this performance isn’t a great example of this but their guitarist frank goes absolutely insane onstage, especially in old performances. like break things and injure people level, it’s so entertaining. he doesn’t go so crazy anymore bc of age and a car accident (he’s still a great performer) but his energy in those old shows is crazy and makes them so fun to watch. he also has some great backing vocals live.

frank is still pretty fun live tho, his solo band shows since then have a really good energy and it’s always fun to see him jump around lol

@TheDorkEvilOne2 жыл бұрын
No, they broke up because they felt they couldn't continue creatively & would rather stop after a great album & stay best friends instead of keeping going & possibly putting out music they weren't proud of or have a falling out bc of the pressure.
@BluMorpho86 Жыл бұрын
@@TheDorkEvilOne stole the words out of my mouth lol, apparently I heard as well that the album which "would" have been after danger days was called Paper Kingdom if they finished the album. (Take that with a grain of salt since I'm not 100 percent on that) It's unfortunate that MCR had broken up since then. I would have love to listen to that concept but at the same time I respect them for not releasing something they aren't proud of releasing ☺️☺️👍🏻👍🏻
@actioncats Жыл бұрын
@@BluMorpho86yep! and gerard said at comic con (i believe, it might have been another convention) that the paper kingdom’s concept was going to be about parents in a support group who had all lost their children in horrible ways, and that was something he didn’t wanna write about (something like that)

This song is about a mama's boy at war. Hence you can hear the siren when he scream mama or artilery barrage at the beginning. If you see the lyrics it's obvious.
@artsmakesmusic79903 жыл бұрын
It's also why the song starts with a "Mexican" style opening. Its actually meant to sound like an old time cabaret!
@pamelavenegas50093 жыл бұрын
You should read the genius on their songs. They go so in depth with the meaning and it’s all in one place. It’s a letter from a solider to his mother who was at war and his mom was judging him for what he’s done at war and this was basically his F U to her. Don’t quote me tho. I haven’t read it in a while 🖤

Well Gerard actually said he didn't want MCR to become that old band that never quits and after years and years people are like "what, My Chemical Romance, I remember them from way back, they're still playing?" Like they would just be desperately trying to continue but no one cares anymore. So he wanted a good ending for the band, even though it was sad
@macm.38894 жыл бұрын
You said why, and you’re right. They “broke up” on good terms, not in the sense that there was drama between them, but in the sense that they were struggling to maintain their own lives. It’s funny that you said “an apocalypse band” because their last album they toured with, Danger Days, was set in 2019, in a post nuclear-apocalyptic California, which is why it’s so iconic they performed their first reunion show in California in 2019. (Fans are often called Killjoys by the way, because they’re the “rebel” characters in the Danger Days comics) But they were founded in 2001, Gerard was on his way to meet with CN execs to pitch a cartoon called Breakfast Monkey, except it was 9/11, which he witnessed. The band helped him process a lot of that, and he said it saved his life in multiple ways, but one of MCR’s core values was to be genuine, they wanted to help kids, and they never wanted to portray anything which they didn’t feel was true to them(hence them rejecting writing a song for Twilight 😂 and later the song Vampire Money, but ANYWAY) it became hard for them to maintain that velocity, after Danger Days, they released a compilation album of demos and old songs, and other things(The Light Behind Your Eyes is gorgeous by the way, so I would HIGHLY recommend it) and they broke up, feeling that that was right for them. I was a really young when that happened and became a fan after so the “history” is interesting, but what’s cool is that they continue to inspire people, and actually, artists like Yungblud, Paleye Royal, and others are heavily inspired by them, if not in genre, definitely in spirit. There’s this really cool interactive article by The NY Times called something like ”Before and After the Black Parade”? If you search “ny times mcr influence” you’ll probably find it that outlines track by track songs and artists which influenced and are influenced by mcr. So they do “carry on” : ) But anyway, some not so fun stuff : / Gerard was beginning to struggle with alcoholism again and Mikey was suicidal, thankfully he eventually got help, and therapy and mood stabilizers are working for Gerard. Mikey and Gerard between then and now continued making music and writing comics (Mikey: Electric Century(Band), aaaand Collapser(Comics) among other things) (Gerard: solo stuff(I’d recommend Brother and his collaboration with Wrongchilde called Falling in Love Will Kill You) and The Umbrella Academy among other things) Ray did solo stuff as well among other things : ) And Frank also stayed in music, having, and I’m still learning so sorry for any mistakes, three bands(Frank Iero and the Celebration, Frank Iero and the Patience and Frank Iero and the Future Violents) unfortunately, in 2016 while unpacking for a gig in Australia, they were hit by a bus, thankfully all of them survived, but Frank still has pain from the accident : ( They’ve done a lot that has made people struggling with their mental health feel comfortable and confident in learning how to cope, and it’s good that they seem in good places mentally now. They wanted to keep the integrity of what the had created and I think they have succeeded : ) I’m sorry for the information overload, I’m enjoying watching videos on your channel! “Fake Your Death” and “The Light Behind Your Eyes” are one’s which have never been performed live(the second of which never fails to make me cry, not in a bad way, the first of which was similar to what you said with “I’d rather burn out than fade away”, if I’m remembering correctly, it was the last new song they released) And actually, “Party Poison” was performed for the first time at the reunion show! It was really interesting because it’s an early version of Na Na Na! (And was named after G’s Danger Days character 😋)
