I very happy and I'm 71 years young. I have a great life and enjoying every day. Also don't forget to have God in your life, can't do without Him. Much success to. I'm a subscriber to you. Thanks so much for your transparency. I recently graduated with my bachelors. Thankfully, a few weeks after graduation, I received a job offer. The salary was for about 47K, I wanted to make at least 50 starting out. They were unwilling to negotiate. It was a bit discouraging, however, I’m just going to use this opportunity as a steppingstone to reach the bigger goal , and gain some hands-on work experience. The media has convinced people that success can happen overnight, but that is never the case. It takes time. Thank you for reminding me I’m not the only one.

This was dope man, thanks for the transparency here. That's a great story and proud to see how far you come and congratulations on the success you've had and will continue to have going forward. Something you said towards the end of the video made me smile - "you gotta start somewhere and have someone who's willing to believe in you and see the potential that you have and see that you're going to make it somehow". I'm a Clinical Research Coordinator at one of the top comprehensive cancer centers and I finally found that person (my supervisor) who believes in my potential, but more importantly - believes in me and that is such a great and wonderful feeling. I damn sure didn't get it with my last position at Emory, so I'm blessed to say it's a breath of fresh air and change. Still working to get like you in terms of salary haha, but I know it'll come and I can't rush that.

Thanks for sharing Corey 🙏🏽 this is definitely a video myself and others needed to hear. Life is nothing short of abundant with trials in our trajectory that can redirect us differently. What is truly a marker of resilience is how we navigate through them and begin to move into the right direction we want for ourselves. Still finding my way myself. Your video opened a door of opportunity for others to share their experiences/struggles which help lead us into normalizing them and finding our inner strength to press on. Thank you! Excellent video, I’m an older experienced DEI and award winning Early-Career Program leader. I’ve been impacted by the changes in tech and I’m starting over myself. As others have mentioned this video was right on time. I decided to embrace the restart but it’s def hard. I love that you made this video. As a black women i highly recommend hopping around to get the salary and benefits you want. I also always believe in taking a meeting if a recruiter hits you up and always looking on your current job board. Alot of us end up having to leave because we dont have advocacy in upper management. This job i am in now is the first job in almost 20 years that i got a promotion. It was not even started by me, my manager advocated for it. I will now be at 6 figures next month. This company is the first place i have been at more than 2 to 3 years. Everything is great, the moral, benefits, and pay opportunities ❤❤❤

I love that for you. And I agree, your manager can make or break you and it sucks because they have to see the potential in you. They also have to give you opportunities to grow in order to be able to advocate for promo.

@CoreyMJones3

If you’re trying to get into tech recruiting, most tech companies are looking for recruiters with recruiting experience. If you don’t have any recruiting experience I’d suggest starting off with agency recruiting or a recruiting coordinator role. A couple of years doing either of those would make you marketable for recruiting at a tech company

Hey man I’m in a pickle at the moment. I currently play rugby in Japan and the team I play like I get good pay but the thing is I don’t get played much and whenever I get to picked to play my coach just never seems to put me on the field. This year is my last year, the team offered me another two years to resign but thing is do I stay and get good pay but still not play much games or go to another team that might pay more and know I’ll get good playing time. Also where my team is based it can g quite lonely for foreigners but we have a good bunch of foreigners and our training is pretty good. Hard thing is do I stay but still get good pay and not get any game time. Or move to another team know I’ll get good game time but have to restart again with team mates and maybe get a little bit more pay.

It depends on what you value or need most. Do you value the money more or actually playing? If there’s a way for you to make good money and also get on the field, I’d try another team just so you can have both

I am a tax accountant in my country. I've worked for 2 big 4 companies and is a mid level employee and would be promoted if I completed a certification ro be chartered. I am definitely performing and task with assignments higher than my level without the benefits. I am relocating to SC soon and feel like i would have to start from the bottom. It sucks.

Good idea! I don’t anticipate giving any recruiter tips or creating videos just from a recruiter lens. I may continue to add little nuggets in a vlog here and there but not any stand alone videos. At least not at this current moment

Thanks for this Corey. What is your opinion on hopping jobs too early? I just took a job two months ago for 50k and I got an offer this week elsewhere for 80k however I’m worried leaving this early is a red flag to future employers.

At the end of the day, look out for yourself. 80k is a big jump from 50k. I’d hop too! The current employer maybe upset, but if deep down you feel the 80k would put you in a better position financially.. can’t worry about them being upset.

Im happy for where you are now. But as a black man who also worked in corporate, it pisses me off to know how low you had to start even with a degree. Please do a video about how corporate affects us brothers because its a very nuanced discussion that many aren't speaking about.
