In this story he is a complete idiot. He told her straight out if she got with him they was done. She betrayed him by wanting another man to begin with. The she betrayed him by manipulating him to go on the trip knowing what was going to happen and even lieing to him that she wouldn't let anything happen. Then further betrayed him by letting another woman try to intice him so she could sleep with the other guy. I mean why in the hell would he even think of staying with her. OP should have requested an enforceable agreement that his contract for a third book was fulfilled if his wife slept with Gianos and he was free to go to another publisher and divorce his WW, Ellen with all legal expenses and any alimony paid by Gianos to the divorce lawyer of his choosing. Instead OP turned out to be a simp to his wife who was free to cheat per the precedent of this story throughout their marriage. No honor; No respect.

Very good story with a good ending. Nobody is perfect and sometimes you have to learn the hard way. I don't agree with anyone who thinks you end something good when a life lesson was learned without anything terrible happening. By some of the comments I read it appears some people seem to have never made a bad decision. Experience is a hard teacher. It gives you the test first and the lesson afterward. Some lessons don't have to lead to immediate termination.
