Gene here, Still got mine (port) two years out from cancer free. Just got the blessing from my doc's to get it out!!! Old Army Aviator here, Cobra's in Vietnam, Apache's in Desert Storm retired in 1995. Nice to met you, Clay. People ask me how to beat cancer, it's easy. Just grab by the ears and kick it in the ass til it quits!

I read the header of your video and it definitely got my attention but to my shock, your “last wish” was to “meet Kelly Clarkson” lmao…yeah you got me! I do hope your health continues to improve, obviously it’s been a journey. My chemo port removal was a happy day as well, I wondered why he told me to lie down, in a split second I knew the answer. No anesthetic, thankfully it was quick. Best wishes to you!

6 years out in my remission and I still haven't had my port removed. Not looking forward to being cut into...again. Maybe someday I'll summon up the courage, but.......I'm great full to be alive, but know that the cure was far worse than the disease...well, for me anyways. Never recovered my strength, never fully recovered my hair, developed neuropathy in my hands and feet and my platelet and red blood count still remains dangerously low. But I am alive. Sir, congratulations on your remission and I pray you continue to grow stronger and live out the remainder of your life healthy and cancer free.

My port was like my safety button in an odd way. I didn't want it removed but it kept clogging up.. Two months later I was diagnosed with a different cancer. Thank God I didn't need chemo because my Oncologist would never live it down.

My wife had her port placed in 2009 for breast cancer, she now gets infusion every month for lupus and they use port, it has never given her any problems or pain, it’s been great for her, we tell new providers it’s been in for 15 years their eyes get wide and they usually say really 😮

That's reassuring to hear..was not sure if I was doing more harm by leaving it in. My daughter in law was diagnosed with lupus...its a disease I would not wish on my worst enemy. Very debilitating, and she's only in her 50's. I wish there was a cure for it. Thank you for the input...I hope your wife is relatively pain free and doing well.

@Betty-ww2wl just be sure and have it cleaned with saline and packed with heparin if you aren’t having it accessed every 3 months to keep from having blood clot where it goes into vein, if it were me I would leave it in, you never know when it might be needed !

I'm not so sure they remove ports like this person explained. I figured it'd be taken out just like it was put in! If you are concerned you can ask for sedation when it comes to getting yours out. Not sure when I will get mine removed.im having immunotherapy through my port...

I said a prayer for your son, as I long ago sent my son off to Basic…I could hardly keep composed, and then I cried like a baby as soon as he couldn’t see me. He is now finishing up headed to retire, 20+ years later…the Army served him well. He’s a husband and father and made me proud. I pray the same for your boy.
