currently living in Spain. In Spain doing this will imply a 6.000€ ticket. I would immediately file a police report with the evidence you are stating, and any evidence proving you were not there. This would cover you in any investigation in case that SAAB owner commits a crime. The only thing I would not have done is to make this video. It is very likely that he will change the license plate again and then it will be very difficult to catch him. So read this message and delete the video, and go to the police now.

If stealing a tax sticker is a federal crime. Also covering the plate makes sense in Sweden, since showing your plate is literally doxing yourself.

@@AutoAutopsy I’m from Illinois and I had a similar charge with the tollway company. I recall I went to contest the fines in court, when the fines were dismissed I went to pay for them to mention to me I had more missed fines. I don’t think they are very helpful but I hope you get ir resolved.
